Trump plans to make Democrats an offer to end shutdown, not declare national emergency, in Saturday

The Dems are just as guilty as Trump in this. Sure he owns the shut down. But the Dems own the length of it.

So, you think Democrats should pay the hostage takers

Aww, poor Trumpy. Got elected president of the united states. Such a victim. He isn't being handed everything he wants like some kind of dictator. WOE IS HE.

Poor America.

You really should learn to prioritize.

Yeah man, I'm torn on this.

It's my natural nature to be a compromiser. I think independently and draw my own conclusions in life, but when faced with conflict with others I try to be fair and accommodating. However here, I'm torn because I do not agree with compromising with hostage or ransom taking - EVER.

I'm trying to get around my hostage taking mantra, by looking at "political realities" and "the greater good". But, it ain't easy!

I'm hearing it might have to do with DACA which isn't in jeopardy for another year. That is a speculation.

What are you talking about?? Are you really trying to assert that parties in the minority don't take positions, can't write legislation, can't create plans to deal with issues??

You're pretending that the past two years never happened. Where was all the urgency about this wall back then?
What I AM asserting is that the wall and the shutdown are bull****, because the wall wasn't an emergency until Democrats took the House.

I don't think so after watching Trump - his campaign and his presidency. I've been following his political career since it began when he became de facto leader of the birther movement. It's always all about him.

Yes he wants to please his base and only his base but only so he can satisfy his own ego. Everything he does is ultimately for self-aggrandizement and he doesn't really care enough about any policy to really follow through.

He's sincere in his general hatred of hispanics (probably because Salma Hayek rejected him) and a wall would be nice to that end, but if it had been a genuine goal for the sake of 'border security' he would have tirelessly pushed for it from day one. Five hundred miles of it might be done by now.

He has only decided to put his foot down today, when he knows he won't get it and finally can blame the other party because only now do they have the votes to stop him.

Seems like a lot of self loathing and jealousy going on in that post.

Immediately and permanently? Lol

If the government ever had accountability and responsibility to do what’s right for all citizens. I might agree with you.

The government is nothing more than a colloidal place of waste.

Then what are you waiting for? Get the hell out of this god forsaken country. There are 100's of fights daily.

I think all are complicit in this.

Democrats, republicans and many presidents.

All of them have kicked the can down the road and the current batch is wanting more if the same.

So to me the democrats are helping to hold hostage as you put it...

Maybe I’ll get a seat next to you.

So far fetched.

When the House Gavel switched from GOP hand to DEM hand, Chump's level of power diminished significantly. If he wanted to insist on $5+ Billion for Wall Funding without appeasing the DEM leadership, he needed to do it when the GOP controlled both the House and the Senate. He had a window of nearly two years. Add to this, Chump previously claimed to love the poorly educated... and that Mexico would happily pay for the wall.

Alright, with CNN citing a "senior administration official here - I'm a bit suspect. My suspicion is this will be little of substance in the way of "an offer". It will likely be an "offer" to negotiate in a manner politically advantageous for Trump.

But hey, who knows? If it gets dialogue going, it's a good thing right?

So, what do you think?

Got a real source? I would trust John Wayne Gacy with the BYU Boys Choir and vat of Viagra before a trust CNN as a source.

I hope the democrats say,NO DEAL until the shutdown ends, then both can come to the table and hammer it out. End this punishment for 800,000 federal workers.

That may not be possible, but a counter offer will have to be made.

Take a bow... you nailed it.

In essence this was "...give me my wall and I will make shallow promises that I may not fulfill later....". DACA for a wall was a non-starter.... why did he think that a 3-year extension on DACA had any legs?

Didn't the last shut down end with a promise that was never fulfilled?

I see. You're ignoring my point altogether and rehashing a talking point that has nothing to do with what I said.

The Democrats have been clear that they are not interested in a deal, they are the party of "Hell No to anything Tump wants or promised the voters!".

They refuse to play.

Jared Kushner and Mike Pence came up with this proposal. There were no democrats engaged in this proposal and I might add that there was really no mention of the 800,000 people that are standing in food lines, skipping their insulin injections and have to choose between buying gas for their car or food for their kids, not a word about them. This is a dramatic sucker punch from Trump. It's a compilation of previous offers and doesn't offer a permanent solution for Dreamers, and no solution to the temporary protective status of immigrants. This isn't a 'Dream Act' this is a bridge act and doesn't protect the Dreamers on a permanent basis.

He offered 3 years of protections for Dreamers in exchange for 5.7 billion dollars for his wall. Democrats have already rejected this out of hand and if taken together or separately, it is a non-starter. No doubt they will reject the 5.7 billion for a wall.

Lest we forget, Nancy Pelosi clearly told Trump, that no negotiations will continue until the government has been reopened. To think that he can simply hold a press conference on a Saturday afternoon and accomplish something is just a fantasy. This isn't two sides working in a bipartisan way. Trump kept refusing to sign bill after bill that both democrats and republicans had both passed.

So, what do you think?

For vanity wall funding, Trump will support the proposed BRIDGE Act (Graham/Durbin) which provides only three years of temporary legal status and work authorization for the Dreamers.

This proposal was Republican/Republican. No Democrats were consulted. The above isn't near enough of a concession to hand Trump $5.6 billion for his vanity wall.

Trump/McConnell need reopen the government today and then sit down and really negotiate with Democrats instead of walking out like Trump did on January 9.

Trump is losing the PR struggle with Pelosi. The American people didn't hand Democrats a midterm House tsunami just to cave in to Trump.

Trump needs to swallow his narcissistic nature and get serious about earnestly working with a split Congress. Open government. Then work it out. Stop holding these workers hostage.

She said that there will be no money for a wall, not on her watch...THAT is the refusal to play.....which we all should condemn.

They should take the deal but Trump needs to take his wall money in increments over a period of 3 years. 2.5 up front, to get things started rolling, and 1b each year after for the next 3 years. That will keep the builders building and not put such an immediate, unnecessary strain on the annual budget.

Then we can all meet down at the local saloon and sing Kumbaya.

That argument is a joke given that the entire cost will be charged to the kids/grandkids/unborn.

Please try to be serious, we need more serious people.

You're wrong. Democrats voted to keep the government open.

Wow, Hawkeye is against the wall.

A fraction of 1% of our budget is not a strain. Congress just approve 10 BILLION for Mexico and South America.
