Hurricane Michael was upgraded to a "major" Category 3 storm Tuesday evening, with fierce winds and some strengthening still expected ahead of landfall, officials say.

With maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, Hurricane Michael was forecast to drench parts of the northeastern Gulf Coast and bring "life-threatening storm surge," the advisory said. The most severe storm surge is predicted to occur between Mexico Beach and Keaton Beach, Florida, which could see as much 13 feet

People have stuff buckled down but it is still a major storm that could ramp up as it gets closer.
it has a lot of warmer water to go over and conditions are in it's favor.

it is expected to take a huge dog turn right and head straight across GA etc and go back out into the Atlantic by Friday.

Won’t this hurricane create further problems with the algae blooms affecting Florida?

Possibly next year? it will actually probably break the current one up.
it could stall the bloom depending on how much cold water it churns up.

the effect on next years bloom is a question mark.

there are some positive effects that can come out of it.

Any concern that the hurricane could generate a storm surge that pushes the red algae inland?

Whats crazy is my place in Destin, when the storm comes through the lawn sprinklers will still come on at night. They are on a timer.

"GLOBAL WARMING! YOU NEED TO SUCK IT UP AND SPEND BIG AND DO AS YOU ARE TOLD!" is the lead.

It's a big conspiracy by liberals to force you to eat tofu next to solar panels. For reasons you cannot explain, we appear to like the thought of you eating tofu next to solar panels so much that we conscribed thousands and thousands and thousands of scientists around the world - scientists that previously devoted their lives to things they are interested in - just to lie to you, just to make you eat that tofu and to make you do it right next to those panels.

Mwwwwwahahahahahah!

Oh, or maybe it's to transfer wealth to third world countries? Or maybe it's to destroy U.S. Sovereignty? We sneaky liberals have so many motives, why, even we can't keep track of them.

Translation: That was bitter sarcasm and what you said is very stupidly stupid.

It is now a cat 4 hurricane.
we are expecting some light rain and wind.

most of the storm is going to be well north of us.

we will get the cast off stuff.

I am glad I don't live in the Florida panhandle, and I hope that people took it seriously, and got out of there if possible.

pretty much everyone has left or gone to a shelter. there are always those few that well just don't leave no matter what.

Forget Cat 3! Or maybe even Cat 4! This banshee is knocking on Cat 5!

Yep. Don't think it will hit the 150 mile an hour mark by 1pm but it could.
it is moving pretty slow that is where all the damage will come from.

Ivan was the last bad hurricane to hit the area.

Not a worry. Just read the mountain of studies published in peer reviewed journals, available online. They all say the same thing: Global warming is real and mankind is rapidly increasing the rate at which it is happening. So ignorance is no excuse.

Laughing my butt off at this anchorwoman on MSNBC. She is dumb as a rock.

"If it is a very low pressure hurricane, that's a good thing, right?

"What do you mean the winds are different on the east side of the eye?"

"What do you mean the back side of the storm?"

Then she used the term "surge waves".

It's like they found a 4th-grade girl scout and putting her on TV.

LOL

Cat 5. It's a intense but relatively small storm

So called journalists and their editors having little to no knowledge base of their own is a real problem, they become chumps who have no choice to believe what they get told, which very often tends to be lies, because we are in a Dark Age now.

University grads almost all.

Once that prompter can't think for them, they're completely lost.

I know that there are few reports out yet but it looks like it was not as bad as predicted, or was a very tight
small center.

The Apalachicola station, maybe 30 miles from land fall and on the dirty side,
say a 9 foot storm surge and roughly 90 Knot gusts.
The station at Panama City
https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stationhome.html?id=8729108
saw a 7 foot storm surge but lost their wind speed at 90 knots.
I hope those that stayed had good solid (and high) buildings.

Print journalists are little better....They can usually manage to keep their ear to the ground well enough to figure out what the GroupThink is, anything more than that gets dicey.
