[W:141]******Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I don’t know, but I love the irony of an attack ad on “toxic masculinity” from a company which markets gendered products on the basis that pink and purple casings transform their man razors into lady razors.

There are actually differences in the razors beyond just color. Blade angle, handle angle and materials used. I've researched (looked up on the internet) this, because I was curious why women's razors cost more than men's.

Women tend to shave in a shower, so they need different materials to handle the wetter environment. They also need different handle angles, as men tend to shave in front of a mirror - so they don' t have the same vision requirements of the shaver that women have while in a shower. You can see your entire face in the mirror, where as women have to be able to see the blade area to know where they are shaving.

So, there really is a reason their razors cost more. As with most items subject to the "pink" tax.

Just as an aside :)

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Crazy people are nothing new.

And when they hold a door or stand too close we know it.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

What am I kidding myself? I just said "did I miss something I see nothing wrong"? What was I not seeing? I think its a good thing while conceding companies should stay in there lane. But society has evolved?

Gee, you referenced everything you said in the paragraph I quoted except the part I was responding. The sentence that begins with "In this day and age..."

It is not just this day and age. It has been going on for as long as you have been alive. Even longer.

As for BS You can call it all you want. I dont expect you to BELIEVE MY ACTUAL experiences. TO BE fair it is NOT 100% of the time... That I guarantee. It is MINORITY period. But the Fact that being chivalrous in this day and age has a negative connotation is FACT and it sad.

I want my Children and my son REGARDLESS of how society sees it. To open doors FOR MEN and WOMEN and to say please and thank you when SOMEONE does it for them.

IT IS my responsibility to teach my children manners and continue to perpetuate it regardless of the PC or negative connotations.

Lastly, in just personal "spite" why is hard to believe my experience. Your experience TRUMPSall others. Just because it doesnt happen to you, it doesnt happen to others?

What is your aim to call my claim BS? What benefit do I have on lying on an internet forum in front of strangers that I do not know or have met?

It is because the only people who seem to have those experiences are people who complain about pc. Just as the only people who see people at the supermarket paying for their shopping cart loaded with junk food --and sometimes steak and lobster-- with food stamps are those who oppose food stamps

IOW, the story is apocryphal

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Same. I've never, ever seen anything like that happen, with the exception of a TV show or two. It's like that mythical "food stamp recipient loads her basket with steak and soda and lobster" or "welfare cadillacs."

So again I say, Just because you have NOT seen it, it means no one else has experienced it?

Would you like me to walk down the street to a Section 8 housing complex, and take a photo of the cars parked there. Escalade's, BMW's, Mercedes etc... Would it also be hard to believe in my distract that a Congresswomen ACTUALLY proposed that cars be included as ASSETS when Apply for food stamps as there was an outcry from the public when there was complaints that people that qualified for welfare assistance somehow had enough to by BMW's and Mercedes.

But this NOT true because you have not seen it?

This is ACTUALLY proof that this video/add Shows the blindness and bias of people. THEY only see what they want to see. With NO regard for the other side of the Fence. Women suffer from the #metoo movement BUT that does NOT mean the men suffer any less......

Thanks for pointing out your Society blindness... that because you dont see it it doesnt happen.....Then DISREGARD someone else's claim just because you do not see it.....

I do not believe it because there is absolutely no evidence to support it.

I am certain you are intelligent enough to know the value of unproven claims by an anonymous poster on the Internet.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

IDK about the last part. I've held doors for folks who acted bizarre.

I remember once in a coffee shop I was standing behind a woman making her coffee. I just stood there waiting while she repeatedly added more and more sugar and **** to her coffee. She turned to me and said "Just go, you're making me uncomfortable."

I wasn't leering. I was standing, patiently, while she did her thing.

That's our country now, everyone is a coddled, whiney ****.

Why should anyone believe you and not her? Just going on what's available, I'm leaning her way. Is your avatar an indication of how you appear?

This is your evidence. Let's look at it.

Gotcha! If I may clarify then.... YES you are correct it has been going on for years..... BUT in this day and age, its "seemingly in my opinion" happening MORE and MORE and across more spectrum's of society. Happening Greater in Sports, Movies, Commercials at higher rates and more volatile. (my opinion of course).

With that I am just sharing my experience now you want to class me as "people who complain" In regards to this topic, Sure you can class me as a complainer all you want.

I am just pointing out the fact that being nice sometimes has negative connotations (while you may not have experienced it and I am happy for you) I wish I could say the same and can continue to do things for others without having a hesitation that someone will not appreciate it for what it is.

Take it how you want it. It seems you just want to pick fights with me know for anything I post. So have it I guess, I will be selective in responding to you now!

Have a great day.

No, it is not more prevalent these days

I remember watching I Love Lucy as a child. On the show, Lucy and Ricky slept in separate beds. The point being that there have ALWAYS been things that have been considered socially acceptable, and others socially unacceptable, and woe to those who did not adhere to those social norms. In fact, I would argue that this phenomena was even stronger back when I was a child - an era known for valuing social conformity.

I also remember remember when The Golden Girls was considered ground breaking. And Maude and Murphy Brown.

The only difference between now and then is the specific things that are considered socially acceptable. And those have always been changing. And older people have always complained about the changing standards.

With that I am just sharing my experience now you want to class me as "people who complain" In regards to this topic, Sure you can class me as a complainer all you want.

You most certainly did complain about pc. I classified you as someone who is complaining because you actually complained

I can quote you if you need to be reminded of your own words.

No, you did not merely point out something about being nice. Your examples both dealt with being nice to women, in a thread that is related to womens issues. Your comments were meant to misportray pc, particularly as it relates to women, as having gone too far.

fair enough! And in all fairness I should expect no less then this type of response. So I will happily concede to your point.

With that I will take my experiences and grow from it.

Secondly. I will not submit to the change in society and beliefs as well as continue to perpetuate manners with my children. That one Day if I or my children ever cross your path I will SHOW you the gratitude you deserve for holding the door open for me OR my children or myself hold the door open for you. As I assume per your statement you would show we the same respect. I THANK You For that.

We can have a respectable conversation of our opinions. As I can respect your statement. I will say that it seems we lived in slightly different generations so our interpretation may be different. I will say again in my opinion maybe its due to social media, may be its because as I grew up I was limited by my parents on TV exposure That I was NOT previewed to a lot of political ads etc. MORE so as I have stated on this Website I came on recently to learn more about politics as I WAS VERY ignorant
to it so I may have been purposely blind to to. You know the saying you never notice how many red cars there are on the road till you own one.

I am more than happy to be corrected. If I am wrong. But there is no need to attack my character.

I sorry you feel like I am complaining, I am just sharing my disappointment, With that complaining would also insight me to demand change? I accept it for what it is and will continue to do what I do? I guess its complaining if you want to play semantics.

As for the Thread related to women issues. I swear "Gillette" and the add was Talking about "The best a Man can get" so I did NOT realize it was a WOMENS issues only. I did NOT realizing sharing my comment was NOT allowed in this thread. Misportray Is your interpretation as you stated you have NOT experienced it. I have and have share my experience in no way is that misportraying it.

If I was a women I would like share a potential experience from a man, as a man I am simply sharing my experiencing from a women, Thats is wrong or not allowed?

Oy vey, I wonder who's foundation is behind this ad?

(((Norman Lear))).jpg

This will lose them some customers but in turn give them lots of free publicity, its really not a bad marketing ploy.

I agree... I am trying to build my Karma points.....

With that Sangha Respectfully I really do mean what I said. If you have been fortunate NOT to experience what I have stated. I am honestly happy for you! As I am honestly stating that I WILL do my best to perpetuated respect and chivalry with my children. And if our paths ever cross I hope that I and my children show you the respect you deserve regardless of our differences!

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I have no use for a razor, I have a beard. **** Gillette.

I think Gillette underestimated how many people decided to keep their beards after "no shave November".

If it looks good why not rock it all year.

I sincerely regret having made you feel as if I attacked your character. I actually like you. You are one of the few posters here who is willing to atually listen to what others with opposing viewpoints have to say.

Sharing your disappointment? Isnt that a synonym for complaining?

Not that there is anything wrong with complaining. As a recently certified old man, I will be damned if I let complaining become socially unacceptable. Its my birthright...sort of.

It would have been better if they had just focused on bullying and harassment. Going the #metoo route is idiocy. Remember when that was done? When identity politics wasn't used and instead the actual ISSUES were addressed? Miss those times.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

You seem to have an issue with product manufacturers taking moral stances.

Is it moral if the manufacturers are accusing all masculinity of being toxic in nature?

Would it be moral if the same ones said that all persons of a particular race were of one nature?

In all fariness THIS board can drive a person to that. I am honestly TRY to at least not perpetuated and while SOME Truly have strong feelings and norms. I will do my very best to respect both their disagreements and MORE so concede my inabilities!

Thank you for see me for what I am trying to be. I really do NOT want to create anymore divide, while I will admit, my ignorance may portray "stupidity" I will be happily to be educated =)

With that if I may laught at "US" to be fair I now validate that we are different generations, So in addition to political beliefs. our up bringing within our societies likely differ as sadly I must admit I am a GEN Y (my Generation SUCKS!!! LOL) But I was raised in a pretty decently strict Asian Samurai household. Respect & Integrity was paramount, zero emotions (no hugs or I love you's) While still conforming to my fellow Gen Y'ers.

Anyways I really do appreciate you understanding where I am truly coming from and I hope that many more future "debates" we have while met with some contention will still be VERY productive like this.

Since we are on the sincerity point. If I may edify again.... It has happened to me on small occasions that I get funny looks from women (Let me put it into context) when I hold the door for them (many do say thank you, BUT mostly younger girls about my age or younger as I could be seen as young male looking for a women (as now we can see that age may be the kicker for this?), Almost all of the older women WOULD always say thank you. Its always the 20's some odd girls give me the I can hold the door open myself look or, Why are holding the door you want my number look.....)

And finally I am totally not kidding, a local congress women in my district seriously walked through our section 8 house about 2 blocks from my office. Sent a proposal to City Council to state that anyone filing for Welfare assistance would need to include ALL tangible assets as income. That meant the BMW's as it was on the local news that she was in the parking lot tracking down the owners of the cars.... ITs so crazy I dont think I could make this up LOL!

Sure, but that’s not the message being conveyed. The message in a nutshell is “ don’t be a dick”

Women buy the most razors. So, it's probably a wise ad.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I guess you two did not notice all the virtue signalling going on in that ad.

1/10.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

wait...how did gillette know any of the theybies in this video were men. I saw no people in this video being asked what sex they identify as.

Frankly, I don't care if you believe me. lol. I didn't do anything inappropriate, my wife was with me, and she said the same. That's good enough for me.
