Amazon cancels plans to build New York headquarters

Oh, there's plenty of stupid to go around on this one. They all get a whopping share. But, I bet if you ask anyone in the area who it was that caused Amazon to pull out, A-oc will be your number one answer.

I see, so if you ask liberals if Trump is a rapist and they answer yes, then it's true. Got it.

Ocasio-Cortez “Green New Deal” sets a goal of shifting the nation to 100 percent “clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources, within 10 years.” Her office released a document that said that “The Green New Deal will not include investing in new nuclear power plants and will transition away from nuclear to renewable power sources only.”

One hundred percent renewable power sources only within 10 years is a pie in the sky technological fantasy.

From 1970 to 1990, France and Sweden built nuclear plants that replace coal and oil burning ones to produce clean electricity. Germany will spent over $580 billion by 2025 on renewable, while shutting down its nuclear plants. Germany big shift to renewable has resulted so far in 50% increase in electricity prices and no reduction of emissions (Bloomberg - Are you a robot?).

Germany government made the decision of shutting down nuclear power plants and burn more coal. Germany CO2 emissions are 10 higher than France.

France obtain about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy and is the world larger exporter of electricity due to the low cost of nuclear power generation. In December 2017 the French President stated that nuclear is “the most carbon-free way to produce electricity with renewables.” A new nuclear plant will start operation in May 2019 (Nuclear Power in France | French Nuclear Energy - World Nuclear Association). Ship filled with fools.

St. Cloud is still ranked #1, I believe?

I checked again during my Executive Time on either Friday or Thursday and Three of the top four teams ranked nationally were from Minnesota. Not the U of M, though...

I grew up in Duluth MN and UMD was number three before the loss to North Dakota last night. Maybe they're hanging back to make things interesting. ;)

I suppose I assumed that there were Baby Boomers retiring everywhere- even outside of the defined area.

They are and the NY area has more people and therefore has more retirees. They are more than welcome here in purple Florida. We hare having 80 degree weather here now.

In Indianapolis, we have high winds and temperatures around 40 F.

You can color me envious.

The percent loss floats on the numbers, but the percent is the percent. People are flocking away from the high tax areas and are infecting the places they flee to with the things that caused them to flee.

This seems like an interesting dementia. I wonder if they will also institute the colder New York weather in Florida as they employ the climate control abilities of the Liberal Elites...

Ski Florida!

Ocasio-Cortez said that: “No matter how you feel about the wall, I think it’s a moral abomination…. I think it’s like the Berlin Wall. I think it’s like any other wall designed to separate human beings and block out people who are running away from the humanitarian disasters. I just think it’s wrong.”

The Socialist regime of East Germany built The Berlin wall to stop East Germans from escaping into freedom in West Germany, to keep them in captivity. Many East Germans were killed trying to escape by armed guards garrisoned at the wall. The U.S. Wall at the south border intention is to block the flow of illegal immigrants, smugglers and terrorists, in order to protect U.S. citizens.

Most of the 654 mile of wall existing on the south border until 2017 were built under the Obama administration, as part of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. Then the construction of the wall by the Democrat party, she “think it’s a moral abomination.” I wonder if she think that fences and walls around schools are “wrong” too.

Wall being built under Trump

All Communist countries had armed guards along the border and in some places they built walls to prevent their people to escape to the free world. I think too that those walls built by “socialist” regimes are “a moral abomination designed to separate human beings and to block in people who are running away from the humanitarian disasters.”

Sweden has three operational nuclear power plants, which produce about 40% of the country's electricity. More electricity is produced per capita by nuclear reactors in Sweden that any other country in the world.

The Sweden Democrats and Liberal Party are in favor of expanding Sweden’s nuclear power to combat climate change. The Conservative Party and Christians Democrats are in favor of keeping nuclear power and the Social Democrats want to phase it out. If nuclear power plants era faced out Sweden would be heavily dependent on fossil fuels. In 2016 the Sweden government decided to build up to 10 new reactors in the coming years to replace old reactors which will been phased out.

So far the results have been mixed, too many residences are being lost in the transition and we still rely way too heavily on SRO's, 'single room occupancy" another time called "flophouses".

Sorry but I loved my SRO flophouse back in Minneapolis in the 1970's.
It was a hundred square feet, maybe 120 tops, had a tiny bathroom with a tub/shower, a kitchenette built into one wall with a two burner stove/mini-fridge/sink combo and a tiny closet and enough room for a larger version of a twin bed, but it was all mine for $110 a month and on a 400 dollar a month part time dishwasher wage I could swing the rent, put gas in my jalopy, pay the ten bucks a month electric and eat.
And all while going to school in the mornings.

ApartmentEastLake1978.jpg

I spent eighteen months there and once I was done with school, I was suddenly making about seven fifty a month and I'd moved into an apartment in a lovely old Victorian house near the old Pillsbury mansion for $250 a month.
That was an actual one bedroom apartment, with mahogany built ins, brass fixtures, casement windows and wainscoting....GORGEOUS.

WABC TV in New York is currently doing a simple poll.

Are you glad Amazon pulled out of the NY deal.

82% to 18% the folks here in NY are voting NO. They are no happy the deal fell through.

Who are these morons who did not want Amazon?

Does anyone know? Specifically?

The Mayor and Governor wanted it and worked hard to get them. Who was it?

It was this guy.

Interesting. I once knew a Jewish friend who lived in Greenwich in a rent controlled apartment for about $1K a month. This was ten years ago and I havent been in touch with him since. Do you know if the rent control stuff is still around?

Highly doubtful. It went extinct in LA County back in the 1990's.

I make no point about who was most important in stopping the deal. I don't think that's significant or politically interesting. What is important, IMHO, is AOC's visibility (and her encouragement of that) on this issue. She has made herself a future star in Republican ads about job killing. I suspect those ads will feature her and unemployed or under-employed New Yorkers.

Now you're even stooping to making excuses for your revisionist lies.
Brilliant.
You guys are like The Walking Dead, you just keep reproducing.

That's bananas. Paying that for 1 room? That's my house payment.

2400 sq ft 4 BR 3 BA house in Whittier, $2600/mo mortgage.
Twenty minutes from downtown Los Angeles, which of course is meaningless because downtown LA is not a hub the way NYC is out East. But it gives you an idea where we are.

No judgment, just discussing politics in a political discussion forum. Like I said, her real enemies are fact checkers.

That's actually damn impressive! I see what you're saying, with SCS, Duluth and MN State being in the top 4. This is a great year for Minnesota college hockey.

Very true!

It's about the same as last year. The Great White North (white refers to snow) produces a bunch of things that the Lush Green South does not.

During my college years, running out of ice was never a worry. :)

Of course, the vice versa is also true. That's one of the great things about our country. We can roam about to find those things that please us.

I was born in Minnesota and will probably die in the Florida area- hopefully not due to a hurricane inflicted injury.
