Why would they even need to tarnish Garland? Refusing him a hearing was sufficient. Also, your post contains the inherent assumption that Republicans could find something dirty on Garland if they really wanted to.

The unfolding drama over the allegations of Christine Blasey Ford just got even more bizarre as Ed Whelan, president of the conservative Ethics and Public Center (EPPC) released the picture of a remarkably similar looking teenager who could have been the culprit in the alleged attempted rape. While Ford insists that she could not be mistaken, the release of the photo adds a new element to the hearing . . . and could raise some interesting legal issues after suggesting Chris Garrett (right) could be responsible for the attack. The problem is that there is not a single scintilla of evidence that has been offered to link Garrett to the alleged assault. He has simply been drop into these boiling cauldron and the only explanation is his similar looks and home in the area (which is hardly surprising for schoolmates who attended the same school).

Update: Whelan has now issued a statement that “I made an appalling and inexcusable mistake of judgment in posting the tweet thread in a way that identified Kavanaugh’s Georgetown Prep classmate. I take full responsibility for that mistake, and I deeply apologize for it. I realize that does not undo the mistake

The point is: To push this through without a proper (FBI) investigation, is dereliction of duty.

I expect nothing less from Trump and the GOP. I find them repulsive.

Especially the ones I wasn’t at?

I can tell you that if someone from pretty much every party I went to said “hey...remember that party over at Tillman’s moms house where Joanie took off her top and dance on the table to The Wall”? I would remember it. And if I was one of just 4-5 people at a party where one of those attending just up and vanished...yeah...I think I would recall that as well.

So no one else can answer it...maybe you can. WHY do you believe her? None of the participants she has claimed were in attendance have any recollection of the party, let alone the incident. Whatever may or may not have happened happened 4 decades ago. The woman in question has a history of liberal activism and an axe to grind against Trump.

So why do you believe her? A REASONABLE position would be to believe it possible. But to BELIEVE it happened with nothing more than he said she said? You have to be invested in THAT it happened.

Not only is Kavanaugh being defamed, but the people who she's named like Mark Judge, etc are being defamed by being declared as witnesses to an act which they say didn't happen in front of them.

If it was me, I'd feel like I'd been declared an accessory to a crime - I'd be suing for damages from the DNC, Washington Post, CNN, and whoever else helped to feed this hysteria. And yes, I'd be suing the accuser herself.

The media are circulating a Scarlet Letter.

May be it's time to retire Graham from politics. He's starting to get as daffy as the man at the top. For God's sake. Kavanaugh's life isn't going to be "ruined" should he be denied a seat on the Supreme Court. I'm pretty sure that if that happens that he would not then feel compelled to move far away and seek therapy.

And actually the fact that this was 36 years ago makes it quite easy for anyone who doesn't want to get caught up in this controversy to claim that they don't recall or don't remember and thus avoid making any kind of definitive statement one way or the other for which they might later be on the hook for.

This absolutely proves that Ms. Ford is lying since I have total recall of every party that I attended in High School, or even back in the 1970s if you want to stick with a 40 year time limit.

I'm sure that you can recall every party that you attended 40 years ago as well.

Nope I certainly don’t. But I wouldn’t go try to destroy someone for something I could not really substantiate or prove.
 
Given there were only five people at the party, and two of those weren't in the room when it happened, that's an overfilled witness box.
