Alabama mother begs to return to US, says moving to Syria and marrying ISIS fighters was 'a big mistake'

With U.S.-backed forces closing in on ISIS in Syria, young mother Hoda Muthana is pleading for a second chance and the opportunity to return home to her family in Alabama.

"I realized I've made a big mistake and I know I've ruined my future and my son's future and I deeply, deeply regret it," she said in an interview with The Guardian newspaper.

Muthana is one of 1,500 foreign women and children living in a Kurdish-run refugee camp in northern Syria.

Muthana's family lawyer, Hassan Shibly, told ABC News the young mother was "brainwashed" by ISIS and now feels "tremendous remorse."

COMMENT:-

Somehow I have a lot of difficulty in working up a HUGE amount of sympathy for someone whose position is essentially "Now that there is next to ZERO chance that the people I backed will get away with what I wanted them to get away with, I am really sorry that I backed them and don't want to face the consequences of my own actions.".

Was she stupid - yes. Was she young - yes. Was she naive - yes. Did she voluntarily support terrorists - yes. Should she face the full weight of the law for the acts that she voluntarily committed - your call.

Is she still an American?

If not, case closed.

If she is, what are they laws she broke? Prosecute and that's that.

In other shocking news... placing your hand in a blender tends to not work out very well either.

Don’t have much sympathy for her, but I do for the child.

Regardless of the utter stupidity of what she did, she should be allowed back, if she broke any laws should face the music for it and I agree with noonereal, that should be that.

I don’t see why terrorists should be treated any different than any other criminal, surely that’s not an outlandish thought.

Just make sure she is with the ISIS fighters and drop some laser guided bombs on her....

Uh, no.

She made her bed, now she has to lay in it.

I'm sorry the child was forced into it, but they come as a package, and she's too dangerous.

Hate to be cold but if she was not in a refugee camp would she be pleading she made a mistake?

It reminds me of criminals who once in prison are so remorseful for their crimes and "Bingo" they found Jesus.

She made her bed, she can lay on it. There are consequences for actions. Unfortunately, both the UK and America will most likely allow terrorists to return to the good life they despised.

What exactly is the difference between living in an ISIS dominated Syria and living in Alabama? At least in the former, nearly half the electorate won't try to elect a child molester.

Funny how they only get homesick after the US/Kurds kill their jihadi ISIS husbands and they're now in internment camps.

Sure...bring her back to the US;

18 U.S. Code § 2381 – Treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

I think we can accommodate her.

As a resident of Alabama, I invite you to visit the former.....let me know how that works out for you.

Hmmm...perhaps YOU should go hang out with ISIS folk for a while. Let us know how that goes.

Well, he will not be returning if he is gay....or liberal, or conservative, or American, or a westerner, or christian, or jewish, or atheist, or listens to rock music, or likes to smoke or drink or Yazidi, or a free thinker, or a journalist, or a police officer, or will not pray 5 times a day, etc.....I could go on, but I am not sure what the character limit is for this text box.

Thumbs UP for the OP!

Thumbs down for the Woman!

Conscious choices have real world consequences.

No coming back to America.

That is my call!

You jumped out of our boat. You don't get to get back in without us having a say so.

**** her, let her rot in her third world hell hole.

Traitor.

I think you need to do some research on the ME, revolving around child molestation and murdering them for their organs.

Interesting.

Trump repeatedly gets into the boat with Putin, leader of America's long time enemy, and nobody says this. Any idea why?

Just allow the ISIS mother to slither back to the US in the dead of night and the child will become part of DACA. Mom will be here, too. That's immigration enforcement for ya in the US.

Yes, the US should never talk to its enemies....Go with that....

Yes, the US should never talk to its enemies....Go with that....

And the US should always provoke wars with our (at least, dems') enemies.

Two things:

1. There's how I feel about this case and the one in Britain which is one of little sympathy of people who knowingly went to join a terrorist organization like ISIS. Their barbarism toward westerners and other Muslims was pretty well known, so now that their dreams of a caliphate are done, I have a hard time supporting the idea these folks should be allowed back.

2. The rational approach is to follow the letter of the law as it relates to dealing with people in these particular circumstances. If they did not violate the law then the security risk they present should be assessed; and if they did break the law then they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Britain has already stripped the citizenship of the woman seeking to come back, and though it will be challenged in court, I suspect the appeal will fail.
