Spanish-speaking worker refused English-speaking customers

A Spanish-speaking Taco Bell worker in Florida has been fired after video showed her refusing to serve some English-speaking customers.

Taco Bell Corp. told the Miami Herald Friday that a female employee seen in the viral video shot at a Hialeah store no longer works for the brand.

Alexandria Montgomery posted a Facebook video Thursday of her experience Wednesday night. The video shows Montgomery repeatedly trying to order as the drive-thru worker insists in Spanish that she doesn't understand English and asks Montgomery to move her vehicle for other customers. Montgomery asks why she can't just list the items as written on the menu. The worker responds, "No comprendo."

COMMENT:-

Is this worse than a situation where the worker refuses to serve a person who doesn't speak English? If so, why? If not, why not?

Personally I think that it's pretty crappy management not to insure that there was AT LEAST one person who spoke English on duty while the restaurant was open.

I'm not a "speak English" guy and I don't favor forcing English and only English on people. However, I think that anyone who doesn't speak English is going to have a tough time succeeding in the United States. So you don't learn English at your own peril.

Now I don't particularly care if you want your Taco Bell franchise, which is your business, to be Spanish only. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to sell to English speakers in a country where English is the predominant language, but whatever. It's a free country.

So basically, whatever. It's your business, it's your life. Good on you for making less money I guess.
