Burgers by candlelight: Trump lays out fast food for college football champs

Players thought it was a joke, dude.

These guys don't eat McDondald's. Many of them are on strict diets. They're all trying to go pro. Cheat days for them are chicken and waffles. Not McDondalds cause they know they will pay for it.

Many of them probably are on strict diets but many of them are not.

As long as they players are happy, I see no issue.

Since he doesn't have anyone to cook for him..............can you imagine any of them actually trying to "cook" a meal???
Lucky to get Bic Macs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump laid out a White House feast fit for a government shutdown on Monday: silver platters heaped high with McDonald’s quarter pounders and the red-and-white burger wrappers of Wendy’s.

White House chefs normally would serve much fancier fare underneath the stern gaze of the portrait of Abraham Lincoln in the State Dining Room. But they are furloughed, staying home without paychecks as Trump fights with Congress over funding the federal government.

Personally if I was a champion athlete invited to the WH for dinner, I wouldn't be looking forward to fast food.

Got a question in general on this subject:

When these sports teams are invited to the WH to meet the president, do those invitations include a sit-down dinner at the WH?

Just curious because I can't find any photos on the internet of any WH dinners showing sports teams ...

Okay. That's why they have the football genes, and you don't. Big Mac diets.

Y'all can stop right there. Hatuey just won this thread.

Personally, I think ordering from a decent pizza place would have been a better move.

It's a nice gesture, and it's rude to complain about hospitality. On a side note, does the guy next to him look like David Zayas or what?

It's not private hospitality. It's an invite to dinner at the White House. The most prestigious and fancy dinner they'll ever attend. The only other time they'll be eating at a tablecloth is at weddings.

"Hospitality" :lamo

I could get higher quality food at Chipotle.

This is a non issue and doesn't affect me or you or anyone here. If the guests did not like the food served, they could have declined. Most everything about our POTUS's behavior disgusts me and I'd rather slide down a razor blade bannister into a bucket of rubbing alcohol (thank you Heather Land :2razz:) than be in the same room with him but I'm not going to bash on this for the sake of bashing.

Was it an invitation to a White House dinner or was it an invitation to the White House?

I still can't find any photos of sports teams attending an actual sit-down dinner at the White House ...

I find this a rather innocuous faux pas to comment upon. It's meaningless. It's not even political.

For all I know, these dinners are always underwhelming. If that's the case, then I believe they should be stepped up in the future.

If it was a dinner for rich people, that would be different. One shouldn't underplay what is for others the biggest dinner they'll ever attend.

Perhaps a fair note but my objection stands:

When an average Joe is fortunate to be invited to dinner at the White House, show him a good time.

For that the average Joe will have to be invited to a dinner in the first place.
Was the average Joe invited to a dinner or just invited to meet the President?

Looks like dinner. Could be a gag or practical joke. An episode of Punked?

How about just being a good host by providing something that was not even offered in the first place?

Surprise fast food. Elegant.

Ya, you would know what a college football player eats.

And chicken and waffles? Talk about a racist comment. Not all black people eat chicken.

I don't know about you but McDonald's provides a good value. You can get two apple pies for $1. That's a steal.

Now Bucky, I know you have eyes - you can tell underage from legal age - at whatever would that be cash or credit job you have it must be a handy ability. You should be able to tell that my pictures has players of all colors. I bet some are college aged, and some are still in HS, and some are barely out of jr. high.

My wife went to the White House during the Bush 43 administration. She ate with Condoleezza Rice in the White House Mess Hall. She had her choice of anything on the menu. She chose Bush's favorite sandwich. A peanut butter sandwich.
