I think you missed the point. I suggest that higher wages, say brought about by government action such as raising the min wage, or by government inaction, letting unions organize and bargain freely, would make jobs more attractive to citizens and legal residents, thus unavailable or less available to illegals. You had my idea backwards. But the conservative forces that exploit Americans’ fears of illegals are not about to help labor, organized or not. What a surprise!

There are illegals living all over the United States, anywhere that someone is willing to hire them.
Illegals are not eligible for most welfare payments.
Democrats don't want to end illegal immigration. Republicans don't want to end illegal immigration. If either party really wanted to end it, they would have done so when they were in power. Nothing substantial has been done about the problem for decades and through both party's administrations and Congressional majorities. Now, the Republicans, or at least the Trumpists, are ranting about a silly wall that isn't going to do anything to end the problem, and at the same time claiming that Democrats are all for "open borders."
