Three Republican senators weigh in on delaying Kavanaugh vote

I must say I agree with these Senators, there has to be an investigation, the job is too important, and he would be
on the court for decades, we should at least get to the bottom of this.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/16/politics/jeff-flake-bob-corker-brett-kavanaugh/index.html

Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker both say the Senate Judiciary Committee should not vote on Kavanaugh's nomination until they talk to his accuser, and Sen. Lisa Murkowski said the committee might have to consider delaying the vote, according to reporting by CNN and other news organizations.

This whole thing is so obvious, it's laughable. What is there to investigate exactly? The bottom of what? If true, (and that's a big if) a teen (probably drunk) at a party tries to make out with another (probably drunk) teen at the party, over 30 years ago. BFD.

Gotta give it to the Dems though, good timing and the right social issue to use for their last ditch effort.

The fact that Feinstein has been sitting on this letter for a couple of months is enough to make me roll my eyes at the whole thing.

Agreed in principle. This needs to be investigated to determine veracity of the charges. If it’s proven true Kavanaugh should have his nomination pulled. If it’s proven to be folderol, than the vote should proceed forward. If one objects to the judge, vote NO.

But how do you 'prove' it to be true though? Answer: you cant. This woman needs to come forward with some very specific details iike, whose house was this party at? How did she get there? Did she know Brett Kavanaugh before hand? If so, how? If not , how does she know her attacker is Kavenaugh? There are a million questions, but I see no reason why the senate shouldnt at least hear the woman out before voting.

Why did Senator Feinstein not make this letter public months ago?

Answer me this. How did Grassley get a counter claim from a whole bunch of women saying he didn't do that to them when they were in high school together and was able to release it within 24 hours? Those people scattered, and gotten married, and had name changes. That means Grassley had that information before it was announced, long enough time before to be able to get a counter letter. The counter letter is like having a bunch of men give testimonials to Jeffery Dalhmer because he didn't eat them.

Re: Three Republican senators weigh in on delaying Kavanaugh vote

I do not think Republicans have much of a choice now. If they decide to attack the accuser and force the vote then it will be problematic, and confirm for many Independents what Republicans really stand for in this modern era of dealing with this sort of nonsense from Hollywood to the Corporate America to the political spectrum.

I would not be surprised if Republicans are looking at alternatives to Kavanaugh just to ensure a nomination and vote before the midterms, and time is starting to run out.

Agreed

Wait...because Kaanaugh didn't try to rape EVERY woman then he didn't try to rape ONE?

Let's get letters from ever person that Jefferey Dahmer didn't eat stating that he was a great guy...

Yup!

I would like to hear her side.

Why did Senator Feinstein not make this letter public months ago?

Because the victim wanted it to remain anonymous. But I believe your question was rhetorical?

Well, they are reporting today that she has passed a polygraph and supposedly there were other people around and she has come forward.

She has done exactly what the "grab her on the *****" crowd said she should do if her story has any credibility. Now, they will find another way to weasel out of the issue before us in defense of their chosen one.

Can't wait to see this play out. The ***** grabbers are still saying their voting on him Thursday. Character, integrity, be damned. Simply deplorable.

The BFD is a nominee to the Supreme Court may have lied about it by denying it, and has lied to congress before.* Wasn't that the "BFD" with Bill Clinton? Not the actual blow job but lying about it? And if a president can be impeached over lying shouldn't the same standard be applied to a SCJ nominee? Don't we have enough liars in politics, do we need one in the SCOTUS too?

That’s not the argument though. Kavanaugh is saying it didn’t happen. Do you believe he’s lying?

If he had come forward and said this is what happened at the time, I would agree.

But if true he has lied about this event. He has lied to everyone, so none of this testimony in the hearings is trustworthy, and he is not fit to be SC Justice. QED.

Digging up dirt on a SCOTUS nominee from 30-40 years ago, things that happened in the crib seems to becoming the norm. This was in High School if I understand it right, if it happened at all. A he said, she said with no way to prove it either way. I just shrug at this kind of thing.

That isn't what interests me, how Republicans vote or those who are retiring vote. I'm more interested to see how Tester, Montana, Heitkamp, North Dakota, Donnelly, Indiana, McCaskill, Missouri and Manchin, West Virginia vote. That is if the vote occurs before the midterms. All are Democratic senators from deep red states up for reelection this year. All are in very tight battles. A no vote could doom their chances for reelection.

This is totally being ignored in favor of Flake, Corker, Collins, and now Murkowski. Keep in mind here, the Democrats have 26 senators up for reelection this midterm vs. 9 for the GOP. Big odds favor the Republicans as keeping the senate under their control even if they lose the House. Losing the House now seems very likely.

Perhaps the democrats should ask themselves if defeating Kavanaugh worth losing 3-5 seats only to have Trump possibly nominate a further rightist judge next year who could make Kavanaugh look like a flaming liberal.

Also remember Florida, Nelson also joins the five I mentioned in the pure tossup column at the moment. That's six currently held Democratic senate seats that could go Republican against three Republican held seats that could go Democratic, Arizona, Nevada and Tennessee.

Drunk wouldn't excuse it, if it did in fact go down the way she said it did.

An email was sent. Multiple people who signed the letter attest that they were asked literally that night over email.

On the point of the accusation, it is impossible to prove it happened or to prove that it didn't happen.

No it doesn't. Let Congress vote. A 30 year old teen issue at best. Several outright lies at worst, Nothing to see here.

If this Trump hating liberal activist from a school several miles away has some evidence, bring it on. Anonymous letters don't count.

Lady Di sat on this for months. Now it becomes important. Last week it was some anonymous opinion piece. Next week it will be something else.

Yep she should be there this week and testify.
Feinstien should be held in contempt of congress for not reporting a possible crime.
however this smells like stink though.

I love how there are always these last minute women from 30-40 years ago that come out of the wood work.
They obviously didn't feel that there was an issue all the way back then.

Need to check her bank account and see how much money was deposited.

The fact that he has other women saying that he never acted like that and there are at least 5 of them
that knew him in high school at that point in time should negate this.

I see no reason to not go forward.
I would give this women 1 chance to testify before congress.
if she refuses then well go forward.

That's the nature of rape or molestation charges. Too easy to make something up. And what happens when the accusation is found false? Generally nothing. Rolling Stone is still publishing. The accuser still walks among us. Several years later the Duke accuser is still turning tricks.

They STILL would have had to have tracked these people down, sent the email, and gotten a response back, immediately. That didn't happen in a mere 24 hours, no matter what you said. YOu are not following the point. The point is.. Grassley knew about the accusation long before it was released to the public.

Other than i say so what evidence does she have?
does she have pictures, or anything that supports herself?

nope.

so it is he said she said.
we have at least 5 or 6 women that knew him in high school
that have said he never acted that way at all or treated women that way.

so if you want to go with he/she said. then that is about 5 or 6 women that she
she isn't telling the truth.

In a nutshell, unless she has a poloroid of Kavanaugh's crotch, thanks for the mud slinging.
