NASCAR lets go of 50 employees in round of layoffs

    From FOX News

NASCAR lets go of 50 employees in round of layoffs

NASCAR laid off roughly 50 employees Friday in a belt-tightening move amid a proposed bid to purchase the International Speedway Corporation, which owns and manages racing venues that host NASCAR races, according to reports.

The number of those let go is less than 5 percent of the company’s workforce. The cuts are said to have hit several departments in the organization's competition and business operations, according to the Daytona Beach Business News-Journal. NASCAR did not say which of its offices were affected.

“A little less than 5 percent of our total workforce was laid off today across our entire company,” a NASCAR official told the publication.

“We’re looking to take our remaining resources and focusing them on initiatives we already have in place that require dollars and that will help us grow.”

NASCAR has sucked ever since they got rid of the door-slammer cars.
Today it is part church service, part "compulsory" patriotism display and it consists of racing vehicles which are anything but stock cars.

NASCAR comes from the roots of bootleggers who built up stock cars in an effort to outrun federal tax agents, known as "revenooers". Drivers were surly and not "family friendly" and the competition was no holds barred. And almost anybody could scrape together enough to get a ticket.

The NASCAR of today is corporate sponsored "chariot racing" priced for the wealthy, and it's about as real as WWE wrestling.
Yes, of course it does take skill, but it's still not "stock car racing".

Just as long as the economy doesn't get so bad that it interferes with "Monster Truck and Tractor Pull" events I won't dig out Gran Pappy's old rifle and march on Washington.

I'm definitely a fan of the old school nostalgia racing events.
I tend to frequent the smaller more local tracks and strips because there is less corporate nonsense and less RW political correctness going on, thus it is more fun and more accessible. Everybody just wants to have a good time.
It is amazing to see the top tier racers set records, but it's just too overpriced these days. So I watch Formula One and NHRA Top Fuel on TV and just go to the lower tier events in person when time permits.
