Kansas woman told birth certificate wasn’t enough to prove citizenship for passport

An electric bill confirming her address would also most likely be ok as a secondary form of id. I'm telling you this isn't that unusual other than the fact that maybe she wasn't born in a hospital. I'm telling you this is all because of illegal immigrants stealing social security numbers.

Not in place of of a B C

Solution is really simple, create a national ID system that is tamper proof and free.

Not in place of of a B C
Its a column 1, and column 2 process
You need something from both
Electric bill does not replace a BC
A BC don't replace a driver's license or gov issued Id. The I'd also must have that dumb gold star or it dont qualify.
If your smart you get both a state id/ drivers license and a passport. Even if you never plan on driving or traveling. It saves you lots of headaches

But of course the issue is that they were not accepting BC - so something like an electric bill would confirm address but not citizenship or place of birth. They are not remotely similar.

Barbara had been issued a U.S. passport before, but this time around, Barbara was told her birth certificate wasn’t good enough to prove her citizenship.

“It’s like they’re retroactively declaring that I was never a citizen,” Barbara said.

Should be easy. Born in this country, you're a citizen. That's how the law works. Thoughts?
Strange, I've been issued a passport before, when it expires all I do is turn in the old one, no birth certificate required to renew.

Socials arent proof of citizenship, never have been

A passport requires form ds11, a valid birth cert and a govt issued photo Id. If her birth cert was valid then there wouldnt have been a problem. Lets see her cert.

It was valid...she had a previous passport and this was a renewal...so that means her secondary was her former passport.

This kind of nonsense needs to stop

Religion should be "don't ask don't tell."

Keep it in the closet if you are so disposed.

I believe it was Bette Davis who stated " Religion is a lot like a penis. It's fine if you have one, just don't pull it out and wave it in front of my face."

One post in... TRUMP!!

Yeah, you've elected that big of an idiot. When your POTUS has the cognitive and emotional abilities of a ten year old, this kind of stuff fits that pattern, and humans are pattern seeking creatures..

I didn't elect, nor did I vote for, Trump...

I need Clara to weigh in on if that's the context she meant it in.

I already did. Post 36

But you were wrong... socials are not social security numbers... social security numbers are social security numbers. Socials are social events were people gather to enjoy each others company.

In Texas people refer to them as socials, get off of your nonsense...just like a Trumper

If it was valid and she followed the instructions then someone needs to be fired. This reminds me of going to the registry. You can be rejected here in Ma, walk into another one right after and be accepted with the same paperwork.

I'm sure it will all work out fine as long as she doesn't have to use a public restroom.

A birth certificate proves you are a citizen of the USA. This is what proponents of ID requirements really wanted in the first place - to be able to question everybody.

That's what I was wondering.

The article never said that.

It indicated that the birth certificate portion was being questioned because it had been done by a midwife. She was asked if she had church records or family Bible .

Seems like much ado about nothing. Her birth certificate was not at the level of security needed for a passport because it did not come from a trusted issuing source. The letter from the federal government states, "The letter stated, because her birth certificate was not issued at a institution or hospital, it was not considered proof enough of her citizenship."

Really nothing here except false outrage.

The time to fix the authenticity of the birth certificate is when it was created. YMMV

One can speculate that the extra scrutiny that her birth certificate received is the result of the exploding industry of creating counterfeit birth certificates to our newest residents. Birth certificates are so easy to counterfeit they really have no value without a documented history of existence.
