Trump confuses weather with climate change again:

Since leaving Paris made the U.S a laughing stock among the other signers (which means the rest of the entire world) I would say it was a joke which we were the butt of. Like Trumps appearance at the U.N. which also got a lot of laughs at our expense.

That's an opinion, and one that would be better served in another thread. IMHO it's wrong - especially given how the countries remaining haven't been able to meet even the initial commitments. Hard to laugh at someone for not making unrealistic commitments - when you can't meet yours.

Australia is experiencing the worst heat wave in the nation's history. People are dying and roads are now literally melting.

I had to google this because I thought you were being hyperbolic. I literally did not know this was a thing that could happen. Possibly because I'm from Minnesota and our ****ing roads don't melt here jesus christ how do you people live in places like this

Jesus!

Trump isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

I'm sure he understands the difference between humor and a serious comment. His detractors are so focused on attacking him (and anyone that even appears to defend him), that they can't, to the point of being irrational.

Seriously, he's done plenty to be upset about. He has focused on policies that could be considered controversial. Why not focus on one of those - something real?

This is the sane ****ing idiot who claimed San Antonio was on the border.

Trump confuses weather with climate change again: 'Wouldn’t be bad to have a little good old fashioned Global Warming right now!'

Donald Trump has again confused weather with climate change, suggesting the US would benefit from “a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now” amid forecasts of snow and cold conditions.

Little more than two months since a similarly misleading conflation, the president tweeted: “Be careful and try staying in your house. Large parts of the Country are suffering from tremendous amounts of snow and near record setting cold.

“Amazing how big this system is. Wouldn’t be bad to have a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now!”

In November, Mr Trump conflated seasonal weather with climate change, suggesting chilly conditions meant global warming wasn’t real.

“Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS – Whatever happened to Global Warming?” he tweeted.

COMMENT:-

There probably isn't a single member of Mr. Trump's REAL "base" that doesn't agree with him on this point ("a record cold spell in one area = ZERO 'climate change' because someplace is ALWAYS being cold").

I find it sadly fascinating that I find folks claiming to be able to divine Trumps full understand of a subject by way of a Tweet or two.

I demand more, I need someone to sit him down for a conversation and then report back to me.

Federal agencies have published extensive reports about climate change and its devastating effects during Donald Trump’s presidency.

https://science2017.globalchange.gov/

https://nca2018.globalchange.gov/

While Trump haven't even gone on Fox News to explain what reasons he have for not believing those reports. Instead he continue to make stupid tweets something he have done since long before he became president.

For example that he in 2012 tweeted that global warming was a Chinese hoax.

Trump taking the US out of the Paris agreement was the joke as well as his continued denial of AGW, I have had enough of Trumps "jokes".

Fossil fuel companies have a huge influence on the Trump administration.

“The memo was written by Robert E. Murray, a longtime Trump supporter who donated $300,000 to the president’s inauguration. In it, Mr. Murray, the head of Murray Energy, presented Mr. Trump with a wish list of environmental rollbacks just weeks after the inauguration.

Nearly a year later, the White House and federal agencies have completed or are on track to fulfill most of the 16 detailed requests, even with Monday’s decision by federal regulators to reject a proposal by Energy Secretary Rick Perry to subsidize struggling coal and nuclear plants.

The March 1 memo, which was obtained by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and shared with The New York Times, is addressed to Vice President Mike Pence. The sweeping wish list of regulatory overhauls includes ending regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and ozone and mine safety, as well as cutting the staff of the Environmental Protection Agency “at least in half” and overhauling the Labor Department’s office of mine safety.”

“When the Trump administration laid out a plan this year that would eventually allow cars to emit more pollution, automakers, the obvious winners from the proposal, balked. The changes, they said, went too far even for them.
But it turns out that there was a hidden beneficiary of the plan that was pushing for the changes all along: the nation’s oil industry.

In Congress, on Facebook and in statehouses nationwide, Marathon Petroleum, the country’s largest refiner, worked with powerful oil-industry groups and a conservative policy network financed by the billionaire industrialist Charles G. Koch to run a stealth campaign to roll back car emissions standards,a New York Times investigation has found”

That the Trump administration even plan to spend billions of dollars per year propping up unprofitable coal plants.

This is the sane ****ing idiot who claimed San Antonio was on the border.

He didn't say San Antonio was on the border. He was in the middle of discussing why border walls make cities safer, and then immediately and for no reason whatsoever mentioned that San Antonio got safer in the next, but entirely unrelated sentence!

“Everybody knows that walls work. You look at different places, they put up a wall, no problem,” Trump said outside the White House. “You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places, they go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately, immediately.”

It'd be nice if someone started making the point that all this extreme cold weather is global warming. Heat is energy, and that energy drives weather patterns. The more of it there is in total, the more extreme weather some given locale is likely to experience.

Many Meteorologists refer to "Global Weirding" because the weather patterns get so bizarre.

What does that have to do with the **F*A*C*T** that parts of the US are cold?

Who knew climate could be so complicated?

There is no such thing as that so-called "climate change"!!

How do I know this?

Because the Earth had a climate yesterday, and the Earth has a climate today, and the Earth will have a climate tomorrow. At ABSOLUTELY NO TIME has the Earth ever been without a climate and you cannot change one thing for another without removing the first first.

Don't believe me?

Well then try changing a light bulb WITHOUT taking the old one out first.

SEE!!!!

Can't be done.

That absolutely **P*R*O*V*E*S** that you can't change the Earth's climate without taking the old climate away first and that means that there justhasta be some period of time when the Earth has no climate and there never has been such a time and there never will be such a time.

yep a lot of warming zealots confuse the 2 as well.

It'd be nice if someone started making the point that all this extreme cold weather is global warming. Heat is energy, and that energy drives weather patterns. The more of it there is in total, the more extreme weather some given locale is likely to experience.

actually that isn't true at all.

The fact is that earth climate is something that we still know very little about in how it really functions.
we also know very little in what drives actual climate. We do know a few things but not enough for anyone to claim
OMG END OF THE WORLD that people do.

We do know that the Sun is a main driver as the oceans are a main driver of climate temperatures.
outside of that we know very little what causes shifts in climate that occur.

This current cold snap was actually foretasted a bit by some scientists as the sun begins a new really really deep minimum period.
that however does not make it "global warming".

that is mumbo jumbo nonsense that everything is global warming.
it isn't even scientific to state such things.

Global warming is an actual cataclysmic planetary event.
commonly referred to as a run away green house affect.

we are not seeing anything like that at all.

The sun is causing that temperature increase via a mechanism that nobody can detect in any way!

The HEAT for the temperature rise comes from the Sun.

What the graph indicates is that the rising CO[SUB]2[/SUB] levels are increasing the EFFECT that the HEAT has.

What I suspect is happening is that the EFFECT caused by the CO[SUB]2[/SUB] is pushing the Earth's climate towards a tipping point and the graph appears to substantiate that.

In short, the CO2 is not CAUSING the problem, but it is (very likely) MAKING IT WORSE.

What does that have to do with the **F*A*C*T** that parts of the US are cold?

Again, climate is not weather, but weather can go crazy in a climate that is out of control. The evidence that the world is getting hotter is that temperatures are taken all over the world, in both northern and southern hemispheres, and the average is taken. That average has consistently gone up, and the result has been crazy weather. For instance, the crazy cold in the notheast is a result of the polar vortex going haywire and dumping polar air into the US. At the same time, Australia's roads are actually melting from the severe heat. And don't even get me started on the weather here in Houston. I came to Houston in 1975. In 1976, we had the big flood in which a game in the Astrodome was actually rained out because the Mets couldn't get to the stadium from the airport. Then a number of years went by before the next flood. That was from Claudette in the early '80's. Then nothing at all until Alison in 2001. Then nothing again for more than a decade. And now 5 major floods, each of them being the worst Houston has ever had, occurring in 5 years. And there were other events, such as Sandy in the Northeast. In other parts of the world, thousands have been killed in Bangladesh floods, France has had 2 major heatwaves in which hundreds died, the Antarctic ice sheet is breaking up for the first time in thousands of years, Greenland is starting to become green, drought in California is as bad as the Dust bowl of the 1930's, there have been more wildfires around the world than ever before, and tropical diseases, such as dingy fever, Lacrosse virus disease, and West Nile viruses are in Houston, but were not here when I first came here, and instances of encephalitis, which was in Houston when I arrived, are on the rise.

But part of the US is cold, so no global warming, right? Sorry, but I am laughing in your face. You need to pick up book or paper on climate change, written by an actual scientist, and peer reviewed, and actually read it, instead of listening to energy industry lobbyist garbage on FOX News.

And now let me reply to THIS garbage.....

"Over the time-scale of millions of years, the change in solar intensity is a critical factor influencing climate (e.g., ice ages). However, changes in the rate of solar heating over the last century cannot account for the magnitude of the rise in global mean temperature since the late 1970s."

Yes, this has been peer reviewed, and was written by.............

Wait for it.................

Scientists.

Sorry, obviously the fact that I'm being "The Devil's Advocate" (which doesn't actually mean what most people think it means - but WTF) got past you.

I DO know the difference between "weather" and "climate" and also know the difference between "local conditions" and "global average conditions". Both of those appear to be sets of definitions that Mr. Trump really needs to buy one of my apple boxes to stand on so that they don't keep on going over his head.

I don't know if Mr. Trump's supporters know the differences in those two sets of definitions but they believe Mr. Trump when he tells them that there are no differences (or make statements that could only be made by someone who really, truly, actually, gosh-a-rooty, believes that there are no differences because that's what his gut tells him and he goes with his gut regardless of what the experts say).
