Is the outrage by the left going to be as loud and often over the Smollett charges as the outrage over the hoax. Are we going to see that the outrage only goes one way and when it doesn't fit the media left frenzy they don't cover it or call it out.

I'm glad Smollett is now having to face justice, but where was the outcry with the "hands up, don't shoot" (the Michael Brown) story where an officer has been out of job and never reinstated over a false allegation that he murdered a (black) guy on the street? Where was the outcry over the Treyvon Martin story where a guy was accused of murdering the young man, but turned out that he shot and killed the kid out of self defense and not because he was racist (which he isn't nor was he a murderer, but later on he turned out to be not a good role model)? How come no one on the Left is calling out the media, celebrities, and the elected officials who ratcheted up these fake accusations thes kind of stories? These are the same people who defended Smollett when word of this fake story. These are all defended him. These are all exonerated him. These people were practically singing his praises and condemning Trump supporters.

Then when the REAL story came out, all these same people who supported the Treyvon Martin and the "Hands up, Don't Shoot" (Michael Brown) stories are now coming out and saying "well, I was suspicious of Smollett's story from the start. It didn't make any sense for any attackers to say 'this is MAGA country'. There was just no way that it was adding up." I call bull crap on you people. Sure, you're saying NOW that the story was bogus, but before, you guys were either balling your eyes out or foaming at the mouth, with both anger and excitement. Anger at people who are Non-Leftists but excitement because you felt justified and right when it appeared that Trump supporters attacked a homosexual black guy. Now you're just being lying, plain and simple, about how you were suspicious of Smollett's story from the get-go. I can understand some saying "holy crap, this guy played us. I can't believe I vouched for him." That's acceptable and normal to be mislead by someone who staged a hoax. But you DIDN'T even do that.

So don't play this game of denial because it was clear you guys were convinced that Trump supporters attacked this guy. Some of you were probably hoping it was true because I bet some of you actually want to do REAL harm to people who support Trump (and Trump himself), and this would be one of the main reasons of why you would want to do it. In any case, don't go there and stop trying to convince us otherwise.

The prosecutor is currently giving a count by count of the evidence against Smollett. This dude is toast.

Clearly, he was trying to capitalize on the credentials of victimhood. I think he was dumb enough to believe he could outsmart the police. This was sort of a Munchausten by proxy thing, where he desired the sympathy this attack would earn him.

Just as hate crimes demand special treatment, so does faking one. And, in true irony, all of the victimization he pretended to get for being black and gay will await him in jail.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised by how much the left is attacking him. To them, what's one made up story compared to the millions of "real" racist incidents that occur daily? Jim Crow, back of the bus, all that stuff is as real now as it was then. Smollet is gay and black, surely he's a victim.

It may be that the left understands the complete racial saturation in the media, and that people are on the brink of over-exposure to the constant drone of "whites are racist". A fake story plays into the hands of Trump. Smollet may be black and may be gay - he is the right demographic - but he's hurting the left's political cause. Therefore, he's thrown under the bus.

And Mr. Smollett is receiving due process. But if you listened to the state attorney this afternoon laying out all their evidence down to minor details a thinking mind can't ignore that mountain of evidence that points to Smollett's wrongdoing.

If you listened to the news conference of the Chicago chief of police and his comments, a thinking person can not claim that this appears to be people lining up in one direction politically.

I didn't comment on this when the first reports surfaced, mainly because the victim of a hate crime normally doesn't saunter back to his own home basically without a scratch, then report the "crime" to his manager, who then calls 911.

Every hate crime I've read about results in victims either being dead, or badly beaten and left in a bloody heap on the street. So I wasn't surprised when the evidence started pointing to a hoax; but I was deeply disappointed that a young, black, gay man would harm his own community by a deceitful lie that was apparently based on dissatisfaction with his salary and desire for publicity.

You did a serious disservice to all LGBT/POC in this country, by cooking up a hoax hate crime. Trying so hard to be a victim. You've just made it that much harder for people that are actually affected by hate crimes, to come out with them. I hope they throw the book at him too . . . its a tricky thing because you want to make sure you fully punish this nut without making it hard for real victims of rape, discrimination hate crimes etc to come forward so if theres evidence bury him.

as far as disservice to the community though, thats a tough one. I AGREE It could impact others from coming forward thats for sure, if a person doesnt have good evidence they could now worry it will be harder and thats a very sad thing.

What this wont do though is change anybody sadly. People that respect victims still will, people that assume all things are fake/real still will. People that understand the fact these things do happen still will and people that deny they happen still will.Not saying YOU said otherwise i was just making a general point.

For partisans “innocent until proven guilty” only applies to their side. I used to cringe from the hypocrisy of some here who stated Kavanaugh was innocent until proven guilty but then immediately accused Ford of perjury.

Of course I am of the opinion that innocent until proven guilty only applies to a court of law. We can use whatever standards we want for forming our personal opinions as long as we aren’t on the jury.
