"White House seeks to clarify Trump remarks on emergency"

"White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday sought to clarify President Trump’s statement that he “didn’t have to” declare a national emergency at the border, but did so to speed up construction of his long-promised wall."

“I could do the wall over a long period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster,” Trump conceded."

White House seeks to clarify Trump remarks on emergency | TheHill

Appears Trump blew it in his own proclamation, "didn't have to" and "didn't need to do this" are going to be the central theme of every lawsuit stemming from his "emergency." Tough to defend something as an "emergency" when you preface it with "didn't have to" and "didn't need to do this." Even beer belly Brett is going to struggle rationalizing that one

Trump's advisers much live in fear every time he drifts away from the teleprompter

Congress is getting progressively worse. How ironic that Trump seems now to be the main politician taking the scornful heat for being willing to take on the damnable socialist atheist treasonous agenda of the leftist democrats.

lol... you're a hoot.

I've said many times that the man-child is his own worst enemy. What a complete moron. Can't wait for the court battles that will take years to resolve.

After Trumps massive slip, these court battles will take days not years...

Oh come on, it was a Pandora's box the minute Congress willingly gave up it's power in 1976....

Here's the list of National Emergencies, still in force today, by President that instituted them...How many of these can you really say were done, not geo politically, but in the national interest....?

Here'''s a list of the 31 national emergencies that have been in effect for years - ABC News

Only one has ever been used to bypass the constitutional authority of congress.

maybe not. SCOTUS ruled on the "4 squares" ( actual paper) for the travel ban.
Granted they threw out what was campaign rhetoric before he was executive

Uh, yeah...no. Sorry, but the President's words matter. His words mattered when he owned the shutdown and they'll matter when they're used in court.

Trump does put his foot in it lots. Though him declaring he did not have to do this, is right up there with "I fired Comey over this Russia thing" and "I would be proud to shut the government down".

You just know his staff are holding there assholes every time they let him loose on a microphone.

Lets face it, the GOP have very low leadership standards by continuing to support this clown.

They've got their work cut out for them.

Judiciary Committee Democrats are opening an investigation into Trump's declaration of national emergency. They're calling on WH counsel and DOJ officials to testify on the Hill.

As per Greg Sergeant: "Today, Trump justified his national emergency with multiple lies. He then claimed he gets his numbers from "Homeland Security primarily." Guess who's testifying on Capitol Hill on March 6th? Kirstjen Nielsen. That give Dems a big opening."

Greg Sargent on Twitter: "Today, Trump justified his national emergency with multiple lies.

Kirstjen Nielsen.

New piece: https://t.co/JNVYrP0Kjg"
The numbers are worse then most know. .
52k arrested in Nov and Dec last month each for illegal crossing (mostly asylum claims)
So actual DHS numbers before Congress will reinforce it IS an emergency, with 600k projected this year

Yeah...for example, it's hard to justify taking private land by eminent domain when you admit you 'dont need to do this.'

Oh there will be an emergency when those Texas land owners take to their guns to stop the government from taking their land for the wall.

I could do the wall over a long period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster,” Trump conceded."
meaning: i'd get the wall built either way with or without an emergency "but i'd rather do it much faster"
( because there IS an existing emergency )

Man, you just gotta roll your eyes at some of the ridiculous statements in here

Tres - "That lying bitch sold her soul to the devil when she took that job...."

Helix (staff member) - "he's such a dolt." (way to show leadership there buddy...

year2late - "He should only get one scoop tonight." (chuckle worthy)

3 within the first 10 postings...None of them about the subject matter. Nothing even near "civil discourse". Just plain childish rage...Some people need professional help.
Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).. but Debate Politics Style - ( not the usual cesspool message board filth)

Yeah...for example, it's hard to justify taking private land by eminent domain when you admit you 'dont need to do this.'

another fabulous point

how does the government force a landowner to relinquish his land under an imminent domain action if such taking of property is actually not needed

Trump just made it much, much broader. This is a Pandora's Box that is unlikely to end with Trump.
agree a bad thng ,but Congress can barely even pass spending bills anymore -much less immigration reform..
so I figure the Constitution will bounce back whenever Congress decides to engage itself again...meanwhile the void of any action gets filled.

I love the guy. a greatly improved NAFTA 2 / China trade talks that won't solve everything; but should at least end forced joint ventures and direct IP theft from it
and the freaking economy is on fire while China/world is cooling. and now actually trying to secure the border.

I liked his attempt to work past the Russiaphobes who have "beefed up "NATO -but that's another discussion.
I got no complaints except his big mouth

I understand what you are saying Clara, however, your premise is wrong...Trump is not abridging anyone's Constitutional rights by declaring the building of a border barrier as a National Emergency at a time where families and children are in danger trying to get in this country illegally. In fact, he is protecting the nation...

Maybe you missed Trump's own words from the OP's article ---
President Trump’s statement that he “didn’t have to” declare a national emergency at the border, but did so to speed up construction of his long-promised wall.

Context matters: If you listen to the clip, he is answering a question about doing it for the 2020 election.

Context matters.

Leftists strike again.

Congress did act. They resolved this disaster on Thursday. Then Trump's brainless ass made it 1000% worse on Friday.

The big national emergency this country faces is that domestic enemies of the US Constitution and outright idiots occupy the federal government, and have for quite a few years.

In other words, our President and the GOP congressmen that have abandoned their responsibilities to let him get away with it.
