I'm sure Facebook is very, very, very sorry. I'm sure this is how BeBest works.

Amazon (AMZN) got access Facebook users' names and contact information through their friends on the social network, according to the report, while Microsoft's (MSFT) search engine Bing was allowed to "see the names of virtually all Facebook users' friends without consent." Streaming services Netflix (NFLX) and Spotify (SPOT) had the "ability to read Facebook users' private messages," it said.

It will come down to what is always does, what is in the End User License Agreement you sign to use Facebook and what those security/privacy settings are doing all in relation to what Facebook shares with anyone else.

The bigger issue will be what Congress does next with things they clearly do not understand, which means legislation efforts that are politically popular but come with all sorts of consequences.

But ultimately if you want privacy then stay off of "social media"... which is all about sharing.
