Something I'm watching this election. I sure hope this passes.

Will Florida’s Ex-Felons Finally Regain the Right to Vote?
A referendum on the November ballot in Florida would re-enfranchise 1.5 million citizens — and could change the state’s electorate.

Across the country, more than six million people have lost the right to vote because of their criminal records. More than 1.5 million of them live in Florida, a higher number than in any other state. The proposed ballot initiative would automatically restore the right to vote to people with a felony conviction who have completed their sentences.

I think people should regain all of their rights once released. If you can't be trusted to own a firearm or vote then you shouldn't be trusted to be released back into society.

Well I'm glad that the Party of Felons (DNC) are admitting as much now. They used to be in steep denial about this fact. We're still trying to get you to admit that you sympathize with MS-13 instead of American police officers. Maybe in another 5 years you all will be more forthcoming.

Wow. Democrats are sure desperate to get people who will vote for them.

Well....can't really blame them. Trump is deporting all those future Democrat voters that their Messiah Obama let stay in the US illegally.

-- Sorry, that made me literally laugh out loud.

I fully support reintegration of any citizen who has served their time for their crime(s).

That means after they have fully completed all sentencing obligations, they should also be FULLY vested with ALL the rights of any other citizen.

I don't see why they lose voting rights in the first place. They are still citizens regardless.

Makes sense to me. Increasing an ex-con's sense of responsibility to the community will help reduce recidivism.

that's one of the better arguments I have heard.

Democrats aren’t the only ones who support this. Lots of libertarians and conservatives do as well. Unless you think people like TurtleDude are actually closet Democrats. ;)

Well, it's like uncle Joe Biden reportedly said, "if you can't get enough people to vote for you, import some."

Automatically.

It's a key part.

I mean, in Florida you can get your voting rights reinstated but only if you go before a board who can decide one way or the other depending on how they feel that day, there are no guidelines or any such.

Even if you've been out of jail for decades and done nothing wrong in the time since.

It's a ****ed up system that needs fixed.

Ya and I have recently gotten interested in the examination of the lefts bedrock conviction that the members of the imported in the service of the journey to UTOPIA rainbow will stay loyal to them, in spite of their performance.

Sadly this will never happen. Republicans want to be seen as tough on crime and Democrats aren't about to allow more people to own a firearm. I suspect this move is nothing more than politics and believing it would help garner more votes for them, if it were about actually restoring the rights of a citizen then it would be for ALL of their rights. I hope I am proven wrong though.

Lol, Turtle likely won't forgive you for that comment :p

I don't see why they lose voting rights in the first place. They are still citizens regardless.

Because once upon a time Florida was a slave state, and most felonies were charged against former slaves, blacks. Not allowing felons to vote was an excellent way to keep blacks from having any role in elections.

I've always viewed it as legislation that is an extrajudicial life sentence of sorts.

Wel i'm glad that the Party of Racisim (RNC) are admitting as much now with their full throttled hope of bolstering Jim Crow laws. (No I don't think the RNC is the party of racism but you want to play your stupid games and I'm playing by your idiotic rules.)

Then diverting to MS-13? Desperate.

The truth of this statement being how badly you want to micro-target people to suppress the vote in order to maintain power.

Glad I could make you smile. Don't know how I did but, you're welcome.

Somehow I don't think that Flynn, Papadopoulos, Gates, Manafort, Cohen, or any of the Trumps are going to vote for Democrats. Nor the four convicted felons that the GOP ran for congress this year, Arpaio, Blankenship, Grimm, ahd Gianforte. Then we have Duncan Hunter and his wife being indicted on campaign finance violations a few weeks ago.

But having completely missed the point.... Once someone serves their debt to society they should be able to rejoin it. Determining which rights a person should have based on who you think it helps politically is deplorable.

I've stated the same. Once someone has completed their punishment, the full of their rights should be recognized once again.
