In another blatant lie, Trump justified holding his rally the day of the massacre in Pittsburgh by falsely claiming the NY Stock exchange opened the day after 911. It is beyond comprehension that he would make such an easily verified lie. My question is for Trump supporters.....Do you like being lied to? Is that why he does it so much?

"And with what happened early today -- that horrible, horrible attack in Pittsburgh -- I was saying maybe I should cancel both this and that," Trump said, referring to the rally and his earlier appearance at the agricultural convention. "And then I said to myself, I remember Dick Grasso, a friend of mine, great guy. He headed up the New York Stock Exchange on September 11. And the New York Stock Exchange was open the following day. He said -- and what they had to do to open it you wouldn't believe. We won't even talk to you about it. But he got that exchange open."

He's lying (again). The stock market in NY was delayed, then closed trading on that day and in fact did not reopen until September 17th, six days later. Anticipating market chaos, panic selling and a disastrous loss of value in the wake of the attacks, the NYSE and the Nasdaq remained closed until September 17, the longest shutdown since 1933. Moreover, many trading, brokerage, and other financial firms had offices in the World Trade Center and were unable to function in the wake of the tragic loss of life and collapse of both towers.

He's such a f'n dope, doesn't he know we can google chit?

The guy lies like a child lies- easily, often, saying whatever will put him in a good light and with no regard whatever for how transparent the lie is. Its like he operates on the principle that once he's said something it becomes the truth.
A spoiled child who's never been taught an adult's responsibility.

A billionaire New Yorker not knowing this is like an NFL player not knowing who won the Super Bowl. Was he lying or just oblivious beyond belief? I think it is the latter.

Our brains take the sensory input it receives and builds a mental image that is our perception of reality. Trump’s brain seems to take a lot more artistic discretion in building that model than most of ours do.

I guess when he says "then I said to myself" he means he is going to just make something up that allows him to name drop and make himself seem important. I am still wondering if Trump supporters actually like being lied to. It seems to me that they do and that is partly why he does it so much.

He DOES lie like a bad child but usually a mother knows when her kid lies, but his base hasn't figured it out yet. It's so sad.

Maybe their mothers didn't tell them enough fairy-tales before they went to sleep at night, they're fairy-tale deprived.

Wait. You think the fact that Trump is lying yet again bothers his fans?

Not even a little.

He just promised a "middle class tax cut" for Nov 1...which is impossible since Congress is NOT IN SESSION

Blatant lies mean nothing to them

Look, in this case style is meaning. His supporters in Congress and among the 1% roll their eyes, but know he allows them to get what they want. His supporters in the media, at FOX or elsewhere, see him as a good carnival barker for policies they support, and his supporters among the people don’t care about the truth, as his style pleases them even as his policies screw them.

Great line in Macbeth by his insomniac wife, “Macbeth hath murdered sleep.”

Trump hath murdered truth.

He doesn't care of you can Google. He knows his base won't question him and will believe him over any media site and any site that says Wall Street shut down is lying.

His supporters don’t care. They ignore what he says because they think he’s one of them and is just trolling everyone else. They think they’re in on the joke.

What they forget is that not everyone understands that what comes out of Trump’s mouth is just means to an end. Some of the poor lost souls that don’t belong anywhere else believe it. They’re sucked into the fake world that Trump sells because it feels a hell of a lot better than the one they live in. Tragedies are inevitable when you fuel fantasies among people that have difficulty dealing with reality.

I know dozens of people that live within a few blocks of the shooting; I live than three miles away from Squirrel Hill and grew up within a mile from where the shooter lived. A good bit of Saturday was spent making sure everyone I knew was okay. Needless to say it’s put a lot into perspective.

Obviously I can’t prove it, but I think the violence and terror of this week can be traced to the manufactured caravan threat. No one commits an evil act unless they believe it’s in service to a greater good. The people that carried out these acts weren’t what anyone would think of as a monster, not before last week. They were outwardly friendly inwardly troubled individuals. All of us know people exactly like them. But something terrified them and convinced them that they needed to take violent action. They had to save “their” people, screw the optics.

We will always have troubled people like the shooter. But we don’t have to tolerate the racial arsonists that use lies and dogwhistles to stoke hated in order to turn out their base or make a quick buck. It’s not everyone, the problem is with a small handful of people that happen to wield a gigantic megaphone. We need to call out their BS when we see it and don’t accept any leader that traffics in dogwhistles. But we also need take personal responsibility and to be respectful of those who happen to buy into it. A lot of them are only doing it because of problems in their own lives, pointing out a hopeless reality isn’t likely to win them over.

I really didn't "get" my sig until now (see below) but I think you explained the phenomena perfectly. Thanks

So you're saying that building the wall will save lives.

We don't give in to the demands of terrorists. We will double down on monitoring Right wing hate groups though. It appears the chickens have come home to roost.

Trump has to be the most misinformed President of the last 100 years. Its either that, or the most dishonest. I reckon its both, quite the dangerous combination.

People still don't get it.

Trump knowingly made this false statement for the same he always makes verifiably false statements: It is outrageous. And because it is outrageous, we are all talking about it and we are not talking about other things. And because the media and pundits fall for it every time, Trump gets to control the narrative. He did this during the 2016 primaries and today most people can't even name two other GOP candidates of that year, let alone articulate one of their policy positions or campaign promises, all because Trump was so busy making **** up and the other candidates could not get a word in edgewise.

If the news cycle calls for something that doesn't serve Trump, he will make a headline or two of his own to change the focus. If he doesn't want you focused on mail bombers or anti-semite mass murderers, he'll say some outrageous stupid lie to distract you. He'll do it again, just watch and wait.
