White House hints Trump will veto Congressional disapproval of emergency declaration

A top adviser to President Donald Trump indicated Sunday that Trump is prepared to issue the first veto of his term if Congress votes to disapprove of his declaration of a national emergency along the U.S.-Mexico border.

White House senior adviser Stephen Miller told “Fox News Sunday” that “the president is going to protect his national emergency declaration.” Asked if that meant Trump was ready to veto, Miller added, “He’s going to protect his national emergency declaration, guaranteed.”

Trump declared the emergency Friday in an effort to go around Congress to fund his border wall. It would allow him to move federal dollars earmarked for military construction to the border — but is already facing legal and political challenges.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said his state would sue “imminently” to block the order, after the American Civil Liberties Union and the nonprofit watchdog group Public Citizen announced Friday they were taking legal action.

COMMENT:-

Another, "Let's watch this one and see what develops."?

On the other hand, the situation that would develop IF Mr. Trump DID veto the Legislative Branch action AND the Legislative Branch voted something like

  • 75% to override the veto in the House, and
  • 66% to override the veto in the Senate

would be even more "interesting" - wouldn't it. (A 66 to 33 vote to override [one Senator voting "Present"] would be even more "fun".)

since it isn't even going to make it out of the senate this isn't an issue.
if it does make it out of the senate i doubt they will have enough to override a veto in the senate.

DP abounds with speculation.

As I said "Let's watch this one and see what develops.".

Mitch should be ashamed rolling over for the Executive Branch. The GOP Senate should pay for this next year. Twenty GOP Senators up for reelection, drain the swamp.
