Obama gives 'State of our Democracy' speech

It was startling to hear what a leader and president sounded like again...and coming on the heels of a week of McCain normalcy, it was disorienting to remember what reality use to be like.

I liked his speech. As always, inclusive, not divisive, not angry, not "sky is falling" drama. Reason and truth? Yes please. Cautious optimism instead of lies and bluster and barely intelligible words strung together like stream of consciousness? Breath of fresh air. A president that didn't have to beg like a baby for his supporters to save him from impeachment.

Republicans are adrift with no one new to blame for all their woes. Cannibals at this point...Jeff Sessions the enemy! The press that gives Trump all his coverage. His former staff. The truth. His current staff. His own supporters to be blamed if Trump is impeached.

Sad that it's up to Democrats to usher in sanity. It would be nice to have bi-partisanship and reasonable negotiations to include conservative and liberal and libertarian and green party ideals, instead of the finger-in-the-ears of the current Republican party. Instead we'll have to settle for feat or famine, thanks right wing media.

One can't expect a Presidential candidate who had no clue as to what the nuclear triad is to understand much of anything,especially anything to do with the military and/or national security.

This is a developing story in that it's still being written up, but his speech ended a little while ago. There are things he said in there that are really on the spot. If I may chime in, watched some this morning my personal thoughts.

1) Trump is a Train wreck... period... but hes on rails and hes moving......Hes staying in his lane. I voted for a person that had policies that I agreed with and would support and maintain the constitution. Ive read the POTUS Job description recently more times than I can imagine. (Potus is the head of the Executive branch, appoints Federal seats. enforces existing laws and proposes laws to congress. He is the Commander in chief in which the security of our nations to include borders and citizens is his responsibility) All of which he seems to comply within the mandates of the constitution.

2) I did not Vote for a eloquent speaker and a even keel individual. Because that is NOT a criteria of President. No where in his Job description states, that he must speak and the behest of his opponents and detractors. No where in his job description is that he must maintain political correctness. I voted for a person that gets the JOB done.

3) Trump is a scumbag... he tweets too much and needs to STFU sometimes.... But his actions in policies and enforcement out way weigh his twitter account.

4) 2016 Elections were even tougher because we were dealt 2 Crappy cards. ( for my political beliefs. a candidate that I had no Idea what her beliefs and focus was for the American People. And a loud mouth immoral scumbag. BUT funny I understood his policies and what he would DO for ME. that is his Job anyways a public servant to serve and protect my needs. HRC didnt care...) those where the 2 choice......( I could have voted independent as well, but again... Its not a popularity contest. Its a policy contest and fulfilling the JOB)

5) Sure there are some inherent off the record off the constitution manners. That should be followed and Trump is no where near it... BUT for the first time.... I feel a leader is speaking to me... NOT above me... Hes a billionaire yet He seems to reach the base and the people that need the support of his leadership regardless how crappy he may carry himself and twitter us to death.


closing point.. POTUS is not "American Idol" you dont just get the best looking, We should be looking for someone thats WILLING to do the JOB no matter HOW hard it really is.

I am unsure what his purpose is anymore.

Is he helping Democrats get elected? He didn't really do a good job of keeping the DNC afloat when he was president.

The Democratic party is in shambles. Considering the retirement wing of the party - Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and John Kerry are considered front-runners for 2020 is telling.

Imagine if the Cleveland Browns starting bringing in Marv Levy or Dick Vermeil for coaching interviews. WTF???

The Democratic party has devolved in the party of resistance. Refusing to hear Supreme Court nominees, resisting any policy or bill supported or endorsed by President Trump. Not a party of any principles, but cheap stunts and scorched earth vengence.
