Sesame Workshop says Bert and Ernie are 'best friends' and not gay

Oh sure.

What about that so-called "Oscar the Grouch" and his "Would you like a cookie little girl." line?

Are you telling me that that isn't promoting petofilliah?

Go on, show me a single person in the Bible named either "Bert" or "Ernie" and I'll believe that the whole so-called "Sesame Street" (did you notice that Aladdin used 'Open Sesame' when he worked **M*A*G*I*C** [which is the Devil's tool] ???????????????) isn't a Muslim Atheist Commie plot to deny Christ and doom all men to eternal damnation.

Thank you for the true LOL. :)

EDIT: You forgot Obama. There's no such thing as an evil Muslim plot that doesn't involve Obama. Everyone knows that.

There is a more general outrage. Because what once was suppose to be television shows, movies and sports which people turned to for entertainment and fun to temporarily escape daily stress of life, has now been injected with social politics being rammed down everyone's throats.

“Gay people exist” is only social politics to bigots. The rest of us don’t care.

I do have to admit that I've sometimes run into situations where sort of similar lack of detail has caused slight problems.

Probably the most clear cut one was when I described a person that I had just been talking to as "tall" (they were well over 6' tall and I'm not even close) and while pointing in their general direction. The person that I was then talking to couldn't work out who I was referring to, until I realized that the person that I was referring to had a VERY significantly higher skin melanin content than the average for the group I was with. For some obscure reason, it simply hadn't occurred to me to use skin color as an identifier which, of course, wasn't the "social norm" for the group I was then with.

I've probably had more interactions with "gays" than I realize (as too, most probably, has everyone else) but my favourite one is when I met one of my personnel who had been newly promoted and invited him and his lady friend to "wet down" his new rank with a beer. The closest oasis was actually quite nice, clean, quiet, and the patrons well dressed. Everything went well until the newly promoted came back from using the washroom and flatly declared that we had to leave "NOW!". Neither I nor his lady friend were in any rush to leave so we tried to find out why we had to leave "NOW!". After much prodding it turned out that he had "coldcocked" someone in the washroom because that someone had grabbed his ass. It was at that point that it finally dawned on me that we were in a "gay bar". He still wanted to leave "NOW!" and we didn't so the discussion continued for a couple of minutes until the fellow at the next table turned to him and said "I wouldn't worry about it. I would have done exactly the same thing. It was just RUDE!". Suddenly a little light bulb seemed to turn on and the newly promoted realized that "gays were people too".

Nothing new

Jerry Falwell believed on of the Teletubbies was gay.

The Bert and Ernie thing has been something that first came out of the closet about 4 year ago

Whole thing is blown out of proportion.
Are we as a society will look at Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as gay ?
Classic Abbott and Costello ?
Seeing male friends together outside eating lunch at their favorite cafe...oh look here. Not to sidetrack this thread but I am not going to stop speaking to my male friends cause someone will say we're gay. Nor I'm not going to have anyone saying to my nephews watching these characters will promote homosexuality.
Have to go...the Three Stooges are on.

I always thought Bert and Ernie were father and son.

I am personally sick and tired of people overly sexualizing our cartoons. This is a kids show for goodness sakes.

There’s no way a gay man would be caught dead wearing either one of those hideous turtleneck sweaters.

I don't care whether Bert and Ernie are gay or straight, but I wish that little kids could just be little kids without sexualizing everything.

Watch it. Two is "normal" but three is "kinky".

There is some research that appears to indicate that more harm is done to children who are "improperly touched" by the inflated reaction of parents/society than by the actual incident itself. I wish I could recall where I found that information, but I can't.

From the BBC

Sesame Workshop says Bert and Ernie are 'best friends' and not gay

The organisation behind Sesame Street has denied co-habiting duo, Bert and Ernie, are gay, following comments by one of the show's writers.

Mark Saltzman said his writing about the room-mating couple was based on his relationship with film editor Arnold Glassman.

Sesame Workshop then issued a statement saying the pair "do not have a sexual orientation".

Bert and Ernie may look human, but the pair "remain puppets", it said.

COMMENT:-

Some "news" is more earth shakingly relevant than others.

Besides, would they admit it if Bert and Ernie WERE "gay" and risk losing the chance or poisoning the minds of millions of innocent children in furtherance of "The Gay Conspiracy"?

Why would there have been, then or now, some ulterior motive?

When creating educational scripts for kids, a couple of buddies living together is not something that needs to be examined in depth. It was a familiar background for a scenario to teach kids...friends being together. At that age, kids would LOVE to live with their best friends.

I wonder when we're going to start examining the inter-species relationship of Kermit and Miss Piggy?

Why would there have been, then or now, some ulterior motive?

The "ulterior motive" could possibly be on the part of those who raised the question in the first place.

I think it's like a snowstorm in a box. They are puppets. They do not have human body parts. The 4 year olds watching do not even know what gender preference means, for Pete's sake. Just leave the muppets alone, people.

The whole debate is retarded - as is the Left-wing pile-on against voice artist and puppeteer Frank Oz:
(Frank Oz did the voices of Bert, Grover, and Cookie Monster on Sesame Street. He also did the voice of Yoda in Star Wars.)

The whole debate is retarded

While I personally agree with you, there appears to be a significant number of people who feel that it is almost overriding national importance to determine what the sexual preferences of a couple of "sock puppets" (who aren't even elected politicians) are.

To quote Mr. Trump - "Sad."
