Burgers by candlelight: Trump lays out fast food for college football champs

My wife went to the White House during the Bush 43 administration. She ate with Condoleezza Rice in the White House Mess Hall. She had her choice of anything on the menu. She chose Bush's favorite sandwich. A peanut butter sandwich. [emoji38]
Did they cameras to report the event there too?

Hmmm ... if they didn't feel tainted by being in the White House with a that steaming pile of orange excrement, and if they didn't feel bad about being there partying with the architect of the shutdown when hundreds of thousands were suffering from the shutdown, then maybe they were the kind to be amused by the unusual feast and happy to have a story to tell.

You and NeverTrump need a vacation. For goodness sakes.

They’re college athletes who are old enough to appreciate a fine steak meal. And if you’re going to do burgers, you can do much better than a cold Big Mac still in the cardboard box.

Big Macs are as American as Apple Pie. They are the most popular burgers in America. It is a iconic burger with a iconic taste.

This is what Forrest Gump was served when he visited the White House...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump laid out a White House feast fit for a government shutdown on Monday: silver platters heaped high with McDonald’s quarter pounders and the red-and-white burger wrappers of Wendy’s.

White House chefs normally would serve much fancier fare underneath the stern gaze of the portrait of Abraham Lincoln in the State Dining Room. But they are furloughed, staying home without paychecks as Trump fights with Congress over funding the federal government.

Personally if I was a champion athlete invited to the WH for dinner, I wouldn't be looking forward to fast food.

ROTFLOL... It seems you’d be going for the food? ROTFLOL...

Me, I wouldn’t care much, and would tell the president to stay strong on the wall... that Democrats eagerly spend 155 Billion on illegals annually, and the 1/10th of 1% of the budget for this year to build the wall is nothing for them to shut government down over.

WTF? Did he take them all out for ice cream afterwards as well? It's like Little League all over again.

Little league? Nah... that was the previous administration. The One who cowered over major things like Red lines... let ISIS flourish, gave Iran all they dreamed of, and tried something called “lead from behind”.

The One also closed down public sites not requiring guards, so as to hurt veterans of our wars.

The One who called cops stupid, and then had a measly beer with the guy he **** upon.

LOL... a favorite flick of mine. That scene was hilarious.

Anytime the culinary proclivities of Trump are brought up I cannot help but think what a cretin he is. Fast food burgers at a White House dinner!!!!!! IT is an insult to the guests.

I guess you missed something from the OP. Like the entire reason this is happening.

If this is such a big deal for democrats, perhaps you should provide the 1/10th of 1% of the annual budget to fund construction of the wall. Democrats are only happy to spend 31-times that amount to provide services for illegal invaders.

I never knew dinner was even served when sports teams visit the White House. I thought it was just show up, give the president a shirt, take a photo, leave.

Stern gaze of the portrait of Abraham Lincoln...........................I would’ve served prairie dog and black footed ferret.....with that whores pic looking down on my table.

Most of us posters are over twenty, was my point.

Maybe it was a huge hit, I'm not saying that it wasn't. I'm just saying I could never conceive of doing that personally.
I'm thinking White House...you know...good food. Not something they get you know...when in a rush and want to eat poorly.

I completely agree with this. They can get fast food literally any day. But going to the trump White House I would be expecting something a tad more special. You know, considering it’s trump.... mr money bags?? Couldn’t he get it catered from one of his hotels or something? Maybe I’m expecting too much. And honestly fast food gives me stomachaches, but I understand maybe these young dudes would prefer this... maybe? But yeah, I’m with ya. This is very strange to me.

HAHA that was my thought too. We used to take our sons' teams to Wendys and McDs for burgers and then Dairy Queen for desert! Reminded me of that.

If you go for a long while without eating fast food, and then eat it again - you literally feel miserable. We don't do a lot of fast food. We either eat at sit-down restaurants or I cook at home. When we are on the road, and need to make a quick stop, we always regret it later, because we feel lousy.

This happens to me. I cut out fast food ages ago and if I eat it I start to feel queasy (sometimes I have a few of my kids’ fries). It’s just pure garbage.

Likely, favorites of many of the players, too.

Just curious what would make you think McDonald's cheap burgers are "favorites" of the players? How many people do you know say "My favorite food is a McDonalds burger"?

Here is the part again which I highlighted and which explains why there was no food prepared by WH staff/cooks:

"... much of the White House residence staff has been furloughed ..."

Ok true, but if trump can cater garbage fast food, I’m sure he could cater some better stuff, no?

My son plays right now for an NCAA Division 1 college hockey team. His team is fed steaks, chops, salmon, tilapia, organic chicken, and other foods that create the right kind of energy. They are never fed McDonalds and Burger King. And contrary to what that poster and others are saying, they don't appreciate getting this kind of food. Any one of them can walk to the local greasy spoon and get a 99 cent hamburger any time they want.

All of the local restaurants are not furloughed.

Trump's hotel in DC has a catering staff, but to be fair, I don't know that they ever leave the confines of the hotel itself.
