Fact-checking Trump's speech declaring a national emergency

Are you blind or something? You posted an article which claims to be fact checking his speech and posts their written analysis for each part to which you even pass it off with your own comments that what they came up with is fact. The two graphs just disproved what they said. If they are a fact checker, what they said would have matched.

Yes, they should state where they got their estimate from. But Trump was still incorrect on that specific line, and many of his other claims were demonstrably false.

Speaking of no filter...it is my understanding that he imitated Chinese President Xi in his best “chinaman” accent...stay classy Donnie!

Hmmm ... the clip I heard wasn't bad. He made his version of Xi's English slightly stilted. But it wasn't pronounced. Far from the worst thing in his laundry list of assaults on decency and on the Constitution.

Two graphs below disprove the parts of the fact checking in bold. And yes they are compiled from reliable sources. Nice try though.

It is scary. Government spending must be reduced.

Funny stuff... just so over the top you don't want any insults when in reality that is what 90% of the anti-Trump threads are about. Insult after insult.
Attacking and insulting the president and anyone who voted or supports the administration.

We all know that the MSM is highly partisan and biased against President Trump. Many do not trust the media and for good reason.
Biased fact checking.... who cares!

So are you fact checking the Constitution too?

Article I, section 7 - All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.

Article I, section 9 - No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law.

What Trump is attempting is illegal.

True!

But I have searched the Constitution, the Founding Fathers did not set any limits to how many articles of impeachment the House might hand over to the Senate for the trial of the president, if they would decide to have a trial.

So we could have both of those!

Wouldn’t you rather have an impeachment vote that removes him from office? Otherwise, he will use the spectacle to enrage his base. Plus he loves attention—good or bad doesn’t matter to him.

Actually, this one will be shot down at SCOTUS. Only congress controls the purse strings. Don't take my word for it. It's in the constitution.

He admitted that he "didn't need to do this."

That was probably the "closest" one to not being an absolute farce. I'll agree with that much.

You really are seriously blind or maybe you just chose not to even look at the graphs and pass it off as nonsense cause it didn't conform to your argument. But had you looked, the sources for the estimates are listed there at the edges of the graphs.

And regardless if he misspoke, you still tried to parade an article as a legit fact checker.
Who believes this trash? Why not put facts over feelings?

(P.S. If you disagree with these fact checks, please provide citation disproving them directly rather than insults. Thank you)

And now disproven. You failed.

Thank god for that. And another loss of face for Trump.

1.) You didn't disprove it. Trump didn't start much of the wall. Trump lied about El Paso. Trump lied about the drugs. In fact, you didn't even disprove the bold portions you think that you did:

2.) "As a share of gross domestic product, it is far smaller, especially compared to the enormous spike during World War II."

You second graph showed this to be true.

" that's an addition of about $8.3 trillion, which is less than the debt outstanding when President Barack Obama took office,"

Your first graph showed this to be true.

So it's biased media and biased fact-checking, and perhaps biased facts, as well. People have used Trump's own agencies to gather the facts to debunk his statements. Of course the agencies are biased. Where do you get your alternative facts, from the Queen of Hearts?

I don’t think so. Congress gave the office of the president this power with legislation back in 1976. There was good reason for it. Trump is abusing that power with a Trumped up emergency. This sets a bad precedent. Future (Democrat) presidents could declare emergencies Willy-Nilly for their own purposes.

Just like Trump has here!

Trump is bad precedent.

Sorry, but Donald Trump lives in a fact-free zone. He does not take the opinion of experts, but has said himself he relies on his gut. Now, I sure we can agree that his gut is quite large, but it isn't the source of either wisdom nor understanding.

You can have your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts. When you start dismissing the pillars of our media as "fake news" you are telling the world that you want your own facts. That is a world governed by cult leaders.

Say as you wish about Washington Post, New York Times, Reuters, the AP.... they may have some editorial bias, but they have impeccable records for factual integrity.

Not to mention that the first graph provided confirmed that Trump lied when he said Obama added more to the debt than all other presidents combined.

If that is that poster’s attempt at “correcting the record”, he is failing miserably.

Correct.

I just reviewed both of his graphs. They actually prove the bold correct. I like this guy, he double checked my OP.

Thank god for that. And another loss of face for Trump.

He is only interested in not losing his base. If he can blame the "liberal judges" for denying him the right to use emergency powers to build the wall, it is good enough for him.

I have a feeling that tomorrow Trump or Kellyanne will claim that he misspoke...

It won't be Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She is in an all day meeting with Mueller today.

Impeachment votes in the House don't remove Presidents from office, even if all 435 House members voted to adopt the articles of impeachment.

Conviction at trial, on the articles of impeachment, aka the "high crimes and misdemeanors" in the Senate is what would remove him, we think, but don't know for certain, since no president has ever been convicted in the Senate on the articles of impeachment adopted by the House.

Before Obama the, costs for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan came from "emergency" funds and "overseas contingency" funds which bypassed the Congress' own budget caps and were not added to the deficit. During his time in office The cost includes health care, disability and other veterans benefits and also the cost of borrowing the funds to pay for the wars. The cost had been estimated at $5.1 trill.

No you didn't bother to even look is what I suspect...

First graph - Obama's debt was not 8.3 but much higher. You can go cross check that anywhere else you like too.

Second graph - Obama's debt as a share of GDP is not "far smaller" than compared to the numbers during WW2.

Again YOU tried to pass off an article as a legit fact checker. That is what I have called into question.

Funny watching all you progressive types suddenly concerned about our national debt.. Um, yeah, ok, sure you are..
