My youngest son works on medical research for a large public hospital group. His role is meta-data; collecting, storing and processing huge amounts of data. He is in management now but he started in cyber security, and it still occupies much of his time. Their data bases are the target of attempted hacks almost every day. Now they are going through all of the servers they have and any they even just use, due to the Chinese planting chips in almost all US servers. Here is more information;

This SHOULD be a major news story, but I haven't seen it. IMO, this is what you get when you depend on hostile governments for your supply chain.

I doubt is a major story because such spying is common. The US installs backdoors into telecommunication systems

https://www.cnet.com/news/nsa-reportedly-installing-spyware-on-us-made-hardware/

The National Security Agency has been allegedly accessing routers, servers, and other computer network devices to plant backdoors and other spyware before they're shipped overseas, according to the Guardian.

The news about the NSA's alleged interception of hardware comes via journalist Glenn Greenwald's new book about Edward Snowden's NSA leaks titled "No Place to Hide." Greenwald apparently obtained documents from Snowden that detailed the NSA receiving or intercepting various devices in the US before export.
