Vietnam War hero sentenced to 7 years for decades-old rifle purchase: report

Hum. Some choice pieces of information,

He admitted to others he stole the gun from the military. He had a drug habit, and was, even according to his own daughter, mentally unstable. He threatened to shoot people also.

Totally irrelevant to those who are fixated on "He was a decorated veteran who was only exercising his Second Amendment Rights.".

7 years? Seems a bit much for that.

If you read further.

1) He had threatened to kill people
2) He had a narcotics habit
3) He had bragged to people about stealing the gun from the military.
4) His own family thought he was a danger to others.

I read that. I still think it's too big of a sentence. I guess maybe the drugs added a good number on his sentence, too.

The things that I think added a good part was '1) Threatening to shoot people and kill people at the hospital and 2) Having the gun actually be stolen by him from the military (or at least bragging about it), .. and the cocaine didn't help either. The fact his own family thought he was a danger to others certainly reinforced point 1, and was a confirmation.

The man is a wreck, and committed various crimes.

But I think timed already served equals his debt to society.
