(Reuters) - A Texas man at the center of a legal battle over his plan to make instructions available for 3-D printed plastic guns flew to Taiwan after learning police in Austin were investigating an accusation he had sex with an underage girl, police said on Wednesday.

Cody Wilson, 30, was placed under investigation after a counselor on Aug. 22 told police that a 16-year-old girl had said she was paid $500 to have sex with Wilson at an Austin hotel, Austin Police Commander Troy Officer said at a news conference.

Police later interviewed the girl and on Wednesday obtained a warrant for Wilson’s arrest, but by then he had caught a flight to Taiwan, Officer said.

I had posted the original story earlier. New specifics: girl was 16. And there is currently no extradition treaty between Taiwan & the U.S.:

So in addition to being an alt-right fanatic and white nationalist enabler, he's also an alleged sexual predator? Who saw that coming...

No way this could be a hoax.

He won a perfect trifecta.

A hoax? Which part?

Cmdr. Troy Officer of the Austin Police Department said that a warrant had been filed for Mr. Wilson’s arrest and that local detectives were working with national and international partners to find him.
Mr. Wilson, 30, is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl at a hotel in Austin on Aug. 15 and paying her $500 in cash, according to an affidavit filed in Travis County. The girl told the police that she had met Mr. Wilson through the website SugarDaddyMeet.com, where he was using the screen name “Sanjuro,” the affidavit says.

Commander Officer said detectives who had interviewed the girl said that “if someone mistakes her age, it would be because they think she’s younger, not older.

According to the affidavit, Mr. Wilson and the girl met in the parking lot of an Austin coffee shop that evening and left for the hotel in a black Ford Edge sport utility vehicle registered to Mr. Wilson’s company, Defense Distributed. The police were notified of the alleged assault after the girl told a counselor, and they confirmed the details using surveillance video and interviews.

And why am I not surprised that you're a Cody Wilson fan. ;)

He better not get caught diddling a teenager in Taiwan. That's one on the long list of crimes eligible for capital punishment.

The metoo movement has been weaponized. Wilson is most probably they're latest target.

Nothing says "I'm not guilty" like fleeing the country. How do you explain away the video surveillance of their rendezvous and the technical evidence on the girl's phone and computer, F. Lee Bailey?

Innocent until proven guilty. Right?

In a court of law, sure. In the court of public opinion, generally no. On social media, absolutely not.

That's the whole objective of the metoo weapon. It's a weapon used to destroy people's lives, not catch actual criminals.

Awwww did it just ruin your plans for the weekend?

What does substantiated child sexual abuse have to do with #metoo as a weapon? You really want to make this political?

Have you no shame?

What has been substantiated? There's been a trial, already?

Yes, the accusations have been legally substantiated. That's why he's been indicted, entered into national law enforcement databases, and will soon be subject to an extradition request. The legal system doesn't take those steps for unsubstantiated allegations. The charges haven't been legally proven. That's the distinction you're looking for.

An indictment isn't a conviction.

This doesn’t have anything to do with metoo. It is a good old fashioned police investigation like we had before social media.

Did anything in my post suggest that I thought an indictment equaled a conviction? In fact, I tried to distinguish the terms for you. Legally substantiated means that the charge is strongly supported by known facts and evidence (without respect to exculpatory evidence or explanations that a defense might present at trial or during pre-trial proceedings). It's a lower bar than legally proven, which means that a charge has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt (>95% certainty) in spite of whatever rebuttals a defense might present.

From the interviews I've seen Wilson is a prick and comes off as someone who could do this. If he did I hope he answers for it one day. But this sex with a minor issue has no impact on his right to publish plans for a 3D gun.

Convicted felons' rights are severely curtailed. If he's convicted, I highly doubt he'll legally be able to have much to do with firearms anytime in the near future.

Funny how that all worked out, eh?
