This is exactly why women don’t come forward... responses like this one. Quite honestly this response is disgusting to me. When will women ever be given the benefit of the doubt? Are we all just liars, 24/7?
Oh, I made my post knowing that you might react like this. So hear my response.
I did not accuse all women of being liars, or most women of being liars, or anything like that. I'm saying that the burden of proof must always be on the accuser - yes, even if the accuser is a woman, a black person, a white person, an asian person, a left-handed albino hemophiliac person - the standard must remain the same. There are no special categories in the Constitution. The purveyors of Identity Politics seek to do an end-run around these requirements.
A man who accuses faces burden of proof as an accuser. Likewise, a woman who accuses must face burden of proof as an accuser. There is no special loophole here. No special exceptions or exemptions.
She’s sacrificed her life and safety for the good of our country. She lost her home and can’t go back to her job. She had to go into hiding and have round the clock security because she, her husband and her CHILDREN are receiving credible death threats. To think *she* is politically motivated or part of some conspiracy is insane. To brush off her assault because she didn’t report it as a 15 year old is just disgusting. What’s happening to her is yet another dark, horrific stain on our history.
We don't know anything about what she's been through, because she won't even appear in public in front of the Senate committee. It's not the Republicans who leaked her name - it's obviously someone from Feinstein's camp, or else the accuser herself - because they're the only ones who knew about the letter. The accuser has a lawyer who is a known Democrat activist and fund-raiser. It's looking very possible that the Democrats are using the accuser for their own partisan ends. Feinstein should not have quietly sat on the letter for months, while avoiding questioning Kavanaugh on the allegations in the latter. They shouldn't have leaked her name to the Washington Post before the accuser had a chance to testify.
The chance is extremely low that she is making all of this up. There should be an investigation and we should hear her story instead of push this guy through so quickly. It is NOT common that women make up stories just to ruin a man’s life. It is MORE common that women are victims of sexual assault. This is a fact. Forgive me for sympathizing with a woman who claims she went through the same thing that I went through. I don’t agree with the republicans and I think it’s a shame they are giving her ultimatums. She should be heard. This goes for anyone coming forward about sexual assault. We just want the truth. Why wouldn’t you want to hear her story? You really want this dude on the SC if what he did is true? Sad if you do.
The Senate committee has invited her to speak. She should do so in a straightforward way - by not doing so, she is further muddying the waters.
That Senate committee has the power to subpoena her, and compel her to speak, if they wish - under legal penalty if the person refuses.
I don't want anyone on the Supreme Court if they've committed a criminal act. But I can't just accept that someone is a criminal based on a mere accusation. If that's the standard, then anyone can accuse anyone else of anything, and then it has to be accepted. The burden of proof is on the accuser - must always be - whether it's me accusing you of something, or you accusing me.
