It’s very ****ing simple buddy. Mississippi celebrates the murder of American soldiers and sailors. Mississippi committed treason and attempted to destroy the United States of America. Mississippi brutally oppressed loyal Americans for as long as they possibly could following the war.

I care one hell of a lot more about that than I do about anything some random high school band does or doesn’t do.

What does this have to do with liberals? A band director made a controversial call on what to perform and got in trouble for it. As someone who has a superintendent in the family, the superintendent (and really more the principal) usually state to teachers that before they do anything that could be deemed controversial, they are to talk with them beforehand. This is not only to save the school from embarrassment, but to protect the teachers as well. Looks like in this situation the band director didn't do what is normally a no-brainer and get approval first.

Sounds straight forward to me.

I understand, and actually agree with you. I think that you should make a thread about it.

I'm just disagreeing with you on forum etiquette. I don't want to see my side of the fence appear to be attempting to derail the thread. We both know that liberalism certainly isn't a problem in Mississippi. We can attack the OP on that front, if they are trying to make the case that one of the most conservative states in the U.S. has a liberal problem, but we still need to address this specific event on it's own merit. Doing otherwise only makes it appear that we're trying to dodge what might make us look bad.

The best PR we have is that most of the board's leftists are replying with 'What the actual ****?" I don't feel any need to deflect on this point. The best response is probably to simply disown the actions of these well-intentioned kids.

Sure. And, don't forget I also claimed he was a racist. As for being a sociopath, if one is a mass-murderer, I believe that also covers being a sociopath. And the truth is Lincoln did murder some 350,000 of what he considered his own people, and also many native americans, all because they didn't want to be part of his hierarchy. As for the racist claim, he said this to Senator Stehpen Douglas...

First and foremost, for a man you claim was a “white supremacist” Lincoln spent one hell of a lot of time trying to protect African Americans, and in fact ended up going to war to free them from slavery—-the whole reason the South seceded in the first place was due to their belief that Lincoln would end slavery.

Secondly, merely expressing one time support for the Liberia Project isn’t racist in itself like you claim, since the idea of a “Liberia project” seems to have originated with Paul Cuffee, a mixed race Quaker, who was the one who lead the first expeditions over to West Africa.

Thirdly, had the Confederacy not decided slavery was worth killing for and fired on American soldiers, nobody would have died in the first place, so claiming Lincoln was a “sociopath” is moronic.

If you belong to a group, tell the group leader that you want out, and he murders you for it...he's a murderous sociopath. It doesn't matter what type of spin you want to put on it.

And, for all your thinking that Lincoln freed slaves, realize he expanded slavery to include all of us. If the government believes you are not free to secede, the government believes they own you. They steal from you the fruits of your labor. They tell you how you must behave under threat of violence. They do not allow you to leave without their permission. Welcome to the plantation...you've been hoodwinked.
