U.S. to increase pressure on Venezuela, secretary of state says

The U.S. is preparing a "series of actions" in the coming days to increase pressure on the Venezuelan government, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Fox News on Friday.

"You'll see in the coming days a series of actions that continue to increase the pressure level against the Venezuelan leadership folks, who are working directly against the best interest of the Venezuelan people," Pompeo said.

COMMENT:-

Another way of dealing with the situation is "Chinese navy hospital ship docks in Venezuela amid economic crisis".

Which one do you think it the most likely to create a favourable impression of the government doing it in the Venezuelan people/government?

Of course, since providing humanitarian relief to the Venezuelan people will have the effect of frustrating the American government's sanctions on Venezuela, then there is really only one thing that Mr. Trump can do to respond to this deliberately provocative challenge to American authority (to say nothing about the violation of the Monroe Doctrine) and that is to IMMEDIATELY impose CRUSHING sanctions on China. Absolutely nothing less that a total embargo on all trade between the US and China will suffice AND that has to include a total ban on imports that contain even an iota of "Chinese content".

Right?

More leverage against China.

Sanctions against Venezuela prevents them from using world banking services. That means China has to loan them cash. This puts pressure on China.

China sending that hospital ship costs money. This puts more pressure on China.

More US pressure on Venezuela creates more dependency on China...costing more money. This puts more pressure on China.

Add that the the already existing pressure on China for cash to other countries like NK and Pakistan and the result is a cash drain for China. This is not a good thing for them. It's going to get harder and harder for them to sustain all this.

So...pressure on the crappy Venezuelan government and pressure on China. Two birds...etc.

Thank you, President Trump.

An expected response.

No, you didnt.

Actually you didnt credibly dispute anything...instead you simply tried being dismissive. That didnt really work out well, yano?

Since the original response didn't come even remotely close to dealing with the question posed, I don't see why I should be required to contribute to thread drift.

I have never questioned the fact that you are sincere in your opinions. I don't happen to share them, that's all.

So...you DON'T want to dispute my contentions.

Okay.

Okay.

I will be more than happy to do that IF you want to actually address the topic of the thread.

PS - The "cost" to the Chinese government for sending a hospital ship to provide humanitarian aid is negligible and the INCREMENTAL cost of doing so is even lower.

With the trillions they have earned in their export account, they can afford to explore the use of soft power in the Americas.

China wants to loan them money they can’t repay so they can own part of it and militarize it against the USA at a time of their choosing.

Oh no they can't.

The cost of sending one hospital ship to Venezuela will bankrupt China. At least that appears to be what Mycroft thinks.

The costs add up.

Thread drift?

No offense, but are you originally from Quebec perhaps, English not your first language? That is specifically what his post was ALL about. He merely wasnt a simpleton as regards international relations, gave a far more accurate view on what is and might should be regarding America's, Trump's, path charted ...to the situation as described.

The costs add up.

True.

Now, what does that have to do with "Which one do you think it the most likely to create a favourable impression of the government doing it in the Venezuelan people/government?".

[HINT:- Four words "N__ O__ D___ T____"]

They aren’t paying US wages.

True.

But, then again, they don't work for the government of the United States of America either.

So your point would be - what?

That every worker throughout the whole world should be paid exactly the same wages for doing the same jobs?

The original response was to do with the cost - to the Chinese - of what the Chinese government was doing.

The original question asked was "Which one do you think it the most likely to create a favourable impression of the government doing it in the Venezuelan people/government?".

The original response (although potentially factually correct) had exactly ZIP to do with the original question.

Favorable impression?

LOL!!

That's like putting a bandaid on a severed arm and saying, "There...see? Now doesn't that feel better?" As opposed to hunting down the guys who are going around and chopping arms off of people.

One creates a favorable impression. The other actually deals with the problem.

It was proper avoidance of a stupid question/position. A "which really stupid thing would you advise?" sort of query.

Question: Why would a conscious debater get locked into such stupidity?

Answer: They wont.

Yano?

The question didn't have anything whatsoever to do with the actions of the Venezuelan government - but you knew that, didn't you?

The question did have a whole lot to do with the impression that the actions of the Chinese government would create ON the government and people of Venezuela, and you (again) avoided answering it - but you knew that, didn't you?

So asking "How do you think that 'X' will feel about 'Y' as opposed to 'Z'? is (or, alternatively "Which one do you think it the most likely to create a favourable impression of the government doing it in the Venezuelan people/government?") a "stupid position/question" as far as you are concerned is it?

Opinion noted.

While the Chinese are putting that bandaid on the stump, do you think the people don't know that the Chinese are also supporting the the government that cut off the arm? Somehow, I don't think that hospital ship will change the minds of the people.

Yep.

Two stupid choices should be avoided and replaced by the more viable smarter choices.

Why pick a loser when winning is an available option?
