Tulsi Gabbard says she will run for president in 2020

Too young and I don't think she has a very long list of accomplishments. She'd be the youngest President in history by 5 years.

After Trump, one simply needs to be breathing and they would do a better job than Trump.

Tulsi vs. Trump is a no-brainer.

The best candidate the Dems could run, right there. I'd possibly vote for her. Of course those with no sense will have an issue with her.

In the primary, maybe. Would she be less of a leftist than Biden?

Gabbard and any controversy surrounding her skipped me by. If you could give me an idiot's version for the reason why people don't like her I'd appreciate it. No, this is not a smarmy challenge to you; I really don't have any thoughts one way or another about her.

I have heard that she's an analogue for Jill Stein, and have seen this comment: "I’d pay close attention to the financing of this campaign."

Not to derail the thread, but it's time we drag that word out into the middle of the street and shoot it.

Haha, come on, we need somebody to carry the torch from McCain.

That's a pretty eye catching tweet. Her foreign policy is definitely her most controversial feature and so those aligned with defense interests have painted a target on her back as the enemy. Her "friendliness" with foreign foes is questionable. I'm not sure whether she just believes in being open and trying to work with anybody thinking it is productive to do so, or if there is something not right going on. After Jill Stein / Russia we have to be extra vigilant to any kind of malfeasance. There's no such thing as outlandish conspiracies anymore so it'll be interesting to see if she really is a spoiler or is going to be the victim of a smear campaign. And that's just foreign policy. She's also an economic progressive and like Warren, Bernie she is another establishment target, or is she their poison pill.

Reading down her wiki page I seem to agree with her on most things. I can’t see myself voting for her in the primary, though. As much as I think we could do with some younger blood in the Whitehouse, that might be a bit too young for me. She could change my mind, though.

Not going to lie, she is the one candidate currently that Democrats could run and I would vote for. I may not like much of her domestic policy, but she is one of the few that I actually believe wants to stop all these meaningless wars. They are already trashing her on social media because they know her antiwar message is going to be incredibly popular and they can't have that.

So you're okay with the fact that she likely violated House ethics rule to secretly meet with a brutal dictator. Got it.

For you and the rest of the fascist sympathizers, Trump it is.

Sympathizing with fascism vs. sympathizing with brutal dictatorships. Oh yeah, great choice there. :doh

That's an issue, but an issue she's still better than Trump on.

I'm NPA, but I may change that for the first time in my life so I can have a voice in the dem primary. I need to see what's rising to the top at that time.

That's like saying that it's better to eat pure lard than feces.

There will be a double-digit number of candidates running for the Democratic nominee. We can do far better than Gabbard.

Who is your pick?

I really don't have a favorite, but my vote will go to Trump's opponent.

How exactly is her stand on fascist and sympathizing with brutal dictatorships better than Trump's? And please no "Trump loves Putin" bull****. Real factual examples please.

Haven't made up my mind yet, mainly because I don't know who all's running. There are a number of factors that are going to affect whom I ultimately vote for in the primary, the main (but not only) one, of course, being that he or she can beat tRump.

Other than using it as a classic loony left buzzword I don't think you have clue #1 about what comprises fascism.

"fascist" was a comment towards the poster I replied to, who uses this guy as an avatar.

Trump admires and listens to Enrdrogen, Putin, that cretin "prince" in SA among others. He has no understanding of democracy and is obviously an authoritarian wannabe. He got away with that in business.

Not sure how Trump's desire to turn Syria over to Putin, Iran and Turkey is any worse/different than the worst things Gabbard has said on the topic, but I haven't kept up with her. IMO, we never should have put out foot in Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan, at least nothing more than air or missile strikes.

Tulsi is probably the most competent Democrat in the House. It would be wise for the Democrats to have her out there in contrast to the rest of the party. Keep Nancy, Maxine, Cortez and company in a closet somewhere.

Bar's pretty low.

The words "wise" and "Democrat" should never appear in the same sentence without a negative.

I'm not entirely sure but in some areas, definitely. She's not all about the tons of wars we've been doing, which most people somehow have forgotten that that is a conservative position. Being a warhawk is a progressive position.

I'd never vote for any candidate that is soft on Putin. That's a red-line for me.
