Would be in favor of Bezos renovating the LIC . Because ya know people have to get to their new Amazon jobs up there.

SEATTLE — After conducting a yearlong search for a second home, Amazon has switched gears and is now finalizing plans to have a total of 50,000 employees in two locations, according to people familiar with the decision-making process.

The company is nearing a deal to move to the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, according to two of the people briefed on the discussions. Amazon is also close to a deal to move to the Crystal City area of Arlington, Va., a Washington suburb, one of the people said.

So Queens and Arlington. Let the speculation began as to what led them to their decision, as well as the split.

More places not Seattle to park jobs. Starbucks is about to dump may hundreds of jobs in Seattle and then ramp up in Atlanta.

Seattle screwed up.

Um. Nothing is happening to the Seattle HQ.

If Queens can get their act together and funnel in some of that $$$ to the transit system here in NYC. Things will be much better. I know the Long Islanders are already mad about increasing rents. However, I'm worried about Arlington. DC is mad Expensive, with Amazon there.....

You're so high on your magical digital-mushrooms that you forgot to type this information out. Aren't you?

My wife is an insider at Starbucks, and a daughter is an insider at Microsoft, I hear things. Plus it is not like we have not seen this before, Boeing moved their HQ completely to Chicago.

Seattle has deeply broken trust with the drivers of jobs, they are looking for exits. Seattle has been using the citizens as ATM's constantly demanding more money but then giving not two ****s about using that money well, and then too not giving two ****s about gaining the support of the people who create the jobs.

Now Seattle gets charged for their bad behavior.....think about this....the downtown transit situation has been so poorly managed that now they are about to claim that a $15 fee per car per day is the only solution, making Seattle the first city in America to toll for entry into the city.

Now THAT's ****ed up, and that is only the start of how they have done the work of government poorly.

This is an expansion. Not a move. Amazon is so big that it needs three HQs.

Queens huh? The 7 train is already packed like sardines. A HQ in Queens will be interesting to say the least.

The rocket think tank and rocket plant are staying in Tacoma.

I had heard that Jeff Bezos did not want his new facilities located in red states.

I'm pretty surprised with these choices. I thought they would pick a location with a more advantageous business climate and tax structure. Looks like they went the opposite direction.

As they are just HQ2's the tax structure is meaningless. I am sure Amazon has it's tax shelters that minimize corporate taxes. They will get a tax break on property and local business taxes (not income taxes). So the main factors for choosing HQ2 locations would be quality of life for the generally young, multicultural and urban employees that tech companies tend to want. Along with a good international airport

Amazon HQ would be better served setting up up shop in some impoverished poor community, somewhere like Mississippi. Alabama or West Virginia. There are communities in those states that could really use that revenue.

There are still a number of options that fit that criteria, and aren't so expensive for everything, including for people to live.

While they are 'HQ2', I would still think they'd want a place they could incorporate subsidiaries (and perhaps potentially move the official HQ) at some point that would have more tax advantages.

The Social Conservatives are in FIRM control of the Republican Party. And over the past 4-5 years we've seen Corps, Companies, conventions, etc. change their plans and shy away from the Red sSates because of their far right, social conservative agendas against gays, minorities, etc.

I think that's what is in play here. But I'm from NY, so Queens? You can't get anymore anti-red state than Queens. But quite honestly you can't get anymore non corporate friendly. I'm not talking about taxes, or any of that. I'm sure Amazon will get all sorts of tax breaks and goodies. But damn Queens? It's crowded, expensive, the transit system is already at it's breaking point. A reason they gave for not expanding in Seattle was because the housing costs, transit etc. was out of control. Queens is already out of control.

IDK..

We need to stop using all variants of "job creators".

What they really are are businesses that need workers to make profits.

Not one creates a job with any other intent.

You only buy the 2x4s you need from the stock of human commodities.

"Job creators" is a term focus grouped by frank luntz as an alternative to all the other words for "rich" which he uses to advertise his services.

Isn't it hilarious how quickly Democrats embrace supply side economics when they stand to benefit from it?
