Angry furloughed federal workers protest shutdown at the White House, around the country

Not crap. Just simply addressing the subject of the thread. The plight of Federal Employees not getting their paychecks.

The Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi has the power to end the shut down and has not used that power to help Federal Employees get their paychecks.

She has chosen to thwart Trump by not funding a pointy steel fence.

Instead of thwarting Trump's shut down by ending the shut down and taking the high ground via helping Federal Employees get their paychecks.

She has the power to end the shut down by funding a pointy steel fence which will result in Federal Employees getting their paychecks.

Why do you suppose, she hasn't used that power to save them from their plight?

And the same question should be asked of Turmp

Why should we spend $25 B on a fence we do not need? Shouldn't we instead spend $25 B on veterans?

The subject of this thread is the plight of Federal Employees getting their paychecks via ending the shut down.

Do you have any ideas on how to accomplish that goal?

You seem to be fixating on the fence instead of the Federal Employees plight just like The Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi.

Remember how the government has farmed out so much work to private contractors? I don't see them specifically mentioned in the back-pay article. They are typically hourly - not salaried and didn't get to work the hours. I hope they are included.

They're not. My father who is a retired Army officer now works as a civilian contractor for the DOD. He is not allowed to work and will not be paid for any day of the shutdown. He is just one of hundreds of thousands of independent contractors who will never receive back pay.

Trump won't sign anything that doesn't include funding for his little vanity project, and that's a non-starter. For one, it's completely unnecessary. Secondly, rolling over and giving Trump what he wants with nothing of value in return will just encourage future hostage-taking.

I find it amusing that the Republicans, over the last several years, have proven themselves completely incapable of governing without a hostage to threaten, be it a shutdown or the debt ceiling.
Your attitude is why there is a shutdown. Enjoy reaping what you sow.

The federal government hires direct employees as well as independent contractors. In the case of direct employees, they will indeed receive back pay, but when? "The check is in the mail" doesn't satisfy creditors in real life. In the case of third party contractors, they have been prevented from working and will never receive pay for any period of time that the government is closed.
Sounds like a manufactured crisis

It doesn't help your case when you have to constantly lie about what "the left" wants.
The actions on the left indicate that they do

What you say is true but avoidable with modest savings capable of paying one to two month's bills. When the shutdown ends then replenish the savings account balance.

There is no occupation in the world in which employees have a reasonable expectation of working for no pay. If a person works for a small employer or a startup venture, pay might sometimes be delayed, which is unacceptable. The federal government has the funds to pay its employees, yet it refuses to do so for political purposes. That is grotesque.

His "national emergency" will be smacked down faster than we can say injunction. Even John Roberts will vote against such a gross abuse of power.
Which is why the shutdown should remain in place until the judges rule on it. Let the judges decide if the gov workers are stay furloughed

Dems should be very happy if they think trump is getting the blame. The truth is they know people are not buying what they are selling.

I know, but Trump getting the blame doesn't seem to be good enough.

They want more, no fence funding at the expense of the Federal Employees.

I think that could be true, unless their hatred for Trump has blinded them to the point of not being able to see past that hate.

Trump has an answer to that. He is fighting for securing our border. They are fighting to deny trump something he wants.

We haven't had anything in immigration enforcement in years besides amnesty. E verify will help, so will stronger penalties for companies and escalating penalties for repeat offending companies. Guess how far any of that would get in our current congress?

we haven't had amnesty in 33 years. 1986, when Ronald Reagan was president.

Spoken like a person who has no grasp on the reality of being a full-time, unpaid worker. Thank you for your thoughtless contribution.

These people will never give up this gravy train.

Yes, of all the things that one might consider a gravy train, the first one that comes to mind is expecting one's prenegotiated compensation for working a job. What the ****.

Because they know trump has a good reason for it and they do not. People are not happy with the dems. Even those that disagree with a wall cant be happy with dems

Yeah, I got a brother in law who works at Home Depot . You should see him about gas barbecues.

Good for him. I have no need for gas barbecues. I have a Ninja Foodi Tendercrisp Pressure Cooker. Pour some vinegar in the pot. Put rub on the ribs. Put on the lid. Press a button. Wait for the ding. Apply bar-b-que sauce. Close the lid. Press a button. Wait for the ding. And then eat perfectly cooked ribs that are the best I have ever eaten. No need to stand outside over a hot grill.

He promised a wall...he isn’t going to settle for less

The question now becomes how long can Pelosi and Schumer keep their people in line as the phones start ringing off the hook....and paychecks are no longer flowing

This is a grade A game of chicken and the question is...who blinks first. Trump don’t give a crap, so I expect the longest shutdown in federal history. And the people are gonna be pissed....question is, at which side more?

Well, considering Trump caused this shutdown, my bet is on him. But time will tell.
