OK, I'll address your comment on it's merits. I don't see anything especially 'petty' in the request. Trump shut down the government, including all the people required to meet the security requirements imposed by a now shut-down agency (DHS). At best Trump is demanding that unpaid federal workers jump through the new requirements of his own DHS to meet those strict security arrangements.
**** that. If DHS says SOTU requires extraordinary efforts to ensure the participants are safe, and that's what Nielsen did, best to do it when the men and women who will do the work (those not on furlough) and who are already taking up the slack from furloughed workers, are not all also when not working figuring out how to pay/extend their damn mortgages or working extra jobs or getting their garage sales ready, i.e. open the damn government so those workers are PAID to meet the new, higher, DHS security standards.
1) Trump's DHS declares SOTU a NSSE which requires the "full resources of the federal government" to ensure the safety of participants
2) Trump declares shutdown, and decides not to pay the people responsible for that security for over a month, and promises a possibly months longer period of no pay for those same people until HE GETS HIS MONEY!!!
Doesn't take a lot of logic to see the disconnect there, unless you're a Trump lemming. What's petty about asking Trump to sacrifice a little bit by delaying his SOTU until the people already sacrificing from no pay for a month get their paychecks and are, you know, paid for the EXTRA work Trump's speech will demand? Seems like the "petty" stance is to not give a **** about the hardships Trump is proud to impose on those workers and sacrifice a little himself. Pelosi isn't asking much. Trump can simply delay his big speech before Congress, or provide the SOTU in writing, or give the speech by his lonesome from the WH. Seems like a small ask versus demanding thousands of federal workers serve TRUMP'S needs for no pay...
