Trump plans to make Democrats an offer to end shutdown, not declare national emergency, in Saturday

Alright, with CNN citing a "senior administration official here - I'm a bit suspect. My suspicion is this will be little of substance in the way of "an offer". It will likely be an "offer" to negotiate in a manner politically advantageous for Trump.

But hey, who knows? If it gets dialogue going, it's a good thing right?

So, what do you think?

trump spoke about persecuting the brown man and ignored the real problem, the government he shut down.

WTF?

The very first order of business should be to reopen this government, end this shutdown today, like right NOW. How can anyone, especially the president of the U.S. ignore the food banks that have been depleted of food. FOOD for God's sake, a basic need of any human being. And it's because of this shutdown. The government MUST be open first, THEN sit down with BOTH parties to hammer out a deal. Not Kushner, not Pence, but CONGRESS and the president together. He never once mentioned these 800,000 people, not once.

Early Saturday morning, nearly 200 people stood in the freezing cold outside a Maryland supermarket waiting to collect a small allotment of free food.

They were federal employees, there to pick up fresh produce and canned goods from the Capital Area Food Bank, which organized five pop-up food distribution centers for government workers.

Ending the shutdown is entirely within the grasp of the Dems. They. Don't.Care.
Destroying Trump is more important than suffering Americans.

How do people not get this?

For vanity wall funding, Trump will support the proposed BRIDGE Act (Graham/Durbin) which provides only three years of temporary legal status and work authorization for the Dreamers.

This proposal was Republican/Republican. No Democrats were consulted. The above isn't near enough of a concession to hand Trump $5.6 billion for his vanity wall.

Trump/McConnell need reopen the government today and then sit down and really negotiate with Democrats instead of walking out like Trump did on January 9.

Trump is losing the PR struggle with Pelosi. The American people didn't hand Democrats a midterm House tsunami just to cave in to Trump.

Trump needs to swallow his narcissistic nature and get serious about earnestly working with a split Congress. Open government. Then work it out. Stop holding these workers hostage.
This post highlights exactly what is wrong with trying to even talk to today's radical Democrats....NOTHING proposed by the president will be "good enough" even if THEY proposed it first, because it came from Trump...

You realize that Trump had two years to get his wall, right? That is, the gov't was completely controlled by Republicans for the 1st two years of his presidency. During that time, they never gave him the wall he so desperately wanted, and now all of the sudden , it's the Democrats fault. Give me a break. Fake outrage.

It's time to give up that narrative, because only the most uninformed idiots actually believe it.

Trump put the ball in Nancy's court in front of the American people. The only way Trump wins this is to turn the American people against the Democrats. About 35% of the people are hardcore Dems and will not change. There are about 35% that are hardcore Republicans and will not change the 30% in the middle can be influenced. Trump needs to look at the most vulnerable members of Congress and advertise in their districts and start having the public put pressure on their representatives. Once enough people call their Democrat representative Congress will start pressuring Nancy to make a deal.

Trump had two years with a Republican controlled Gov't to get his precious wall. they (the Republicans) didn't give it to them then, and now all of the sudden it's the Democrats fault. Give me a break.

Well, Trump just put a big ol' spotlight an Nancy's intransigence. Collateral damage be damned.

She thinks that no matter how badly she harms America that she will get rewarded by those who decide that she is "standing up to Trump".

She might well be right that promoting further decline of the nation is in her best interest, and she is certainly immoral enough to take that route.

I wasn't aware Trump had 60 votes in the Senate during the first 2 years. The House did pass a bill that had border funding but the Dems blocked by Schumer in the Senate. Give me a break.

Chomsky, if there's one thing that's certain, it's that Republicans are going to think twice before playing one of these games again.

No matter what they get, they've turned 58% (at least) of the public against them for a long time. This shutdown is different from ones of past. Because of the changing of majority controls in Congress, people were paying more attention to DC than normal, and were actually able to see how unreasonable Republicans were being in real time. When Trump said "It will be MY shutdown, I will take the mantle!" in front of the press, the public was listening, and a large majority were pissed off.

Nothing they get will undue that damage.

Even if the Democrats gave away the store (which I doubt at this point) they'll be the heroes, because the public WILL see them as the ones to end the shutdown.

My hunch is that when everything is said and done, the Democrats will give Trump a border security package that includes minimal wall funding.

They gave about 1.6 billion last year then went unspent, because the prototypes of the wall failed.

No, you're wrong. The shutdown was not called by democrats, it was all on Trump and it's only him that can end it in a matter of minutes, just like that, boom - it's over. He doesn't have to give up his dream of a wall, that's a matter for Congress to hammer out. But he absolutely must end the shutdown for these people. Americans never caved in to terrorists and our president is acting like a terrorist holding these 800k workers as his hostages.

There is no question Pelosi's moral turpitude allows her to hurt people without compunction. The question is- how long will the rest of the Dems hold her party line, ignore the suffering of their constituents and believe that destroying Trump serves the country and their best interests.

If there was some way the President could just end the shutdown to end the terrible hardships on good Americans.

Damn, if there was just some way he had the power to say "Mr Gorbachev, Open our government."

Yes, if you meet the hostage takers demands...., but if you do, others will think shutting down the government is an effective political ploy. Government shutdowns have to become political suicide for those that instigate them.

Open the government and agree to a gang of eight type negotiation of an immigration reform bill that covers the issues at hand. There is no crisis at the border... building a wall a year or two from now is perfectly fine.

He had majorities in both houses which gave him great negotiation leverage. The Dems want stuff, offer it up for the wall. That is how the legislative process is suppose to work. If Trump wanted the wall, he could have had it. He didn't want it bad enough to do the work.

Trump is suffering the logical consequence like any student that is lazy and fails to do the work, he gets a failing grade.

There are more than 6 blue dog Democrats. If the Republicans desperately wanted it, they could have persuaded those Dems t go along with them. Especially if the Blue dogs voters viewed it as a priority.

But they didn't.

Just smoke and mirrors. Just positioning. They don't actually care about the wall. Never did...until the Dems took the House, then all of the sudden it's a priority..Yea right.

Nancy could end it NOW but she won't and has no good reason why she won't. "Walls are immoral"....really? Let's tear down our existing walls then. Ridiculous.

If there was some way the Dems could stop making their #1 priority destroying Trump and stop acting like they didn't fund the border and agree completely with Trump in the past.

Tell me, why are Dems against what they voted for, in the Senate, in 2013? Why was at least 700 miles of border fence ok in 2013, but 230 miles of border fence something they're willing to make Americans suffer over? Keep the government shutdown over?
Is there any answer that doesn't involve lying or intellectual dishonesty?

What do you tell yourself that makes this obvious play to end Trump above all else, even Americans, OK with you?

I'm betting you're not suffering or affected by the shutdown. In my area, lots of people are and it's getting desperate. People are sick and tired of BOTH sides and don't support the Democrats flouncing off to parts unknown, standing up Trump and Republicans and generally refusing to negotiate whatsoever.
It's wearing thin and Nancy Pelosi is eating through any good will at a very rapid pace right about now.

Got a real source? I would trust John Wayne Gacy with the BYU Boys Choir and vat of Viagra before a trust CNN as a source.
Well, it certainly accurately portrayed Trump's speech. It seems your (mis)trust was misplaced, here.

Get a grip with the leftist's playbook of hyperbolic b.s.
There are no hostages.
Just a lot of people who are getting desperate as they watch Democrats refuse to negotiate.

Take a bow... you nailed it.

In essence this was "...give me my wall and I will make shallow promises that I may not fulfill later....". DACA for a wall was a non-starter.... why did he think that a 3-year extension on DACA had any legs?

View attachment 67248324

Didn't the last shut down end with a promise that was never fulfilled?
Thanks. Yeah, I could smell it coming.

If Trump was serious, he'd negotiate in private. He's still trying to win this with theatre ..

Trump is the only person with the authority to end the shutdown this very moment. **** the wall, **** amnesty, **** DACA, **** Congress. These people are desperate. END the shutdown first, bull**** later.

Oh, that's rich coming from someone who I'm guessing loved Obama...who negotiated with an entire terrorist state.
