Hundreds of TSA screeners calling out sick at major airports

BOOM!

I would also add that you seeking to understand where I am going is a feeble attempt to get me to divulge information that can help you avoid the hole that you have already placed yourself in...

You are truly delusional. give it a rest. All you're managing to do is derail this thread. Let me remind you since you seem to have forgotten, the thread is about TSA workers calling in sick because they're not being paid. Try and stick with it, okay?

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't you introduce the whole you know better about 9/11 thing in this very thread?

I owned you and was extremely easy...

If this shutdown is prolonged much longer, we're going to see the safety of people traveling by air to be very compromised as more TSA agents call out 'sick'. The threat of terrorism increases.

First on CNN: Hundreds of TSA screeners, working without pay, calling out sick at major airports

Washington (CNN)Hundreds of Transportation Security Administration officers, who are required to work without paychecks through the partial government shutdown, have called out from work this week from at least four major airports, according to two senior agency officials and three TSA employee union officials.

The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.
"This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect," Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union, told CNN.

At New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as many as 170 TSA employees have called out each day this week, Thomas tells CNN. Officers from a morning shift were required to work extra hours to cover the gaps.

TSA screeners never find the bad stuff in test after test.... They fail miserably. TSA is nothing but a jobs program.

TSA failed to detect 95 percent of prohibited items at Minneapolis airport: Report

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jul/6/tsa-failed-detect-95-percent-prohibited-items-minn/

The TSA “red team” attempted to smuggle 18 different items past airport security that should easily be detected but prevailed almost every time, the Fox affiliate reported.

“In most cases, they succeeded in getting the banned items through. 17 out of 18 tries by the undercover federal agents saw explosive materials, fake weapons or drugs pass through TSA screening undetected,” KMSP reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the operation.

The acting head of the Transportation Security Administration was reassigned Monday after an internal investigation by the Department of Homeland Security found security failures at dozens of the nation's busiest airports. The breaches allowed undercover investigators to smuggle weapons, fake explosives and other contraband through numerous checkpoints.

Well I guess that's that then, just throw up your hands and walk away, I guess.
"I can't help it the government's broken, what'd you expect?"

Here's what I expect: Sufficient funding to run government so that it can do its job properly, not cash strapped agencies that file reports but never look to see if anything is being done right while kow-towing to right wing politicos who want photo ops and sound bites.

Government service is supposed to be efficient, well staffed and good to the point of being boring as Hell, not bouncing along from crisis to crisis to crisis every day.

But there's a problem...almost half the country is now addicted to the fallacy that government cannot do anything right. Well gee whiz, if you create enough government crises, of course that's going to happen but when right wingers talk about government being broken, they're CELEBRATING.

I'm not particularly interested in this discussion.

So you're saying Democrat lawmakers routinely seek new and better ways to starve government agencies to the point where they can't function properly? Give me some examples, please.
I wasn't using vague references to bureaucratic incompetency, I was being VERY specific about funding and funding only.
You seem to think I believe that incompetency doesn't exist in large bureaucracies.
The thread is about funding, or lack thereof due to the government shutdown.

We can have the conversation about incompetency but that would be a different thread.

Wow. And no, never even implied that.

Count me out of the rest of the discussion. I had little interest to begin with.

Why would they be working for free? Are you suggesting that the airlines and airports are incapable of paying them or are you one of those who simply believes that all money must come from government?
If there's no money to pay the current workers, how are they going to pay new ones?

I've been saying this for a long time, but as far as I'm concerned, every single day that the government is shut down, not only should Congress and the President not get paid, they should each be fined $10,000 each per day for not doing the jobs they were elected to do. We'd never see another shutdown again.

I like it!

Most are millionaires, so not paying them would not be much of a sting, but fining them $10,000 a day each sure would.
Great Idea.

Trump is the person who said he would take responsibility for the shutdown. This story is about the shutdown. Brush up on your troll posts. This one was a fail.

Well, ya gotta consider the limited capacities of the "failee".

I mean come on, lives in NZ and supports Trump and has Donnie and Marie for an avatar? I mean it just screams creepy old man consuming political porn and spending a lot of time on 4chan.

What a sad and useless reply. Good luck with that and all.

Pretty much said it all.....You don't fly because some TSA agent wants to make sure you aren't some nut job with a gun, and that bothers you...Best stay home

What impertinence!

I wish that President Trump could do what President Reagan did when some airport employees did not keep their place: He fired them.

And Calvin Coolidge (when he was a governor) fired all the police officers in a major city because they had gone out on strike.

He said something to the effect of: No public employee has the right to strike against the public's well-being.

We abolished the practice of forcing people to work for free a long time ago.

Sounds so easy, but there's a total of 55,000 of them. If all of them call out, is there any private company in the world that could potentially replace 55,000 trained TSA?

Yeah, the guys already doing the job.

If a private company does it then they will be able to negotiate terms of payment which say that late payments incur penalties.

Unions would also be able to have that effect but....

Nice straw man. I don't like flying because a useless group of idiots that fails anywhere from 60-95% of tests and therefor doesn't actually stop any gun nuts waste my time and violate my rights every time I want to get on a plane.

You were the one saying you don't feel safe without being searched by these guys, even though it doesn't actually stop anything.

Contractors are paid by the government. In the case of the TSA it is DHS.

Explains why republicans don't want immigration at all and have no beef with treating them like **** and kids dying in their custody. They don't view these folks as actual people but as their own demise.

I wonder if we get through all this and there's nothing that becomes of not having TSA around, if we can just go ahead and get rid of them.

Hilarious that republicans that support the wall are ok with trump shutting down DHS.

The sanctimony is absolutely delicious!

So if the security of the passengers is compromised, would you blame the shutdown or the people that willingly call in sick when they are not?

They are very smart....

I agree. It's time someone forced the hand of congress in the shutdown charade. If people begin to feel the pinch of shutdown, congress will act. Now, they can sit on their hands and bloviate.

The kids were sick when they trekked from Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. You have a problem with sick kids dying? Take it up with the organizers of the caravan.
