NEW YORK (AP) — A Gillette ad for men invoking the #MeToo movement is sparking intense online backlash, with accusations that it talks down to men and groups calling for a boycott. But Gillette says it doesn’t mind sparking a discussion. Since it debuted Monday, the Internet-only ad has garnered nearly 19 million views on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter — a level of buzz that any brand would covet.

So, what say you? Love it? Hate it? Either way they are bound to make money off it....

The ad...

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I have no use for a razor, I have a beard. **** Gillette.

Breaking News MSM? Gillette Ad?

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Yawn - really tired of the social justice warrior class infesting all aspects of society and life - hope there's significant backlash that causes this company and others to get off their platforms and get down to the business of making and selling products people want to buy. Leave the preaching to others

A timely and needed message...well done.

The Razors are Okay as well.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Well, I like it...got 2 boys of my own, who I taught the golden rule to as they grew up...nothing wrong with teaching your children, boys and girls alike to treat one another with compassion and respect...

Few women have beards yet buy Gillette razors - not only for themselves, but for males in their households. I have a hunch that the "ad" was not targeted to males alone.

Hmm... social justice content on social media - the horror!

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I enjoyed it. There is nothing wrong with discouraging the negative things associated with male culture.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

It also helps that Dollar Shave Club had one of the funniest ads of all time...

Rarely do I buy something base don an ad, but I've been on Dollar Shave Club ever since that ad. Brilliant.

One that shaves it off on a regular basis.

If these ads stir this sort of response, then they're indeed doing something right.

One who has a woman that does not like it and does not enjoy sandpaper on her inner thighs.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

Everyone's looking for a reason to be offended. *sigh*

I mustered up enough "give a ****" to post in here how I don't give a ****. that's about all. Other than that, it's just another petty thing people forward to each other over the interwebz for people to rage on about.

I usually don't yawn when I'm horrified. I yawn when I'm bored. Shame you didn't catch that. As for social media, not my thing - totally ignore all of it. But you do realize, I would think, that this is simply the company using social media to pre-pimp their ad for free because we all know the younger generation are social media drones.

Nothing more manly than taking a super sharp razor to your face at 6 am. Beards are pretty nasty.

I mean, it was a joke.

But also, beards do not feel like sandpaper. Perhaps some stubble does, but that's a problem resulting from saving in the first place.

One might get a different impression based on your interest in posting about its content. I do agree with your astute observation that social media is a valuable advertising platform.

Re: Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar

I'm waiting for the follow-up ad for their Venus customers that implores women to be the best that they can be while depicting them gossiping, nagging their significant others, talking incessantly, laughing at another woman being fat, pulling each other's hair, etc.

You know, so long as we're throwing stupid stereotypes out there.

I completely agree. As bad as some things are I am very glad to be living through a truly positive cultural shift in our society.
