Gay men reportedly attacked by knife-wielding, slur-yelling couple

Why isn’t the left calling for manditory registration of knives?

because even they aren' that dull

after all-it wouldn't be a sharp move on their part!!

I thought you folks wanted equality? Hate crime laws make some people more privileged than others.

Not really. The idea is that if the motive for the crime can be proven to simply be that the victim was different (in whatever way) from the perp then that expands the potential victim pool tremendously. Much the same concept as tacking on extra sentence time for repeat offenders - or would you rather have the victim count rise just to be more 'equal'?

me neither but I don't wear speedos- as Clint Eastwood noted-a man has to know his limitations and I don't have the figure for those things now-and worse yet, its hard to pack a beretta in one.

I use the words, "harrowing and tragic" and what to I get? T.D. wearing a speedo! How apropos! A speedo is kind of a ball sack bra. Once we're over 60 we need an underwire speedo.

Really? Half of these "news" channels don't really report on the news, they're all about opinions and talking-heads half the time.

You just described Fox News

threatening someone with a knife is a felony in most states. I am not a fan of "hate crime" laws since I find it equally pernicious to try to stab me for any reason

Now this really interests me. Do you think that some violent crimes might be more pernicious because of their motives?

Another thought - an advantage you'd have when being stabbed would be that you and your family would be assured total privacy. Since you're a straight, white male, the news would never cover the incident. AmIrite?

Sounds like you're making the case for a pre-crime. That's even less intelligent than saying killing isn't as bad depending on what flavor of crazy you are.

I prefer my Glock 27. But ditto on the figure.

if someone bashes me with a tire iron to steal my wallet, I suspect the damage won't be less than if the reason was my race or my religion (or lack of it)

Nope, I'm making the case that proving motive is important and a very good predictor of recidivism. I do agree that (ab)use of drugs/alcohol should never be considered as a mitigating factor.

If everyone were equal in the eyes of the government, minority status wouldn't matter in a crime...that's equality. A hate crime is tacking on extra if you attack a special group...hence, not equality.

That's a white man talking.

I suspect it would make the news mainly because I am a former DOJ attorney and I am sure there would be speculation trying to link that with the attack

So, let's do a reality check at post # 14. I posted an article about an alleged hate crime wherein two men were terrorized for being gay. I got a number of responses from the most worthless posters at DP about drugs, homelessness, and trix's president-bitch-savior, despite none of those posts being in fact topical or useful. This is why this country is doomed.

What on gods earth are you talking about? WOW LOL

Do they? This post about meth heads proves why I can't lighten up. You and people like you post and like the most brain dead sentiments I've ever seen. Maybe I'm wrong. Lots of luck to you, but if you're not going to actually contribute to this thread, then maybe shut up and let the adults progress.
Really Mateo you should just light up and chill a little.

A little tip for you MateoMtnClimber.

When you make a thread and want the topic to be about something specific mention that in the OP. You left your OP generalized and up to other posters in the direction that the thread was going to take. If you want your thread to be about hate crimes then at least mention "hate crimes". If you want your thread to be about knives, then at least mention knives. If you want your thread to be about unicorns, then at least mention unicorns.

Point being, when you start a thread direct the thread in the direction that you want it to go. Do not assume that others know why you posted the thread. TELL them why you posted the thread. But if you're going to post generalized OP's, like you did here....don't get upset when the thread does not go the direction that you wanted it to be.

And MSNBC, NBC, CNN, ABC, CBS etc etc

True, but those you mentioned learnt from the best, Faux News, propaganda for the uneducated.

Every day. More news of hate.

“The man yelled, ‘Hey, Speedo man, what are you doing here, get the f*** off my island, you fag,’” Pellissier, 59, said in an interview with NBC News.

Trump World!

Where violence is applauded....

Maybe Trump will have these two to the White House since most NFL and NBA players will not go.

They seem like lovely people.

Not exactly, but I do think that recidivism rates are highly related to motive. Obviously, if one is prone to making a violent attack simply because they encoutered someone different from them that ups the recidivism odds considerably.

Anyway unhinged, triggered,meltdowns aside . .

this is terrible and i hope they throw the book at these loons.
YES they probably are on drugs based on the OPs article thats just common sense LMAO and saying it doesnt excuse their multiple crimes.

And some like you wonder why nobody takes the left seriously anymore...

But Mateo will applaud ya. After all, this is the underlying theme of his thread.
