"Woman says she was paid to collect absentee ballots in North Carolina House race"

An absentee ballot witness said Monday that a Bladen County, N.C., electioneer paid her to collect absentee ballots from last month's midterm elections.

Ginger Eason told WSOCTV, a local news station in Charlotte, that Leslie McCrae Dowless, Jr. paid her between $75 and $100 to pick up completed absentee ballots for North Carolina's 9th District, the results of which are being officially investigated.

“I was helping McCrae pick up ballots,” Eason said to the news outlet, referring to the Bladen County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor who appears to be at the center of the probe.

Eason added that she didn't see who people were voting for, but that she never mailed the ballots. Instead, she gave them to Dowless, adding that he did not mention to her that what she was doing was illegal.

Dowless, known locally as McCrae, has been named twice in sworn affidavits as someone who worked for Republican candidate Mark Harris's campaign against Democrat Dan McCready.

When asked by WSOCTV about paying people to pick up ballots, Dowless said that he had no comment.

Where are the republicans on this board that claim they care about electoral fraud? Why aren't they posting in here? Hmmm

Marke is at least commenting, although he's demanding laws that are already in place, and other laws that won't fix this issue.

That said, no one seems to be paying a lot of attention to this case.

There should be a way to check state to state to insure voters are not voting in two or more states.

It's called Interstate cross-check which was created by Kris kobach, the voter suppression King.

All it did was purge duplicate names across States but it was imperfect. It has created too many false positives and it was purging names where the middle names and Social Security numbers differed and since common surnames are more concentrated in the minority races it was biased against minorities. The Purge count in the three swing states that Trump won in exceeded the trumps win numbers by some tenfold. But for Interstate cross-check it is quite likely Hillary would have won the Electoral College as well

How are people so blind?

Just add this to North Carolina's recent past. Those Republicans have been directly assaulting the institution of democracy since 2012. The historical record involves the Supreme Court calling North Carolina Republicans out for unconstitutionally-strict Voter ID laws, the shutting down of select voter polls, and clear racial gerrymandering. The record includes gross court-packing and even a repealed law that gave the GOP-led state congress the power to appoint the newly elected Democrat Governor's gubernatorial Cabinet members! I'm not making this stuff up people:

2013: The U.S. Supreme Court once again declined to reinstate North Carolina's strict voter ID law, which was struck down in 2012 after a court ruled that it was intentionally designed to stop African-Americans from voting. In its ruling, the appeals court said the law was intentionally designed to discriminate against black people. North Carolina legislators had requested data on voting patterns by race and, with that data in hand, drafted a law that would "target African-Americans with almost surgical precision," the court said.

2016: When, despite these efforts to rig the election, a Democrat won the governorship, the controlling Republican Senate granted itself the authority to confirm gubernatorial cabinet appointments in order to pack the executive branch with Republicans, thus trying to render the new governor somewhat powerless. This law was later overturned by the courts.

2016: They also passed to shrink the state court of appeals by three seats, thereby stealing three judicial appointments from the new governor.

Oh, and North Carolina isn't alone. This "****-hole" extremist trash has been going on across the nation wherever the GOP has managed to gain power, largely since a "Kenyan-born African Muslim Arab (um...but not "black")" dared enter the White House in 2008; and then especially after he dared to win re-election in 2012. We have seen this in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Dakota, and Indiana. I'm sure there are others.

And why not? What has been the example of their leaders? What should anybody expect from the Party that made "No" an official policy in 2008? (Paul Ryan is the great irony in this story, by the way.) Donald Trump first sought to help the so-called Tea Party de-legitimize the 2008 election through "birther" bull **** and then he even went as far as to try to de-legitimize his own victory in 2016 by falsely declaring that millions of illegals voted. We have the GOP-led D.C. Congress refusing to consider a seated President's nominee for the Supreme Court for an entire year in 2016, for the very first time in American history. The GOP created a platform based on being an irrational asshole; and after working with right-wing media outlets (FOX) for years to create an unfocused and hateful, irrational mob in its constituency, the GOP actually begged that irrational constituency not to vote for a complete asshole in Donald Trump as far-right extremist organizations began showing up with their support!

So, here's a toast to North Carolina. Showing America and the world what the American Right is all about anymore: People who would carry around a POW Vietnam War Veteran in 2008, and then **** all over him eight years later so that they could carry around a silver-spooned, spoiled-brat elitist who saw military service as beneath him while that former Vietnam War Veteran was a POW....skipped out on a Belleau Wood cemetery visit because of rain...skipped out on a Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony because of phone calls....

your post read like 'there is a voting problem and it needs to be fixed'

ok, so now share with us what you believe the 'fix' should look like. what specific actions will solve the voting problem you 'identified'

Make all voters give their name and last 4 of their social security number to be allowed to vote. That should help clear things up a lot.

We should do everything we can to insure nobody is breaking voting laws.

Then you better start watching your own guys then.

We should pass tighter restrictions so that nobody from either side or any side can continue to corrupt our elections.

and what would those restrictions consist of?

Tell us again how it's the Democrats doing voter fraud?

This is a horrible abuse of power, this is banana republic stuff.

Mark Harris appeared to win by 905 votes over his Democrat opponent. In affidavits, some voters said that people came to their door and collected ballots often unsealed and unfinished ballots. The law in N. Carolina says that 'unless a voter is disabled, it's against the law for a third party to collect absentee ballots by mail from voters.' More than 40% of the ballots requested by African Americans and more than 60% of those requested by American Indians did not make it back to elections officials. For White voters that was just 17%. A consultant for Mark Harris may have had these ballots delivered to his house.

key player may have been the soil and water conservation commissioner for bladen county

Sure!

I'm about to make you feel extremely foolish. Right here, below, is EVIDENCE! That evidence is of massive voter fraud....

....of about 140 cases, mostly in local elections, mostly not even voter fraud but accidentally cast ballots by morons, all of which was found after a 5 year investigation by the Republicans, the same people who are now pretending it's a huge issue again:

https://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/washington/12fraud.html?_r=0

Ah, you say that proves there isn't a reason to worry about voter fraud absent new evidence, do you? Well consider this: Bush was RINO! That asshole tried to improve Medicare. He tried to help TAKERS! That study was another Democratic plot to hide voter fraud and transfer our wealth to third world countries, to destroy America. And I'm not sure, but the whole global warming climate change thing might play into this. Look closely and read between the lines.

(Sorry, I'm not that great at making my posts sounds like idiotic lies).

Voters should not be allowed to register or vote without proof of citizenship, contrary to laws in California and other places.

Such irregularities have occurred in past elections but no investigation was done If the democrat won.

When, where, who?

it's the right wing way. Project what they actually do, what their candidates actually do, on to democrats. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, proven by how they win more seats with significantly less votes.

Just like Trump with his "Lock her up" nonsense while his family and administration commits crime after crime. Just like they yell left wing violence while right wing terrorism is and remains to be the biggest terrorist threat in this country. They are just dishonest POS

being without a birth certificate, how do they demonstrate that citizenship by birth

Is that before, or after repubs put up as many barriers to voting ( legal or otherwise) as possible?
