I'm not saying anything definitive. I'm only entertaining the possibility that perhaps he is telling the truth. He is probably guilty in the court of public opinion, but in the court of law, I'll reserve my judgement until he is convicted.

I still believe that. But I didn't blindly blame the president or his supporters for this incident either.

Remember, I was one of the first people on this forum to say Jussie Smollett made up this story.

I do not blindly follow the media or automatically follow the herd. I called Jussie a liar before calling Jussie a liar was in the mainstream news.

This is such hypocrisy.

MOST people reacted the same, went into their tribe and repeated the tribe position. That is exactly what is happening now to the changing circumstance. (this is where you take a bow)

The real question is, which Trumpets thought it was OK for 2 Trump supporters to attack a black gay and which folks from the left now think that what this stooge allegedly did was understandable, excusable.

All other comments is just a way to claim the "other tribe is bad." Like you just did.

There are perhaps some pieces in what he is saying is true. I originally did think someone wrote him a threatening letter although that is in question now.

At this point, if he is lying, there is no advantage for him to be silent or continue to lie. I suspect he is going to play the mentally ill card

I've heard of Empire, but I've never really watched it. I think I've seen Jussie before, I just didn't know his name. I really only know Tiraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard from the show.

My husband watches Empire and Jussie is really good. I would day he has a good fan base, and seems coragerous to many LGTB. His character is gay on the show, and it deals with it very personally.

I don't know why he would do something like this. It jeopardizes so much for him, and what did he think he would gain?

It makes no sense.

I think he had a dual objective: publicity and political statement. It was only a week or so before the hoax was launched that Smollett tweeted his anti-Trump "bitch ass nigga" rant.

It's not likely that it will stick. He will probably just plead out or present a case of "no contest."

Good. I hope he gets the book thrown at him. I was pretty skeptical of his story to begin with, as it was pretty fantastical from the start. And I was right to be. This guy is a total piece of ****. You did a serious disservice to all LGBT/POC in this country, by cooking up a hoax hate crime. Trying so hard to be a victim. You've just made it that much harder for people that are actually affected by hate crimes, to come out with them. Hopefully this will stand as a caution for anyone who takes these stories at face-value.

We don't really punish rich people all that hard in America, so I wouldn't expect that we'd "throw the book at him". Still he should face repercussions and be held responsible for his actions here. I'm not 100% sure how he expected this to fly, to not be discovered, but I don't know if he even thought that far ahead, lol.

He will have more than one. In addition to his being indicted by a grand jury yesterday, Postal Inspectors have been working behind the scenes since Smollett received the threatening letter. If he wrote it, there will be other felony charges.
