Feds say ‘star’ DEA agent abroad stole millions

MIAMI (AP) — A U.S. federal narcotics agent known for his expensive tastes and high-profile drug seizures has been implicated in a multimillion-dollar money-laundering conspiracy that involved the very cartel criminals he was charged with fighting in Colombia.

A once standout Drug Enforcement Administration agent, Jose Irizarry is accused of conspiring with a longtime DEA informant to launder more than $7 million in illicit drug proceeds, sometimes using an underground network known as the black-market peso exchange, according to five current and former law enforcement officials.

The officials described the case as one of the biggest black eyes in the history of the DEA, an agency that has seen repeated scandals in recent years, and one they fear could have compromised undercover operations in the U.S. and South America.

The conspiracy not only allegedly enriched Irizarry but is believed to have benefited one of South America’s top money launderers, who is a relative of Irizarry’s Colombian wife, said the officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the federal investigation.

COMMENT:-

Of course, since he hasn't been tried, convicted, and sentenced yet we must not investigate his conduct because he is **I*N*N*O*C*E*N*T** - right?

The DEA corrupt? I don't buy it. Next you'll tell me the ATF is inept.

I'm not a fan of the DEA but yes he enjoys the presumption of innocence until he is proved guilty.

One of the few things I agreed with Obama about was giving the gizmo detainees a trial. Civilian or military they need to be given a trial. We dont just lock people up and not give them an opprotunity to defend themselves. The gov can say anything about you. It's what they can prove that matters.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if this kind of thing isn't fairly widespread. The money is just too big.

They should make a special "Trump" award for him. I mean he's doing what Trump does and that's MAGA right?

You appear to have missed the point. It is because he is **I*N*N*O*C*E*N*T** (not having been tried and convicted) that he should never have been investigated at all. The very idea of investigating a person based on a speculation that they MIGHT have been involved in a crime is unconstitutional.

If you don't believe me, just ask any of Mr. Trump's most ardent admirers.

Please surrender your membership card in the Republican party immediately. Those guilty terrorists in Guantanamo are guilty terrorists because we say that they are guilty terrorists and they wouldn't be locked up in Guantanamo if they weren't guilty terrorists so because they are locked up in Guantanamo they must be guilty terrorists because only guilty terrorists are locked up in Guantanamo.

Don't believe me? Just ask any "conservative".

Im all for legalizing drugs and disbanding the DEA.

Apart from the fact that this is another warmed-up story, which was first reported almost a year ago ...,

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/articl...-corruption-colombia-jose-irizarry#.dkeoqqlPB

... the guy was recalled to the US in 2017 and subsequently "resigned", I would say he made his riches under Obama's watch. ;)

An example of the kind of actual corruption that can exist in law enforcement agencies.

The DEA corrupt? I don't buy it.

I don't either.

Now if you want to try "An agent of the DEA corrupt? I don't believe it.", I would say that you need a reality adjustment.

Next you'll tell me the ATF is inept.

That's another matter entirely and, if I HAD TO bet the rent, I'd put my money on "The ATF is inept." - wouldn't you?

Break that down to individual member of the ATF and the statement may, or may not, be true as far as each individual agent is concerned.

Took 6 posts for Trump to be mentioned.

You guys are slacking off.

Well, we know as a conservative, Trump's corruption is one of the things that sold you on him but......:roll:

Well, we know as a conservative, Trump's corruption is one of the things that sold you on him but......:roll:

What the US needs is someone like Jean Chretien - a Head of Government who:

  1. balances the budget;
  2. pays down the national debt;
  3. lowers EVERYONE's taxes;
  4. isn't afraid to be in the middle of a crowd that hasn't been screened to ensure that it doesn't contain anyone who might say something nasty about him;
  5. personally defends himself from physical attacks;
  6. can out heckle hecklers without using profanity (and in a manner that makes the crowd laugh at the heckler);
  7. speaks in a funny manner and doesn't get upset when people make fun of him by mimicking his speech; and
  8. preserves the traditional levels of graft, patronage, and corruption.

Unfortunately Mr. Chretien is 85 years old right now (still going strong) and doesn't live on Cheesburders.
