US Mexico reach trade deal

It's beyond eye rolling that our liberal friends are saying whatever they can to minimize this excellent news.

We aren't the ones in desperate need of a positive spin.

There is a World-Wide Trade War.

Yep; and Trudeau is asking his followers to join him in a prayer:

“Please Allah, let President Trump forgive me for dissing him after the G7 meeting.
I really didn’t know who I was dealing with.
Please soften his heart so we can make a trade deal and that I might be reelected.”

I'm really liking some of the specifics.

The deal also would require 40 percent to 45 percent of auto content to be made by workers earning at least $16 per hour, the second official said.

I live in the rust belt(Pa) and our manufacturing jobs were decimated with NAFTA as dozens of area manufactures left for the cheaper labor of Mexico. Our biggest hit was Werner Ladder which completely crushed the area when they left.

Well you do have Stormy and PUTIINN to whine about.

For the grown ups, we care about the US economy and good paying jobs for our fellow Americans. You know, real issues.

After this trade deal, I believe momentum will be built and other countries will follow suite as they can see a reasonable deal can be had and they don't want to lose out on trading with the largest economy in the World.

Yes, this is extremely positive news. Even for the many here who argued there were no winners in trade wars.

The markets have certainly shown a positive reaction. There are some big wins for farmers, manufacturers in textiles and auto parts. Auto parts stocks soared today.

The Atlanta Fed said a couple of days ago the U.S. economy is growing at a 4.6 percent annualized rate in the third quarter.

It was reported this afternoon that overnight China stopped devaluing its currency. The talking heads see this as a good sign that China is moving toward negotiations on trade.

Yes, but no. From what I gathered It was a preliminary agreement of principle in one area of NAFTA. So...not big news.

Sour Grapes.

We'll see who it is that ends up crying there.

And guess who it is that will be making up the difference for that higher labor cost? The American consumer of course.

Which in turn will allow the increase of minimum wages. Or did you think globalism had nothing to do with that...

I don't think you understand. If there is a cap on the minimum companies can pay labor and it's $16/hour, fewer companies will move their production to another country. Those that have moved might come back.

Currently the average hourly manufacturing wage in Mexico is $2.30/hour.

Wages in Manufacturing in Mexico increased to 2.30 USD/Hour in June from 2.20 USD/Hour in May of 2018.

Where? In Mexico? This isn't globalism. This essentially amounts to protectionism.

Did we trade presidents?

Apparently, Trump never took calculus. If you keep dividing the distance between you and the wall you never actually get to the other side.

An engineer who liked a woman enough to want to marry her kept dividing the distance between him and her. When people laughed at him, he replied "It's not what you think. I can get close enough for all practical purposes".

So if he doesn't make things worse and it's actually a better deal.... will you be praising Trump?

If it's a better deal for US companies and consumers, yes. Well, I'll give his admin credit.

This is multi-faceted stuff, I'm sure there will be pros and cons that we'll have to weigh in deciding if it's "better". NAFTA was/is good for some people, but it was very bad for others.

Here's a little more in depth info on the actual current state of negotiations.

Will Trump send out a "Sleep well American workers" tweet?

You call up 1% "very positive"? The bar is getting set pretty low nowadays.

"up" is good no matter how much.

Lemme guess...you're like Bill Maher and wish the economy would tank just so it makes Trump look bad?

There is a World-Wide Trade War.

I believe you said it was a "Racist" Trade war a couple days ago (part of Trump's "Global Race War" :lamo ).

Like how we minimized the NK denuclearization news? Yeah, who in their right mind would look at any Trump 'deals' with a skeptical eye?

Uh huh.

I'm sure you'll use the fact that some fat boy in N Korea broke his promise as proof that anything Trump does should be questioned.

Of course he broke his promise. He always does. Almost everyone said he would. But Trump is gullible enough to believe anything so long as he is showered with praise.

It is protectionism. Nationalism. Is there something wrong with that?

And now #45 gives in to 325 Million Americans, especially his staff under seize, form who we Really need!

We’re seeing it, 💯 Million Eisenhower’s rising up, and We The People will rebuild dozens of necessary Infrastructure Grids.

I know some want to focus on Stormy and PUTIIIIN!!! but for those of us concerned about important things that affect our day to day lives, Trump has negotiated a new trade deal with Mexico.

Press conference right now.

Trump announces trade agreement between US and Mexico that could overhaul NAFTA | Fox News
Trump also announced a few months ago that he had a deal with North Korea. How is that deal going?

Once again, an announcement that is bigger than the actual agreement. Some were predicting that Trump would negotiate some meaningless changes, declare victory, and go home. That prediction is looking fairly good right now.

Yes. Foreign markets are our income. We are income to foreigners. When each slow trade we both have lower income.
