Trump: 'We have reached a deal' [to end the shutdown]

No question. Trump took a hit today.
Remains to be seen what happens next.
If Trump has to go the National Emergency route and he succeeds, Nancy and Chuck will have bypassed something of value to them, at least they claim, in order to end up with nothing.
That would be a day they take a hit.

And all it took to end the shutdown was a situation where trump needed a distraction. Thanks Roger Stone!

The dems have 3 weeks, or this begins again and this time, Trump won't own it.

Tim-

Yes he will. That clears up that confusion, hopefully....

Zero funding for the wall and the shutdown is poised to end. Trump boxed himself in and Pelosi's Democrats would not let him out!

Okay, now that the govt is reopened, I say let him have his $5Bn but only if govt is funded through the end of the FW which is September. And I was listening to C-SPAN this afternoon. There are something like four different bills proposed to make it almost impossible to shut down the government over an impasse of this nature.

I'm sure that a lot of you know that our friends in EU are scratching their heads over the whole thing because government shutdown aren't allowed to happen over there, plain and simple.

It's open for another 3 weeks while he and the Democrats work out a deal on border security

What this did was put the ball back in the Democrats be court while taking the pressure of the shutdown off of Trump

If Democrats refuse to follow through then that's on them

I'm okay with giving him his $5Bn but government cannot be shut down again for the rest of the FY (September)

They've got nothing but threats. The silver spoon spoiled brat trump things negotiating is threatening because he's always been in a power position to do so. He's not in that position any more as much as he thinks he is.

So . . . it was, as was the point I was getting at, more important to you that Trump lose than 800,000 people get paid.

No, it was important to me that we ensure this doesn't happen again. When you give a petulant brat a cookie they will only continue to act petulant, knowing they will be given a cookie, as a result.

He did EXACTLY what Pelosi and Schumer demanded of him: open the government to get negotiations.

Conservative leaders didn't believe Pelosi and Schumer, but they showed them up, and now they'll be desperate to take any deal.

Your side lost, pure and simple.

None of the 24 members of the House and Senate who spoke today on C-SPAN see things your way, and about half were Republicans. NONE!! ZERO, ZILCH.

Every last one of them, including Republicans, BLAMED Trump.
Did you hear the part about Rebublicans blaming Trump?

REPUBLICANS BLAMED TRUMP.

How about CNN predicting the exact time and date of that raid ? Incredible.

The FBI conducting a paramilitary be raid on a 66 year olds residence who was accused of process crimes and CNN was there.

CNNs explanation for how they knew was just hilarious. They said recent and unusual grand jury activity is what tipped them off. Not the FBI

If that were the case wouldn't other media outlets be tipped off too ??

A "win" for Trump would mean lots of lost paychecks in those people's futures.

And $6 billion lost in taxpayer money. And hundreds of Texas landowners losing their property for Trump's 'powerful' wall.

UA $5 bn border wall (which is the only thing Trump was holding out for)

Closer to $6 billion. And you really think that $6 billion will cover the entire border? The brat would only demand more.

Trump has pretty much bent over backwards to negotiate.

Oh yes, who could forget his concession to give the Democrats steel instead of concrete? :lamo

Trump caved because Senate republicans were about to mutiny. They're not going to let him shut it down again.

You should have heard them on C-SPAN this afternoon. They were polite, but they were quite clear in blaming Trump, and that was coming from an equal number of Dems and Repubs. Simple to see why too...they were still willing to negotiate some more when Congress came back but Trump cut them off at the pass and MADE THEM look bad to their own people.

I was listening to the House and Senate floor remarks for about 1.5 hrs today.
Even STAUNCH conservatives (as in: NOT Ted Cruz) blamed Trump.

And at least one has admitted he'd rather the workers continue not getting paid than Trump win.

I'd rather there have been no shutdown in the first place. Remember, it was the far right and right-libertarians who were giddy with the prospect of phasing out these jobs.

And Pelosi and Schumer SHOULD make a deal, give him his damn money. But no more shutdowns.
Every single one of the something like twenty-four GOP AND DEM lawmakers speaking today said the same thing, shutdowns must never happen again, and several of them are introducing bills to make it almost impossible from now on.

Even if they would, and they would not, the base would see it as a betrayal and the gop would implode

Gotta love the Tom Cottons of the world.

So . . . it was, as was the point I was getting at, more important to you that Trump lose than 800,000 people get paid.

Since you're using your mind reading powers to determine what people "really" care about, why are you discounting/disregarding the 1.2 million or so private contractors who were also not getting paid, and the businesses that suffered when their customers had to close their wallets. Since you didn't mention them it means, therefore, that you don't care about them. Q.E.D.

I wouldn't start cheering until they get something a bit more longer term than just 3 weeks set. 3 weeks is nothing. Not even a full month.

Dems got this win both politically and publicly. I don't see them giving him a cent in three weeks. Either he would let the government shut down again and lose more voters or he will declare a national 'emergency' in which case it would get bogged down in the court system. He has no out that I see.

You can take your conspiracy bull**** to the correct forum. Your master's political base is crumbling and no amount of your whining will prevent it as it will consume him too. Buckle up butttercup... it's just starting.

Any deal should 90-10 in Democrats favor, with limited wall funding.

It's great that Republicans have finally been given a message that no deals will be made in shutdowns, that will have a lasting impact for the next time they even think about trying their gangster tactics again.

However, there should also be consequences beyond that. The Democrats should be the ones to make the next border security package, not Republicans. Let them have a face saving measure, but they shouldn't get to make demands after what they just tried to pull.

You could have at least tried to inform yourself on this issue instead of making a damned fool out of yourself.

The 1976 National Emergencies Act gives presidents sweeping authority as well as allowance in federal regulations to declare an National emergency, so yes, he can declare a National emergency.

That act was passed as a check on presidential powers of declaring a national emergency.

Good grief, you're really out of it.

Journalists follow up on tips, that's their job. I know you'd like to criminalize any media outlet you despise, but that's not going to happen.

Everyone knew that Mueller was close to indicting Stone, so when the grand jury convened recently, it wasn't a wild gamble to guess that Mueller's office was about to make a move and arrest Stone.

It's really not hard to figure out.
