Trump Cancels Pelosi's Trip To Egypt, Brussels And Afghanastan

Trouble is Pelosi have never gone against a person like Trump, who by the way cancelled her and other liberals trip to Brussels. Made her look like a fool. In fact she is running away from Trump. She runs to Hawaii, then the big Puerto Rico play in the sand event and then wants to run off for a week and hide in Brussels. She's a joke and no wonder so many of the Dems wanted her out.

There's one thing that Pelosi has to do to end this shutdown and that's to negotiate with Trump in an honest way. But she is afraid to do so because of her far left wing base, and negotiating against Trump, which makes her a coward and why she wants to stay away in hiding

You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, none. If you have the ability to read beyond one sentence in length, you may learn something, but only if you want to learn something.

The purpose of the trip was to express appreciation & thanks to our men & women in uniform for their service & dedication, & to obtain critical national security & intelligence briefings from those on the front lines. The canceled visit was known as a Codel trip — which means details are kept under wraps until the plane lands safely. Congress never announces these trips. Codel trips to military conflict fronts usually occur a few times a year.

On Thursday, Trump said he was revoking a military flight for the Codel, suggesting Pelosi fly commercial instead. the Codel was notified before it became public and the entire contingent was prepared to do exactly that, take commercial flights, until Trump spilled the beans publicly. The fact that Trump would leak that they were planning to fly commercial is a danger not only to those Congressmen but to many other people.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said:

"In the middle of the night, the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased the danger to the delegation and to the troops, security, and other officials supporting the trip. This morning, we learned that the Administration had leaked the commercial travel plans as well."

Hammill said that "in light of the grave threats caused by the President's action, the delegation has decided to postpone the trip so as not to further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travelers on the flights.
"

The Codel to Afghanistan included a required stop in Brussels for pilot rest. In Brussels, the delegation was scheduled to meet with top NATO commanders, US military leaders and key allies–to affirm the United States’ ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance. This last part is key to the reason Trump cancelled the government jet for the codel. It wasn't just his regular petulant child behavior, he wants the U.S. to pull out of NATO, this is what Putin wants more than anything. This is the real reason he didn't want to allow them to get even close to the NATO summit. General Mattis had fully intended to remain in his position until after the NATO conference and had planned to attend to reassure NATO that the U.S. is there with them.

Military transportation that is always available to the House speaker or congressional delegations when they travel abroad on government business, it's vital for national security. By announcing this in advance, Trump jeopardized not only members of Congress, but the locations that they would be stopping are secret military locations, and those serving in those bases could very well have been at risk as well.

In his letter to Pelosi, Trump wrote, “In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate.” But just hours later, First Lady Melania Trump reportedly used another military aircraft to fly to Florida for a weekend vacation at the Trump family’s private Mar-a-Lago resort. (The White House didn’t immediately return Fortune‘s request for comment on the first lady’s trip.)

I have no disagreement. This shutdown is bull****. He's using them as pawns for the most cynical of purposes, even more cynical than the last few GOP shutdowns. Telling enough, private industry seems to be offering them quarter in not evicting, not foreclosing, yadda yadda.

My only point was that the decision in question here re: Pelosi's trip is yet more bull****.

It puts me in a rough situation. I have to support more of this if I want it never to happen again. They need to stop being treated like pawns. But they are pawns now, and they hurt. But, on the other side again, if the Dems cave, Trump will keep doing this.

Same thing with his many bankruptcies, his hush deals for prostitutes, etc. He gets away with it, he does it. Period.

:applaud:applaud:applaud

It's cute how you're redefining "ideologue" to mean - Speaker doing the job of speaker - and ignore the Senate here, and that Pelosi has passed a CR to keep negotiating this stupid issue while opening government, and that the House has passed a series of bills to fund various closed departments NOT related to the Great Wall of Trump, and they're all sitting ignored on McConnell's desk. I also love the "analysis" that I've come to despise in the modern era, which is to draw stupid false equivalents - both sides! - every single time there's a partisan dispute.

No, she's not "as responsible" as the guy who made an "or else!" demand to a lame duck Congress, after an election that saw Democrats with huge gains in Congress, much of it anti-Trump motivated, then to the newly seated Democratic majority, didn't get it, then shut the government down even while offers to continue funding government while negotiations continued passed the Senate by voice vote and would have breezed through the House without the veto threat.

It's amazing - Trump says he'll shut it down, said he'll PROUDLY take the blame until he gets what he's demanded, all of it, he does it, and Trump lemmings everywhere proclaim, "BOTH SIDES!!!"

As I said, they deserve each other.

The suggestion was obviously rhetorical.

LOL! I don't think so. I think you could bet every dollar in your pocket that this idiot didn't know that it has been standard practice since 9/11, which underscored the possibility of a president and a vice president being eliminated in a singular attack, that Speaker no longer traveled via commercial airlines and there was no reason for disclosing what her destinations were going to be either. How is it you don't see the recklessness here?

No member of the HoR or Senate -- Speaker or otherwise -- ever travels to a war zone except by military aircraft. I'm confident the Speaker travels back and forth from her district to DC via commercial air.

Nancy Pelosi never told him not to give a SOTU address, she only told him that because of security concerns due to the shutdown that it would be better for him to do it in the Oval Office in front of cameras or in a presidential written release.

"that is fake news.

Pelosi isn’t worried about security. She invited the president to deliver the State of the Union on Jan. 3, 13 days after the partial government shutdown began. She did not ask the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service before writing the president whether they had concerns about their ability to provide security. Indeed, Politico reports that a planning meeting with the Secret Service was scheduled for the day after Pelosi sent her letter, and subsequently canceled. If Pelosi had bothered to ask, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen would have told her exactly what she said Wednesday on Twitter: “The Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union.”

Pelosi is using her faux security concerns as a pretext to do something unprecedented and outrageous: deny a president of the United States the opportunity to come to Congress and deliver his State of the Union address. Never in the history of our Republic has the House speaker invited, and then disinvited, a sitting president from addressing a joint session of Congress. Yet all those who constantly decry Trump for shattering of presidential norms seem to be perfectly fine when Pelosi is doing the norm shattering — and lying about why she is doing it."

What else do you think I mean't?

You think Melania can build the wall and reopen the government? Interesting......

The certain amount? Do you know what it is? Because I think I read he’s willing to negotiate for it just not willing to take zero.

He already had enhanced border security in the budget resolutions past. The country should not allow the government to shut down because Trump doesn't accept what the democratic process produces and says "how high?" when Coulter and Limbaugh say "jump."

Good then! It will keep his big fat ugly lying face out of our television screens with his bombastic denigration of the democrats and blaming them for the shutdown when this is ALL HIS FAULT

Melania Trump is less vital to this country than Congressmen heading to NATO and to Afghanistan to speak with military leaders consider the fact that it's Congress that has to approve any wars or any funding for military actions. Melania....what does she do other than pose for cameras?

ALL HIS FAULT

I agree with you in that the opportunity for some of these decades old issues to be resolved have come about solely because of the current administration.

To be fair democrats have been denigrating themselves with very little need for aid since 1820

Congress has no business proceeding on vacations, extended trips, or trips of any nature until the current issues are resolved.

I am of a mind that congress should be paid last. You can bet the bank that if congress was not getting paid then they would be voting to pay themselves within minutes....

Congress vs. America: How Congress Raises Its Own Pay

She's not going to go without her delegation and if she puts them in harms' way, she deserves to be impeached.
The trip isn't happening until the shutdown is over.

It shouldn't have taken Trump cancelling it for this to happen.

Now, if Republicans skipped town, and McConnel was taking posh vacations in Hawaii, and Republicans took their families to an all-expenses paid vacation to the beaches of Puerto Rico and essential-to-ending-the-shutdown Republicans left the country for a week while 800,000 workers misses ANOTHER paycheck, the Left would be screaming mad. OMG, can you even imagine Morning Joke?

But that doesn't have to be the case necessarily. Pres. Trump has put more travel restrictions on Congress but they're only limited to use of government conveyance or the use and/or transfer of funds from any Executive Department to members of Congress to travel abroad. Per his most recent memo on the subject matter, the Executive Branch (i.e., Departments and Agencies) will still provide logistics and security support, as appropriate, for such delegations.

So, it would seem to me that the only sticking point here would be how members of Congress coordinate commercial flights abroad during the government shutdown for themselves and their delegates. Once arrangements are made (assuming they can be properly coordinated) everything else would fall into place.

Not only is it facile, it's accurate.

Yep - facile it is...

facile
ADJECTIVE

1. Ignoring the true complexities of an issue; superficial.

‘facile generalizations’

1.1 (of a person) having a superficial or simplistic knowledge or approach.
‘a man of facile and shallow intellect’

The 'facile' part is correct, glad you agree, but not the conclusion unless "both sides" would cover a 99%-1% relative contribution scenario, which is how you're using the conclusion and how the stupid, lazy press uses their "both sides" drivel.

Congress vs. America: How Congress Raises Its Own Pay

I agree that nobody, not one person working in Congress should get a red cent in their paychecks until it's resolved. But these people in Congress are rich, so it wouldn't affect them one little bit. They can still afford to pay for their insulin, gasoline, groceries and mortgage.

All it would take is for Mitch McConnell to go to Trump and say "We've all had enough of this" and give him the CR that was approved by 100% of Congress before the Christmas break, and this could end today. But McConnell is nowhere to be found. A group of newly sworn in Congressmen went together to his office to insist he bring this CR to Trump but he was not there, nowehre to be found, MIA.
