Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein has told White House officials he is willing to resign in the wake of revelations he once suggested secretly recording the president, but it’s unclear if the resignation has been accepted, according to people familiar with the matter.

One Justice Department official said Rosenstein was on his way to the White House Monday and is preparing to be fired.
If fired-resigns, will be a disaster ( S Show) trying to confirm his replacement

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

You'd probably like this to happen.

No, I just see what will happen. Not hard for an objective person to see.

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

Last I checked, his offer to resign is being disputed.

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

I have read that any already confirmed Cabinet Secretary can fill in for a temporary time....Vacancies Act, I think....

The Solicitor General, from what I hear would move into the position. Not stating that Trump could not appoint another under the Act
I hear an EPA ex official is looking for work............

Only if he resigns or dies. I don't think that works if he is fired.

Well it is just developing, so we can wait and see.

Correct. Up to a 210 days (or about 7 months).

True- fired is not in the Act, and could/would be subjected to court action.

Agreed. But when Washington Post is reporting something I generally take them as the most likely to be true. Gonna have to wait to see how it plays out. Would be absolutely amazing if the deputy AG is gotten rid of because he might have made a joke in private a year ago.

Pruitt didn’t hang on long enough; bet he’s hot under the collar right now.........

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

Seriously doubt Rosenstein is resigning. Can imagine the White House saying Rosenstein resigned while he says otherwise.

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

Yeah, if we could just NOT head directly for a constitutional crisis, that'd be greeeeaaaaatttt.....

Kaitlan Collins of CNN that Kelly and Rosenstein are expected to meet soon. Kelly is only senior staff at WH atm. Everyone else at UN.

He didn't even listen to Sean Hannity........

I'd prefer to see Trump resign and those who voted for him sent to Russia. But, we can't have everything we want.

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

MSNBC is now walking back the resign/firing portion of their reporting. Maybe a “dressing down.”

Kelly and Rosenstein are meeting. Maybe Hannity's coup is happening RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!

That’s correct in substance, but it isn’t perfectly clear-cut. Smart counsel might find some room to maneuver for the president to put someone (other than Francisco) in place even if he goes through with the firing.

Yeah, how would that work.

"Why did you say these awful things about dear Leader!!"
Rosenstein " what things".
"These things in the NYT, you know"
Rosenstein "no, I don't know, it's false, I have stated as such"
"But it was leaked, we always believe anonymous sources!"
...

As far as I'm concerned, top law enforcement is supposed to discuss potential ways to reign in what appears to be a criminal *anyone*, including POTUS. If they put options on the table, it was their job. He should give him the medal of freedom and say good job brownie :)

Re: Rod Rosenstein, who has been overseeing Russia probe, has offered to resign

The latest report from Laura Jarrett on CNN who has spoken to people first hand in the justice dept., Rosenstein has NOT resigned (yet). He was summoned to the white house to meet with John Kelly. I'm going to speculate that John Kelly was given the task of firing him while Trump is in New York and has no part of it but was in fact the one who ordered it.

So, let's wait to see how this really plays out before more speculation.
