‘My whole town practically lived there’: From Costa Rica to New Jersey, a pipeline of illegal worker

Trump was just using features of capitalism. The wage that employers would most likely hire an employee. If the American worker wasn't part of a union and wages weren't $51 dollars an hour, Trump would be hiring the non-union American.

Besides, with the bennies the American gov't gives to workers these days like free health care, free housing, free education for their children and Social Security benefits for when they retire (illegal or no), a worker can survive on the lower wage.

You've gotta admit the bennies the American gov't gives to workers provides the incentive for illegals to come to America and work in America in the first place.
Mebe we need to put a 'bra' on America so all those illegals won't flock to America.
Trump was exploiting workers who had little legal recourse because of their immigration status. There is no way any businessperson could possibly think they were hiring legal workers for $8 an hour when the industry standard was $51 and hour.

Are you kidding me? Where does the federal government get its money? Is that not the socialism to which you initially objected?

It's only socialism if it's for a program you don't endorse, lol.

Do you object to the fed gov't protecting its borders?

With capitalism, its not only the price at which industry standards are offering labor, for example, that is important, but also what companies are willing to pay for that labor. The most labor that intersects with the highest willingness for companies to pay for that labor gets the most jobs. For example, with the American industry standard of $51 dollars an hour, American labor is pricing itself right out of jobs because few companies are willing to pay for $51 labor especially when the lower priced labor gets just as good of results.

Illegals are willing to accept this lower labor wage especially when the fed gov't offers free housing, free education, free health care and Social Security benefits for retirement illegal or no. Why can't Americans accept the lower wage when they could be receiving free housing, free education, free health care and Social Security benefits from the gov't when they retire?

I'm not saying the fed gov't doesn't employ tactics of socialism, it does. I'm saying employers, Trump for example, don't employ tactics of socialism when they choose which at what price to hire because they aren't bound by all the political machinations of a gov't like the US.

No and I do not object to requiring employers (aka job creators) to comply with federal labor law(s) even if *gasp* it makes them do paperwork or use a federal website.

Completely irrelevant to my point. There is no way any businessperson could possibly think they were hiring legal workers for $8 an hour when the industry standard was $51 and hour. And you are very misinformed about the government benefits unauthorized migrants receive. Despite paying into social security (to the point where the fund has billions of more dollars than it otherwise would have) unauthorized migrants cannot collect social security benefits. They do not receive free healthcare. They are not eligible for free housing (I'm not even aware citizens ever get free housing...just assistance paying a portion depending on income).

Trump is a large employer of illegal aliens, so he's not going to push to really fix the problem. Which is why he's just drumming up The Wall nonsense and nothing that would have a larger impact on the system.

"cept maybe changing public perception and getting some of these globalist, open-borders Socialists kicked out of power.

So you think that even though the going wage was $51 an hour, Trump paid them $8 and hour and just had no idea about the immigration status? What, he thought he just got lucky and was able to pay wages like that? PLEASE.

Have you ever hired an illegal alien?

Have you ever hired an illegal alien?
No. But again, not relevant. The question is whether Trump knew he was hiring unauthorized migrants. He must have known based on the huge disparity in labor costs.

Though it seems that public perception is going against the wall, and there are not many folk (if any) arguing for open-borders. So your entire response is hysterical, hyperpartisan nonsense.

It goes to the question of whether you have any idea how illegals are hired.

Again, you must believe Trump does his own books, hiring etc.

That depends on who you ask and whether they are versed on the actual implementation.

I'd say a third love it, a third hate it and the other third are apathetic.

I have hired illegals and would do it again. So many Americans think it is wrong to try to stop illegals from coming here and then they think it is wrong to hire them so they and their kids do not starve. I cannot understand how democrat logic works.

I'm sure you'd say anything that would support your side regardless of evidence. But the majority are against the wall. It's not quite the cure all people are pretending it to be, and it's just political Kabuki theater, artificial drama, drummed up by Trump.

I think if you threw some CEOs and Board of Directors into jail for hiring illegal aliens, that we'd quickly see an end to the process.
If the democrats believe that will fix the problem why have they done anything about it? Why do they build fences instead?

I don't think it is wrong to hire unauthorized migrants. What is wrong is demonizing and dehumanizing immigrants as rapists and criminals while at the same time exploiting their legal status to get cheap labor to further one's own wealth. That's what Trump did. And to pretend that Trump had no idea he was hiring unauthorized migrants is ridiculous.

While that was slightly facetious, the reasons why the Democrats do not take steps to actually address the problem, such as holding companies responsible for the hiring of illegals, is the same reason why Republicans do not address the problem. The Republocrats in general don't really want the problem solved. They and their buddies make a lot of money by being able to employ illegal aliens at discount prices. Why did Trump hire so many illegals? It's cheap. Sure, the Republocrats want to make it seem like they care about the problem, so they'll bitch and point fingers at each other, but neither side of the One Party will actually do anything about it.

Of course Trump doesn't do his own books or hiring. That would be actual work. But he surely has some idea of the finances of his company and what money is being spent on. If he truly had no clue what the labor he hired cost relative to the industry norm, then he is an even more clueless businessperson than I thought.

Unfortunately, all immogrants must either be vetted or stopped from gaining entry because of the many ruthless murderous thugs around the world seeking to sneak into the country. No matter, American law forbids illegal entry so if we will just get behind our law enforcement officers and seek to uphold the law then we cannot go wrong.

It's what the border patrol wants. About 200 miles of new and upgraded. Considering what they do, not too much to ask.

That's the Left's problem...they don't believe in the rule of law regarding the border. To say they're not open borders is a farce.

Trump's problem is he doesn't believe in the rule of law when disregarding it makes him money. He says immigrants violate the rule of law when they come here to work without authorization, but he knowingly employs them to make more profit (thus ignoring the rule of law with regards to employment).

I'm talking about the Left's problem. You're not denying it.
