Trump Cancels Pelosi's Trip To Egypt, Brussels And Afghanastan

But what I am interesting in learning are all the names of these Congress critters that were part of this delegation. Was it just House Reps or were there Senators involved? Were they all Democrats? How about lobbyists? I would love to get a list of who was part of this delegation. If you come across any info, I sure hope you will share.

When I learned about this delegation headed by Pelosi traveling to Brussels, Afghanistan, and Egypt it was like Déjà vu of what she pulled during the Bush administration undermining his administration in 2007 even meeting with Assad against the WH wishes while Assad was being exposed to being involved in harboring terrorists groups, Syria was listed as a terrorist state and the Bush administration was putting the hammer down on Syria. I'm not going to get into what stands out to me why she picked Brussels, Afghanistan, and Egypt only to say those are three places where the Trump administration differs greatly from the Obama administration.

So again if you or anyone else comes across a list of those who were part of this delegation, I would be really interested in learning their names.

Nancy Pelosi is smarter than just about anyone in Washington. She's been in politics since she was born -- literally. She comes from a long line of politicians and lawyers. There's no other Speaker of the House in our history that was able to rob the president of his opportunity to turn the SOTU address into a political rage and finger pointing speech, that's what it would be. You, as Trump is doing, vastly underestimate the influence and power of Nancy Pelosi.

There's one thing that Trump has to do to end this shutdown and that's to reenact the protections of DACA and provide a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers.

You know folks like you spend their time on this forum making drive by personal comments but it is getting old. I gave a legitimate reason why I question Pelosi's motives. I am seeking more information of all those involved in this delegation. The good news is they won't be leaving anytime soon.

The Congress contingent was to speak with commanders of the allied forces to receive intelligence regarding strategies, outcomes and projections. Congress needs to be informed from the source for it's Congress that has the power to declare war when necessary. It's all for our own national security and these trips are very common, we don't hear about them, they're not covered by press, so we aren't aware they take place, but they do.

If you're really interested in reasons why NATO is so important, I'll provide those reason. The thing is, despite logic and common sense, people will choose to argue rather than consider the facts. Most people really don't want to think beyond today's tweets from Trump or Hillary's emails.
I know you're all tired of this 'Russia, Russia, Russia' thing but there's just no other way to explain it but to bring Russia into the NATO discussion. It is a fact that Putin hates NATO and the 29 countries it represents. Trump talking about pulling out of NATO strengthens Putin's hand. Putin has always seen NATO as a threat to his borders and to his military. He sees NATO as a superior military alliance, he's avoided confrontations with NATO because he simply knows he would lose the fight. The strength of NATO lays in Article 5, an agreement which says if any of the 29 member countries is attacked the other members including the U.S. are duty-bound to step in and defend it.

While Putin has not attacked a NATO country he has harassed NATO forces by having his fighter jets buzz American ships and planes near Europe. Putin's submarines and ships routinely spy on American and European vessels and he has built up his weapons arsenals near NATO borders. Experts warn that if Trump pulls out of NATO that Putin could become even more aggressive. We would see a Putin that is much more emboldened to use military force and potentially occupying parts of the Baltic countries and he would certainly be emboldened to be much more provocative and seek to disrupt the politics even into Western Europe. This from Putin's perspective would be a game changer.

Advisors are concerned that the spymaster in the Kremlin could or possibly has already, tried to privately manipulate Trump into cutting the NATO cord. He could encourage Trump by saying that NATO stands in the way of better U.S. and Russia relations and if he wants better relations it's time to cut the cord. Mattis had been a former NATO Supreme Commander and now that Mattis is gone our allies are worried that Trump will withdraw and the security net will be gone.

Trump couldn't possibly act more in a way that is furthering Russian interests and antagonistic to our own interests and allies than to be denigrating NATO, talking about withdrawing from NATO, praising autocrats, doing away with sanctions on Russia for invading its neighbors, those actions couldn't even be more destructive of our interests. If Trump's interests lie in the best interests of Russia and not the United States, then that needs to be exposed.

What is it about Pelosi that puts her on the same level as Trump? I've not known her to be crooked, or dishonest (using the fairly low "Congresscritter" scale of course), and she does her job well, knows the caucus, is reliable and when she says she can get votes, gets them. I can't name a single scandal involving her, and she's been in office for over 30 years.

I don't get it. She's basically a competent, and more or less normal, Democratic politician, and Trump is....Trump. Can you explain what about her character as a person or politician causes you to equate her with someone who if nothing else is unique in American history...

She didn't go to Puerto Rico.

Some Democrats did, and they met with lobbyists, which is something Republicans do fairly frequently as well, so I'm not exactly sure why this is supposed to be a criticism of Democrats. You did know PR is a U.S. territory, right? And it's still rebuilding from being ravaged by two major hurricanes, and so lots of stuff to consider in that location.

Just because she’s been there a long time doesn’t mean she’s smart or has common sense.

One thing is for sure. She’s used to dealing with politicians and has no idea how to handle Trump.

She hasn’t robbed the President. Regardless the president can give the state of the union. And like everything the TV networks will follow and show it like no tomorrow. So he loses nothing realky.

The one thing he has to do is be able to have a discussion with Pelosi and Chuck. If they don’t want to talk or negotiate eventually they will own the shutdown.

This just highlights their stupidly and Trump looks that much better. Most people with working common sense know that if there’s a problem you fix it. The Dems just aren’t doing that and it will catch them.

If you have any doubts that Nancy Pelosi is smart ask yourself how many times he has mocked her or called her something like "low IQ". Trump is afraid of Nancy Pelosi because she's a powerful woman and he just can't deal with a woman of real power.

I think you are mistaken about him dealing with women of power. There’s no doubt she’s smart. But I might also remind you you have to pass it to know what’s in it.

So there’s a bit of a contradiction in some ways.

He may have encountered a woman of equal power or influence in Washington besides Nancy Pelosi, I doubt it though. She's the first woman in American history to be 3rd in line of succession to the presidency. I would say that's a pretty smart women.

I don’t think anyone’s doubting she is smart. She probably is. But at the same time Trump is smart as well and he’s playing her pretty good.

I am well aware of the talking points of the planned trip being released after the trip was thwarted by Trump. That doesn't change Pelosi has a history where she did the same thing prior that ended up to undermine the Bush administration. Trump has signaled that he wants to start pulling out troops in Afghanistan and now Democrats sound like neo cons.


Brussells is the headquarters of NATO. Trump has been putting pressure on the countries of NATO to pull their own weight.


In Egypt the power that that came into control of Egypt pushed by the Obama administration ended up in total turmoil. And when el SiSi emerged as the new leader the Obama administration shunned him. The Trump administration has restored that relationship.

He's not smart at all, he was a mob boss all his life, paying people off to get what he wanted. It's different in politics, there's laws to follow and people who will be sure he does follow the law. He's not accustomed to being power-checked, it's a first for him. Right now, she is playing him like a Stradivarius.

They had no plans to travel to Egypt despite what you've read. Trump's bloviation about NATO not paying their way was only a prelude to his speculating that the U.S. should pull out of our NATO commitment. It was a way of him convincing all you people that support him to go along with Putin's plan of our withdrawal. What they contribute whether it's 2% GDP or 5% GDP has nothing at all to do with his need to make Putin happy and withdraw.

Leading Democrats and members of the House Judiciary Committee tweeted late Thursday that President Donald Trump would have obstructed justice if he instructed his former personal attorney to lie before Congress.

“If the President directed [Michael] Cohen to lie to Congress, that is obstruction of justice. Period. Full stop,” Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island wrote online.

That post came less than half an hour after the publication of a report by BuzzFeed News stating that the president ordered his longtime ex-fixer to lie to lawmakers about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, citing two law enforcement officials involved in the investigation of the matter.
