McConnell says Trump will sign funding bill, declare a national emergency

After seeing the "deal" that was reached, of course I was. It was not what Trump wanted. That was obvious and many of you crowed at that fact and are still crowing about it. And he DID warn everyone that he would declare a national emergency if the border was not secured to his satisfaction. And that "deal" has nothing in it that will actually do what he wanted (quite the opposite really). And I'll bet that due to how things happened the courts are going to side with Trump on this one. Why? Because Trump is going to use this new "deal" as an example of why Congress is not fixing the problem by giving him the money required to fully enforce current law.

Ummmmm, Trump isn't starting up a new thing with this... This is based on the National Emergencies Act, passed in 1976... Every single president since Jimmy Carter has declared at least one national emergency during their tenure... Obama declared 13 of them during his...

The delusions of the Trumpeteer. And they'll make some excuse if he does declare emergency to side-step Congress to get his funding. They'll all bend over and lick boot and make excuses. But then when a Democrat gets in and does something similar, they'll raise hell once again. The hyperpartisan political trolls only care when the other side does it.

The Executive Branch has hundreds of billions of dollars. Over 32 Billion is easily access and can be used for border security...including to build a wall.

Actually securing our border is the federal governments #1 job. Which is how many see this. You could say that this is an over reach of the President, but it is false to say that this is a federal over reach.

It is a shame that it comes down to this. The number of people entering our country illegally, circumventing our immigration laws, and our visa laws is 10 million. A few thousand is too many but 10 million is a crisis.

President's have Emergency Authority. He may very well have the (narrow) legal right to do this. It's simply not "right" for him to do so

It will be interesting to see how he justifies it. I would guess that the justification will fall under 10 USC 284 (b)7 ... but I don't think he even needs a declaration of national emergency to enact that power of the executive office.

Trump likely has to sign the bill but its a shame that he should. The bill is a joke. The democrats promising to negociate and compromise in good faith and then adds so many restrictions on areas where a wall can be built and what the money in the bill can be used for that the bill has no teeth in terms of what the President wanted. He was treated poorly by the democrats and frankly the republicans again came up short of having any guts to play hard ball with the democrats. I'm tired of weak and spineless Republicans and I can't vote for a democrat because they are so left as a party and have too many leftist positions for my liking.

Things will get interesting now. Ted Cruz was talking about using the El Chapo's seized properties as a way of funding the wall; I think that was in the neighborhood of $14 billion dollars. Where it will get more interesting though is how the continued maintenance and staffing gets funded.
