Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi has the power to help Coast Guard Families and she has not used that power.

Why do you suppose, she hasn't taken the moral high ground to help Coast Guard Families get their checks when she has the power to thwart Trump by ending the shut down via her power to do so?

A more salient question, is anyone really hurting aside from Federal workforce employees?

I think millions have complaining about illegal immigration's effect on wages and employment for a VERY long time and it fell on deaf ears or was written down, stuck in a can and kicked down the road endlessly.

Trump may not need a wall.

But, the subject of this thread is about the need of Federal Employees getting their paychecks via ending the shut down.

She has the power to say yes to funding a pointy steel fence without House Republicans help.

She is not using that power to help Federal Employees get their paychecks via her ending the shut down by saying yes, to funding a pointy steel fence.

Why should we spend $25 B on a fence we do not need? Shouldn't we instead spend $25 B on veterans?

There is a report on CNN right now...private contractors, including federal private prisons ran out of money on Dec 21....including ICE....so tell me if the SSA, FBI, ICE, CBP, TSA all do not have funds...who is going to be hurting?

Link, if you would, I thought LE and homeland security were funded, I know TSA is not.

This begins the exponential federal worker/GOP pressure on Trump to stop acting like a petulant spoiled child and sign CRs to fund the government.

The GOP will break with Trump after a few more weeks of this if not sooner. A Trump declared "national emergency" will be in court faster than you can say restraining order.

If Trump can use the "national emergency" Congressional workaround, then so will Democrats in 2020 re: climate change, healthcare, etc.
Trump botched this so badly that he can't even think of a way out of it. That's why he let Congress go home and hasn't declared a national emergency. His stupidity has paralyzed him. I'm not a big fan of Pelosi, but I am amused that she beat him.
