I was right to be skeptical. I had a feeling it was fake, because it was a bit too ridiculous for me to take at face-value. I'm honestly pretty pissed at him. He did a disservice to me and every other gay and LGBT person out there. I hope the book gets thrown at him; I've got no sympathy for him. He can rot.

I don't get it. One of the excuses is "it starts a conversation", that's bull. It's just deception and causing futher needless divide in our country.
 
So will Smollett be charged with a crime and prosecuted? Will the media and hollywood liberals who jumped on this as a race and hate issue now apologize and admit their bias?

Yes he did.

I can't imagine walking in your shoes and what you have to go thru day to day without people like this marginalizing or giving doubt to the real issues you might face.


And for what, cheap political points? To possibly gain a little sympathy for a better role?


It hasn't escaped me how this story might affect real people and victims who now have to deal with the ramifications. All politics aside, my heart goes out to them. They have a tough enough time without having to worry about their credibility being questioned if they are victims of real hate crimes.

Supposedly a grand jury is ready to hear the case.

I saw Alyssa Milano tweet out how upset she was that someone would make this up.

I've got no clue as to why he did this. I really don't understand. Is it attention seeking? Is it something more? I don't know, but what I do know is that whatever his reasoning behind this was, it was wrong regardless. This does, as you say, throw unnecessary doubt onto those who have been affected by hate crimes and such. Which is why I'm not hesitating to condemn Smollett for doing such a ****ty thing.

I read that it was Jessie that lead the police right to the Nigerian brothers. Jessie gave the police a redacted call log from his cell phone. Police compared it to the complete log obtained by subpoena went straight to the deleted numbers on the log provided by Jessie and there were the brothers cell # called the night of the attack.

why? because the media is supposed to do their due diligence in maintaining the facts.

not anymore the media is nothing but sound bite whores who jump all over something before all the facts are out there.
then they wonder why people don't believe a word that comes out of their mouths.

they have been reduced back to yellow journalism and they have little regard for facts before issuing one of their BREAKING NEWS STORIES.

The liberal news outlets will let this die as quick as they can. It's a shame that they do not report news anymore just promote scandals that have little or no facts to support them. The left will ruin the country if left to continue their assault on America.

I think there is a problem here, though. These kind of stories are hot right now, because there's a big political debacle in this country. And the media knows that this stuff is what brings in the views. So they focus on it, and put a huge spotlight on it. Doing that futher widens the divide in this country, and I think the media needs to responsible for how exactly they handle that power. Taking him at his word was the wrong move, just like the Covington Catholic situation.

One of these times - eventually - one of these claimed racist or religious attacks actually might be true.

2nd string and has-been actors are always desperate for any attention. So, what is happening to the "star" who did this?

And then there is the real world where 2017 saw a 5% increase in reported hate crimes motivated by bias on the basis of sexual orientation. A small increase probably attributable to the increase in reporting of fake hate crimes.

I generally don't comment on these things, and definitely not until about 2 or 3 days after the initial news. However, this one smelled really bad from the get-go.

That guy is an idiot. I hope his career takes a big hit from this stupid stunt. WTF was he thinking???

He also apparently sent a terroristic threat letter to the set of Empire. So that could carry additional significant penalties.

That is not what got me on this story.

He said he had just landed in Chicago from New York and he was attacked because he was gay early in the morning on an extremely cold morning.

How would the attackers know he was gay unless they knew him? With as covered up as you have to be to survive in that kind of cold, how did they even know he was black?
