Burgers by candlelight: Trump lays out fast food for college football champs

I think Trump bought dinner mainly because of that.

Well I cant be certain, but I do remember in the West Wing where they had a similar "shut down", and the staff was let go, so Mrs Bartlett had to do a state dinner. Now I know it is a tv series and all that, but it does make sense if all non essential personnel are let go. So unless Trump pays for the staff himself (and he is too cheap for that), then either he has to order in or have the wife cook (HAHAHHAHHAHA).

This happens to me. I cut out fast food ages ago and if I eat it I start to feel queasy (sometimes I have a few of my kids’ fries). It’s just pure garbage.

Yep. It's been a long time since I've had a burger from a fast food place. As I get older I'm listening to the cues from my stomach so I've eliminated a lot of the things which don't make it happy. Red meat was the first, then dairy. I still have them but very rarely, and in very small amounts.

Blech. Central's burgers up the street would have been da bomb, but I have no problem with what Trump did. I think his heart was in the right place, all around.

I think he gave people what he thinks they want, which isn't a stretch because it's what he apparently eats himself. I don't think there was any malice at all, just a lack of imagination.

ROTFLOL... It seems you’d be going for the food? ROTFLOL...

Me, I wouldn’t care much, and would tell the president to stay strong on the wall... that Democrats eagerly spend 155 Billion on illegals annually, and the 1/10th of 1% of the budget for this year to build the wall is nothing for them to shut government down over.
As you're rapidly humping the Donald's leg.

What a complete joke. Comedy sketch writers couldn't even have come up with something so ridiculous. What an embarrassment. He shelled out his own money, I think that's telling about his real financial status. What an embarrassment this man is

You got to feel bad for these people, its really hard to have to defend such a steaming pile of ****

Pssst... It's not really about the food, it's the trip to the White House and meeting the President. But the fast food was a cool idea, and they literally ate it up.

Well, let's face it. If Trump had the kitchen staff pushed to the limit (the kitchen facilities in the WH are remarkably small for what they can put out) to go all-out on a lavish dinner, the level of hysteria would have gone off the charts.
"How can you serve prime rib au jus while government workers are working without pay!"
"Trump is on ogre for making his unpaid staff pour champagne while they figure out how to pay their rent!"

You get the idea.

Yeah, the cheap guy who just paid oop for the food, LOL!

Agree- Trump thought he had a brilliant idea and frankly, from the social media I saw, the team had a great time. Even stuffed their pockets with Filet O' Fish!
It's a story they'll tell their kids and grandchildren, about how they ate Micky D's off fine china, by candlelight, at the White House.

Remember when Obama took Russian leaders to a local hole-in-the-wall burger joint while in D.C.? OMG!! Obama and Biden were so hip! So cool!
But Trump buying 1100 burgers for Clemson? OMG HE'S SO CHEAP AND HAS NO CLASS!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump laid out a White House feast fit for a government shutdown on Monday: silver platters heaped high with McDonald’s quarter pounders and the red-and-white burger wrappers of Wendy’s.

White House chefs normally would serve much fancier fare underneath the stern gaze of the portrait of Abraham Lincoln in the State Dining Room. But they are furloughed, staying home without paychecks as Trump fights with Congress over funding the federal government.

Personally if I was a champion athlete invited to the WH for dinner, I wouldn't be looking forward to fast food.

Of course you’d be excited to be there. So excited, you’d be trying to hump the Donald’s leg.

He'd be so nervous he'd probably down several vanilla sonic shakes before getting there.

Yeah, where did he get the idea that college football players would gobble up fast food? Who would think that, LOL! But, good thing the left is here to tell us how horrible it was, otherwise we would never know.

And I missed the part about the Clemson players cheering the fast food in that same link.

Some players "whooped" when they saw the spread, according a pool report. does not equate to the Clemson players cheering the fast food.

Take it up with ESPN. I linked their story (and their headline) without comment.

Whoop. :)

Quick, get Jim Acosta on this, we need a real, unbiased reporter. He can show us that the fast food didn't work, as evidenced by the players getting rid of it so quickly.

I usually check on the headlines of the story I'm linking to make sure it matches what I post on here. Why would I take it up with ESPN? That wasn't their headline in what you posted. It was yours.

No. It's the ESPN headline on the ESPN website where I copied it.

No, it isn't the ESPN headline. This is the ESPN headline:

White House serves fast food on silver platters for Clemson celebration

I just clicked the link again to confirm. You may want to click your link to see for yourself.

College kids can scarf down fast food anytime and anyplace. One would think the fare at a once in a lifetime opportunity such as visiting the white house would be a tad more special and not so trailer park.
